There was something different about me this morning. I couldn't put my finger on it exactly, but when I looked at my reflection in the mirror, I saw a woman who had been thoroughly claimed. My neck bore Landon's temporary mark, my lips were slightly swollen from his rough kisses, and there was a glow to my skin that hadn't been there before.
I traced the scar on my cheek absently. For the first time in years, I barely noticed it. Landon had made me feel beautiful last night, desired—like I was worth something beyond the jagged reminders of my past.
"Don't get too comfortable," I whispered to my reflection. "Nothing good ever lasts."
The bite mark throbbed, as if responding to my negative thoughts. I knew I needed to tell Landon about my missing wolf soon, but the thought of his rejection made my stomach clench. I'd grown to crave his touch, his presence... the way he looked at me like I was something precious.
