Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Wangsheng Funeral Parlor and Copywriting

The Wangsheng Funeral Parlor in Liyue is located in the southern part of Feiyun Slope in Liyue Harbor, not too far from Wanmin Restaurant in Chihu Rock.

During his casual chat with Zhongli, the two of them arrived at the entrance of the funeral parlor.

A ferryman dressed in a long robe, who had been sitting on a bench by the door, immediately stood up: "Mr. Zhongli, you're back. And this is...?"

"This is Bai Mojing. He wanted to ask if the director is still hiring."

"What a coincidence—Director Hu just stepped out. Seems like she went to find Miss Xinyan."

"Are there any spare rooms in the parlor where Bai can stay for the night?"

"Of course, no problem!" The ferryman agreed with a smile. "As long as you don't mind, we have plenty of guest rooms here at Wangsheng Funeral Parlor."

"Any shelter from the wind and rain is more than enough. How could I mind? As for the name 'Wangsheng Funeral Parlor,' I've heard a bit about it. But in my view, everyone is destined to die—it's just a matter of time."

"Ahahaha! Well said, well said! You've got a refreshing outlook, young man. Come with me, then—I'll show you to a guest room to settle in."

"Thank you for your trouble, uncle. May I ask your name?"

"Ah, just call me Old Hei. Though I do have a colleague on the day shift who shares your surname!"

"What a coincidence indeed!"

Old Hei and Old Bai?

After bidding Zhongli farewell, Bai Mojing settled in temporarily at the funeral parlor under Old Hei's arrangements.

The room was elegantly furnished in an antique style, quite similar to the traditional rooms Bai Mojing had seen in Donghuang gardens.

Sitting on a chair in the room, Bai Mojing began to ponder how he could earn Mora in this world.

Currently, the "Ultimate Gourmet Hunter System" allowed him to stay in this world for seven days. After that, he would have to wait for the next activation.

Of course, the flow of time between the two worlds was different. Thanks to the system's power, less than a second would pass in either world.

Thus, Bai Mojing started considering whether he could bring some modern items from his world to sell here, essentially becoming a cross-world merchant.

However, while Liyue bore some resemblance to ancient Donghuang, there were still some differences in specifics. He couldn't just bring over modern electronics, could he?

After all, his system wasn't about opening an internet café in Teyvat. Never mind whether it could pass the scrutiny of the Geo Archon—the bigger issue was that there might not even be an internet function here!

Aside from modern electronics, what else could he sell? Glass beads? No, Liyue already had plenty of those.

Sweet potatoes, potatoes, corn? This world had those too.

"Barefoot Doctor's Manual," "Versatile Talent Handbook for Military and Civilian Use," "Militia Military Training Manual," "Militia Cadre Handbook"—was he planning to rebel against the Geo Archon? That might just earn him a meteorite to the head.

Books?

Come to think of it, Liyue did have a tradition of novel-writing.

Across the sea in Inazuma, light novels seemed to be quite popular.

And wasn't the second young master of the Feiyun Commerce Guild in Liyue Harbor serializing a novel called "Chronicles of the Falling Leaves and the Sword" or something?

Perhaps he could try his hand at being a literary copycat?

"Battle Through the Heavens," "Ghost Blows Out the Light," "The Legend of the Condor Heroes," "A Record of a Mortal's Journey to Immortality," "Jade Dynasty"—there were so many novels he could "borrow" from!

This seemed like a promising avenue!

With this thought, Bai Mojing couldn't hold back any longer. He immediately pulled out paper and pen and began writing:

"Heaven and earth are unkind, treating all beings as straw dogs!" (This story is set in another world. Any similarities are purely coincidental. Do not take it seriously.)

"Originally, there were no gods or immortals in this world. But since ancient times, humans have witnessed countless wonders—lightning and thunder, natural disasters, and man-made calamities, with countless casualties and suffering beyond mortal power to prevent or resist.

Thus, they came to believe that above the nine heavens, there existed all manner of divine beings, and below the nine netherworlds lay the realm of departed souls—the halls of Yama."

"In the present age, the righteous path flourishes, while demons and evil spirits retreat. The heartland is blessed with majestic mountains and rivers, thriving populations, and abundant resources, firmly held by the orthodox sects. Among them, the three great pillars—Qingyun Sect, Tianyin Temple, and Fenxiang Valley—stand as leaders.

This story begins with the Qingyun Sect."

After careful consideration, Bai Mojing ultimately decided to use "Jade Dynasty" as his first novel to test the waters in this world.

However, the lore and system of "Jade Dynasty" differed somewhat from Teyvat's setting, so some modifications were necessary to align with the local context.

Hence, the opening line clarifying the fictional nature of the story.

"Jade Dynasty" consisted of eight volumes, totaling 1.2 million characters.

Bai Mojing worked through the night, channeling all his energy into adapting the first volume.

By dawn, he had successfully rewritten the first volume, spanning 150,000 characters.

This volume covered everything from Zhang Xiaofan's tragedy at Caomiao Village and the Seven Peaks Tournament to his encounter with the demonic sect's enchantress Bi Yao in the Ancient Cave of Ten Thousand Bats, where they both learned the "Love-Struck Curse."

As Bai Mojing finished revising the plot from memory and polishing the content, daylight had already broken outside his room.

The process of "copywriting" had been surprisingly enjoyable.

But when he stretched and took another look at the novel he'd written, his smile froze.

Wait—didn't Liyue use a script different from modern Chinese characters? While it resembled Donghuang's small seal script, it was still quite far removed from modern simplified Chinese.

So, he'd actually need to find someone to translate his modern Chinese into Liyue's script?

"Guess I'll just have to pick a lucky volunteer at random~"
