I stared at my phone, my thumb hovering over the call button. Three days had passed since the nightclub incident, and I still hadn't mustered the courage to face Adrian. I'd called in sick for my Monday tutoring session with Leo, claiming a nasty stomach bug.
It wasn't entirely a lie. Every time I thought about seeing Adrian again, my stomach twisted into knots.
With a deep breath, I finally hit call. Chloe answered on the second ring.
"Please tell me you're not still wallowing," she said instead of hello.
"I'm not wallowing," I protested weakly. "I'm strategizing."
Chloe's laugh echoed through the phone. "Is that what we're calling hiding in your apartment now?"
"I'm not hiding!" The defensiveness in my voice betrayed me. "I just needed time to... process."
"Process what? The fact that your hot boss saw you drunk and put you to bed like a gentleman instead of taking advantage of the situation?"
I winced. "When you put it that way, it sounds ridiculous."
