Lyra looked around the table at the sneering faces of the Moreau family. Her fingers tapped on her phone screen, bringing up the investment portfolio she'd carefully built over the years. The one linked to the ten thousand dollars Mrs. Moreau had loaned her.
"Actually," Lyra said, her voice calm despite the storm of emotions inside her, "I didn't lose the money."
Orla rolled her eyes. "Oh please. What did you do, hide it under your mattress?"
Lyra slid her phone across the table to Mrs. Moreau. "I turned your ten thousand into twenty thousand, Mrs. Moreau."
The older woman's eyes widened as she looked at the screen. "Twenty thousand dollars? How did you manage this, dear?"
"Smart investments," Lyra replied simply. "I've been following the market trends closely."
Mrs. Moreau handed the phone back with a warm smile. "I always knew you were clever, Lyra."
Lachlan frowned, clearly unhappy with this turn of events. "Let me see that."
