Chapter 7 - Wake Up

Chapter Seven

'Amara, wake up.'

Although, she was sound asleep, or rather, she was in a state of drunken stupor, she heard the unfamiliar, yet, gentle voice that felt like a lover's caress and her eyes fluttered open.

Only her immediate family members called her by the name Amara, and she was far away from home. Everyone else knew her as Amy, so who could have called her name?

Who called my name? she asked herself as she tried to sit up, but everywhere around her was silent.

She knew it hadn't been a dream. She had heard the words too clearly in her sleep and had felt a touch.

She was feeling something else too. She didn't know what it was, but there was a certain sense of urgency in her spirit and at the same time felt like weeping.

The first thing she became conscious of as she sat up on the bed was the fact that she was alone in the room.

Although the room was dark save for the ray of light coming in from what she supposed was the bathroom door, she could tell there was no one else in the room with her.

Neither the chief nor the other girl, who had come with her on this appointment were on the bed with her.

Where did they go? Did they perhaps decide to go continue alone in another room?

She didn't care if that was what they were up to. All she wanted was to leave now.

What was the time?

She wanted to get back to Valerie's place and pick up the bag she had packed up already before Valerie wakes up.

As she got off the bed, she tried to reach for her purse which she had left by the bedside drawer, but there was nothing there.

Standing up she tried to locate the light switch, and she turned on the light in the room. Immediately her gaze fell on her reflection in the mirror on the vanity mirror and she couldn't help being ashamed when she saw her naked body.

Her body was sticky and she needed a bath. She didn't want them to return to the room to see her this way. She didn't even want them to see her at all when they got back.

She looked around the room for her dress and purse and saw her purse on one of the chairs, and her skimpy dress on the floor beside the chair.

She quickly picked them up and took out her phone from her purse. She sighed when she saw that it was almost 3 a.m.

How was she going to go home when it was so late in the night and she didn't even know where she was?

It would be too risky for her to leave now even if she wanted to, she thought, and decided to turn on her data so that she could determine her location using the map.

Before turning on the data she put her phone on silent mode so that the sound of her message notifications won't disturb the quiet of the house.

She wasn't quite familiar with the address on the map but she saw it was quite a distance from Valerie's house when she put Valerie's address on the map.

Perhaps she could just freshen up and then wait until morning to leave? Even as she considered it, she felt unsettled in her spirit.

She couldn't understand why she was feeling this increasing urge to leave immediately.

As she was thinking about it, her phone started vibrating and her heart skipped a beat when she saw a call from her mother.

Why was her mother calling her at that time of the night? Was something wrong?

She quickly received the call, "Mummy…"

"Amara where are you? I had a nightmare about you and I've been praying for you. Where are you?" Her mother asked in an urgent tone before she could speak.

Amara swallowed past the lump that had suddenly lodged in her throat, "I'm in my house. Where else will I be?" She asked in a hushed tone, not understanding why she was whispering.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. Yes. What did you dream about?" Amara asked, her heart beating fast.

"I dreamt that your enemy was killed…"

"God forbid!" Amara quickly rejected it.

"Just be careful. I've prayed for you. Now that I know you're fine and in your house I'm going back to bed. Pray before you sleep," her mother said, and then hung up the call.

Was that the reason she had woken up and was feeling this way? Amara wondered.

Now that she had heard that, she didn't know what to do. Was the nightmare a sort of warning asking her not to leave now cause it will be dangerous? Or was it asking her to leave?

"God what should I do?" She muttered, her heart still pounding as she quickly put on her G-string and her dress.

She was just going to look for Chief and the other girl and tell them that she needed to leave because something urgent came up at home. Maybe the chief would be kind enough to ask his driver or someone to drop her off somewhere safe, Amara reasoned as she walked out of the

With her purse in hand, she carefully opened the door so as not to make any noise as she stepped out of the room.

She looked down the hallway, there were three doors. She decided to check the rooms to see if they were there.

As she approached one of the rooms, she heard voices coming from inside. They were speaking in low tones.

Thinking it was chief and the girl, she wanted to step inside the room but paused when she realized she was hearing two male voices.

Amara's heart skipped several beats when she heard one of them say, "It's almost time for the second sacrifice. Get your boys to clean up this place and then you can bring in the second girl."
