Just how lucky was he, really? He could not be happier.
Of all the places you could be reincarnated, the Warhammer universe would certainly be in the top three destinations desired by sci-fi fans.
If you were to ask the fan community if they would like to be reincarnated in this universe, they would certainly say yes, wouldn't they?
It's truly a blessed opportunity.
Setting irony aside, he'd be lying if he said what he saw didn't impress and inspire him.
This military parade was truly majestic. The seemingly endless tide of the Imperial Army in all its glory.
As the various war machines and units paraded among the enthusiastic crowd, he began to take his situation more seriously, as his survival depended on it.
Jokes aside, he could say he was incredibly lucky, given that he had one of the best possible starts in life. After all, there were no good options in this universe, so his position was one of the better ones.
He was born into a noble family on Terra. His family's exact rank was still to be determined, but judging by the vastness and luxury of his habitation, he guessed it was pretty high.
His future looked promising. Admittedly, his life would be filled with intrigue, plots, assassination and betrayal. Nevertheless, compared to the lives of other citizens of the Imperium, he would choose his own starting point every time.
However, there was some bad news: he was now fairly certain that the events leading to his birth meant that he was a psyker.
He was a being with psychic powers capable of performing supernatural feats.
Although this sounded incredible, it was a double-edged sword. More often than not, it would get you killed, since Psykers were hunted because of the danger they posed to society.
He reflected on what he knew about his new identity and the potential power he could harness.
In the Warhammer 40,000 universe, a psyker is an individual of any intelligent species who possesses some degree of psychic ability.
All psykers draw their powers from the extradimensional realm of psychic energy known as the Immaterium, or the 'Warp'. This realm underlies and penetrates four-dimensional realspace, and is the source of all psychic energy in the universe.
Psykers are sometimes referred to as 'witches' within the Imperium of Man and among the Aeldari, particularly if they disregard the potential dangers their abilities pose to others or exploit them to further the agenda of the Chaos Gods.
Put simply, he would either have to live a life of perpetual secrecy and constant paranoia, hiding his powers forever, or risk being discovered and enslaved until his death.
At least he now knew what those visions and the light were all about. They were the manifestations of the forces of the Chaos God and the Emperor of Mankind, forever illuminating the darkness of the Warp and serving as a beacon of hope for humanity.
Even now, he could feel the Emperor's psychic light shining upon him. Although he had never been religious, he could not help but feel a deep sense of reverence and respect for this godlike figure, knowing that he was real.
Just how powerful was the Emperor of Mankind, really? He could sense his own psychic energy growing stronger in response to the Emperor's light. It was truly awe-inspiring.
The reality of this universe was certainly tragic. As the famous saying goes, in this grim and dark future, there is only war.
Despite knowing about all the threats and dangers he would face from that moment on, he could not help but feel his blood pumping through his veins and adrenaline surging through his body, even though he had never experienced violence in his life.
Now, he could wield the power he had dreamed about as a teenager. Everything was real. Whatever the future might hold, it would not be as peaceful as his previous life had been, and he was excited by that prospect.
By the time the day was over, the parade was still in progress and would continue for several more days. Every day, he was taken to the balcony to cheer on the guardians of the imperial peace.
He knew that it was important for his family to be seen to be supporting the imperial army — no noble could afford rumours suggesting otherwise.
Although it was exciting and novel at first, he soon refocused with renewed determination on what he had been doing before, given his newfound understanding of how critical it could be. He resumed training his psychic strength — a mental shield — which was effectively his first supernatural power.
This shield could protect him from daemonic entities in the Warp and the substantial risk of possession.
This was of the utmost importance to his survival, as either the daemonic entities or the Inquisition of the Imperium would kill him if he was too weak.
So days passed in a routine of constant psychic tempering.
During those months of training, he experimented with expanding the scope of his powers and achieved various results.
His reincarnation experience had shaped his powers as a psyker more than he had realised.
He realised that his soul had traversed the Immaterium to be reborn on Terra, guided by the Emperor's light.
During his travels, his psychic powers had evolved as a survival mechanism, rendering him more attuned to certain psychic disciplines than others.
These were biomancy, telekinesis, and telepathy.
His affinity for biomancy developed during his transition from an immaterial soul to a living human being in his new mother's womb.
His affinity for telekinesis and telepathy developed during his time in the Immaterium.
He deduced that he had used telekinesis to travel and move his soul around in the Warp and that he had used telepathy to create his psychic shield.
As for the disciplines of Divination and Pyromancy, he currently felt little to no affinity with either of them.
He suspected that the visions that had plagued him had probably scarred his mind, causing him to shut himself off from the unknown future.
This made him reluctant to engage with Divination for the time being.
He also felt that the Emperor's scorching psychic light in the Immaterium, which had almost burned him to death, had contributed to his reluctance to engage with fire.
Overall, when he asked himself if he was lucky, the answer was clear. The only answer in his heart was yes.
