"To bind a god, one must first break a world."— Final Glyph of the Pale Arcanum
I. Origin
The object referred to as the Hollow Crown predates the Binding Wars by at least three known centuries. Most records place its creation during the Fracture Era, immediately following the collapse of the Ley-Spine — the great nexus of arcane lines shattered during the final divine incursion.
It was not forged. It was drawn — from a convergence of leylines forcibly redirected and sealed into form.
Its earliest name: Orr Seranthe.Literal translation: "The Last Chain."
It was created not by a single mage, but by a Circle of Seven, one from each arcane discipline, who sought to stop the leyline bleed that threatened to unravel the continent.
They succeeded.
But at a cost.
II. Structure
The Crown is not a traditional object. It is a metaphysical anchor — its pieces are:
Seven fragments, each linked to a leyline channel: Fire, Frost, Shadow, Light, Storm, Earth, and Void.
When worn complete, it doesn't amplify magic. It submits it. Bends it to human will.
It is hollow not in form — but in soul.
It has no sentience. But it remembers. It remembers being forced into shape.
Some whisper the Crown is still bleeding, quietly pulling from every ley-thread it ever touched.
III. Purpose
Originally, the Circle used the Crown to:
Halt the surge of raw magic following the Fracture.
Seal off the primal leylines from divine interference.
Prevent reunification of magic and godblood.
But after the Crown was completed, its function shifted.
The final wearer — Thaleon the Bound — did not remove it. Could not.
He ruled for 19 years with complete magical dominion. Kingdoms fell without a war. Storms stilled at a whisper. Entire forests withered because he willed them not to grow.
When he died — some say by suicide, some say by the Crown's hunger — the fragments were scattered.
Each sealed in a different death-site.Each bound to an oath never to be spoken again.
IV. Risk Profile
Reassembly of the Hollow Crown poses an existential threat to:
All leyline-contingent wards and prisons (including the Vault beneath Iskarra).
Free-willed magic usage.
Shadowcasting and Accord manipulation methods.
If completed and worn again, the Crown will:
Seize control of the continental ley-web.
Subjugate any unprotected mages or bloodlines.
Potentially awaken the Sleeping Thread — a dormant ley-conduit that links all known sites.
(We no longer believe this "Thread" is theoretical. The reactivation at Vaelorin and the Sable Mire confirm it is real — and responding.)
V. Directive
Should any Accord member encounter:
Fragments bearing the original Circle glyphs,
Magic reacting before being cast,
Or echoes of Thaleon's symbol (a closed circle with an eye scratched out) —
They are to initiate Shadowburn Protocol immediately.Recovery is not a priority.Denial is.
"Let none wear it again.Let none unchain the chained."— Last line in Thaleon's tomb, carved from the inside.
