Chapter 1 - I... Who am I?

I woke up, but no one was there. My head was still a little dizzy, and it hurt like someone was hammering a nail into my head. The pain felt like it was killing me. I didn't know how old I was, or who I was. This consciousness, which made me feel like I'd been alive for a long time, seemed to be hiding my own memories from me, afraid I might learn something. I didn't really care, but I had to know where I was. When I tried to get up from where I'd been sleeping, I saw it was a baby's crib. Why was I sleeping in a crib? After all, my consciousness was clear enough to tell me that I was at least bigger than a baby. Still questioning why I was lying in a crib, I reached out and saw two hands I'd never seen before... They were baby hands; why had I become a baby? Without a second thought, I climbed out of the crib, forgetting there would be no space underneath me. Wham! I fell to the ground. Frankly, my hips hurt a little, but the pain in my head was nothing compared to it. I wasn't even sure I could walk with this pain, and as soon as I stood up, I fell back to the ground. I considered crawling out of the room, but when I looked around I saw how big the room was. This room was so big for any normal family that for a moment I thought it was a shelter, but when I looked more closely I saw that there were cribs everywhere. I thought to myself, "I wonder if all the cribs sleep babies like me?" This thought turned into curiosity. I wanted to look at at least a few cribs. However, everything was just as I had imagined; there was a baby sleeping in each of the cribs. After that, I thought this was a delivery room, but all the babies looked alike. Darker than black, navy blue hair, blood-red eyes. For a moment I thought, "I wonder if I'm like that?" This thought forced me to find a mirror, but there weren't any in the room. I thought I could find a mirror by going out the door, and I started crawling towards the door. I wish I hadn't. Just as I reached the door, the door suddenly opened, and in front of me was a man so big I couldn't even call him a man. I think he even snatched my baby body under him. I tried to crawl away in fear, but he grabbed my leg and lifted me into the air and said to the butler behind him, "Is that Andreas?" He said. The butler confirmed this, and I finally learned my name. With a disgusting smile on his face, he said, "Butler, bring this to the main family house." The butler nodded, his head bowed, as if he were afraid for me. He took me from that man and hugged me like a baby; at least the butler seemed trustworthy. But thoughts started to flood my mind; who is this man, what is the main family house, who is the butler, why am I here, is my body really a baby's body? The more I thought about these questions, the worse my head started to ache, and finally, I passed out from lack of sleep. When I opened my eyes, I was back in that snow-white place, and the shadow was in front of me again. This time, I realized I could speak mentally, but before I could speak, the shadow asked me, "Did you get your name?" When I considered saying yes, the shadow was surprised. "At least you seem to have figured something out." His mouth was not moving at all. At that moment, I realized he was speaking thoughtfully too. Isn't this telepathy? I said and the shadow confirmed it and then the shadow said to me "You have to go. Don't trust the Verblade family" and suddenly I found myself in a horse carriage carried by the butler. We were going to the main family house that this big man said, I think. After about 20 minutes the carriage stopped. The butler got out of the car. The butler, who had only just noticed that my eyes were open, said "Ah young master, so you were awake. Welcome to the main family house of Verblade." I don't understand how he thought a baby would understand this but what really couldn't understand was the size of this house. This wasn't a house; calling it a castle would be an insult. This house was so big and famous that there were more guards than I could count at the entrance. There were people in servants' uniforms in every corner of the garden. It seemed like it would take me at least a day just to explore the garden. Why was this whole castle, or house anyway, so big? Since I couldn't ask the butler any questions, I waited for him to take me inside. Instead of the house directly across from me, he took me to a house within the same boundaries, but one that seemed less famous than the main house. There were a few other babies like me there. The butler handed me over to the servant, saying, "This is the last and probably the most powerful of the special genocide unit chosen by the chief." The servant, surprised, took me and left me in a room large enough for me. There was a cradle in the corner of the room, and the remaining walls were filled with cabinets and tables. It had only one window, and that window was too high for me to reach. In short, the room was practically a dungeon. The servant left and closed the door, but I could still hear him talking to the butler:

"This child... Will the butler really live up to the Verbalde family's expectations?"

"I believe he will live up to their expectations."

He said and left.

I think this "Lord Cauron" was a huge man. I tried to back away from the door, afraid, but it suddenly opened...
