Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: I Accidentally Became a Campus Legend

My Life as a Background Extra… with Overpowered Luck

continuing the misadventures of Ash Wynn.

I woke up late again.

To be fair, last night was… weird.Ancient relics, glowing blue orbs, professors screaming about prophecy, it was a lot for someone who literally just wanted a nap.

Still, that didn't stop the academy rumor machine from doing its thing.

As I walked through the hallway toward my first class, I could feel the stares.

"That's him...""Is that the guy who broke the sealed statue?""He looks... so average.""But the relic chose him, didn't it?""What's with that bedhead? Is that a new trend?"

I sighed and kept walking, hands in my pockets. No energy to explain anything. They'd forget about me in a week. Hopefully.

I stepped into Class E, aka the class for people with low-tier talents.

Seats were half-filled with kids like me: rejected mages, underachiever knights, and one guy whose class was literally just "Gardener."

"Yo, Ash!"A cheerful voice called out. It was Kai, my roommate and one of the few people who didn't treat me like dirt.

"You made it," he said, grinning. "I thought you dropped out after what happened yesterday!"

"I tried," I muttered, slumping into the seat beside him.

Before he could say more, the classroom door burst open.A tall girl walked in. Silver hair, sharp eyes, perfect uniform. She screamed Main Character Energy.

Oh no.

That was Iris Velhart, top of her class, daughter of a duke, and a rumored prodigy of magic and sword. She glanced around... and her eyes stopped on me.

I looked away immediately. Nope. Not today. I didn't want any part in whatever heroic quest she was cooking up.

But she walked straight toward me.

"You," she said.Everyone went silent.

I pointed at myself. "Me?"

"You're Ash Wynn, correct?"

"…Depends who's asking."

"Iris Velhart," she said. "Top-tier magic-user. I'd like to duel you."

I blinked. "Why?"

"Because," she said seriously, "anyone chosen by a sealed relic must be powerful. And I want to see your strength."

I stood up slowly. The class gasped.

"Okay." I stretched. "Let's duel... in two months."

"Why two months?"

"I need time... to finish a nap first."

I sat back down and pulled my hood over my face.Class E lost their minds.

Some guy whispered, "He just… casually delayed a duel with Iris Velhart?!"

Kai leaned in, eyes wide. "Bro. Are you trying to die?"

I groaned. "I just want a normal semester…"
