Chapter 3 - second evolution

He was definitely stronger than the average marine but not by much. Now that his lifespan was no longer a mere 20 years, though he didn't know what it was now, he could focus on becoming stronger. Training also increased your level, slowly but it did. So, he spent the next month training, eating rabbits and deer.

He didn't stop, even when his aching muscles screamed at him to stop, he simply continued training, eating, sleeping and repeating. When his strength and endurance reached D-, he knew he had reached the pinnacle of strength back on earth.

He was clothed in carapace armor, since he didn't know how to sew, this was the only way he could dress himself, shiny green carapace which covered his torso, mid section, legs and arms.

For the first time since reincarnation, Hobsa ventured outside of the forest. There was a small village on one side of the island, which he had seen when climbing through the trees of the forest.

He observed the people there. Humans, none of them looked strong but he couldn't assume just based on looks. This was the world of one piece after all. There were about ten fishermen, two on the docks, loading up their catches onto carts and eight out on the sea. He could see a building from which rose smoke, maybe a smithy or something similar?

Children were running around, playing tag or hide and seek.

There was a bakery from which a delicious smell wafted over to him.

Once he realized that there were no warriors as far as he could see, Hobsa approached the village. None of them would be able to pierce his carapace armor, if his estimations were right.

As he walked over, his better than human ears picked up a small girl asking her mother, "why is that man's skin green?"

"I don't know, Anny but he is a freak, you should stay away from him", her mother said.

That was the general consensus of the village. Hobsa was a freak and he should be left alone. His spirit was crushed. He wanted to run back into the forest, when he heard someone shout, "pirates!"

At this, he perked up. He could prove himself useful, killing the pirates! Then these people would accept him, surely! He ran towards the docks and saw a small pirate ship docking there, maybe ten pirates, all with swords. Their Jolly Roger was a skull penetrated by a sword.

"Give us all your money and you will be spared", the captain shouted as he jumped down on the dock, "we are the swordsmen pirates, it is futile to fight, I have a bounty of five million berry! All you have to-"

Hobsa didn't wait for him to finish his thought, rushing at him with his flint knife. The captain raised his sword to block Hobsa's attack.

"You dare attack me, freak? For your insolence, I will take you to be a slave. You are strong and I have never seen someone with green skin before, you must be rare. You will fetch a good price", he slashed at his chest but only left a mark in the carapace.

"Oh you misunderstood the situation", he raised his flint knife again and struck again. He tried blocking again but the blade was coated in armament Haki, shattering the sword on impact, "you aren't the one in control here… I am"

The captain looked at his shattered knife in horror but he didn't have much time to contemplate that, as Hobsa's knife penetrated his throat.

"Shit, he killed the captain!"

"If he beat the captain like that, we don't stand a chance!"

"Set sail, now!"

They tried fleeing but Hobsa jumped on their ship.

"We are ten, let's just rush him", one of the more courageous men called out, rushing at him. The others soon followed. In response, he covered himself head to toe in carapace. These pirates were weak, they couldn't break through his defence, so, he killed one after another, the heart, the eyes, the throat. He didn't even have to use Haki. By the time he was done, the ship had already drifted with the ocean currents towards the open sea. He could go back… or he could set sail… the choice was easy. He changed the flag for a neutral one and began feasting on the pirates.

After he had devoured them all, he looked through their ship. Food stores were full, there was a fully equipped kitchen, a captain's quarters with some money, 500 thousand berry if he counted right, a map of the east blue and a lot of swords. He also found some clothes which fit him.

Looking at the map, he was near Boromi Island in the east blue, just a few days ride away from logue town. That meant he had his next destination. Looking through the newspapers that the crew had, Luffy didn't yet have a bounty but it was the year he set sail, so that meant if he waited in logue town, he could probably meet the strawhats and get recruited.

When he went to sleep that night, there was that voice again, asking if he wanted to evolve. Who would say no?

When he woke up, he was 2.5 meters tall, with bone white skin and two horns on his head. He found clothes that fit him (again) and he opened his status.
