Chapter 16 - Rice crackers!

"CAW!"a golden eagle swooped down with it claw's reflecting a sharp gleam, locking its eyes on a strange shaped wiggling worm just as the tips of its claws where about to puncture the small creature Crush! A bloodied jaw encapsulated the neck of the eagle sinking its canines deep into the squriming animal before it slowly slumped blood dripped down, gliding on the tough dry cracked skin, two blood shot eyes on the verge of succumbing to insanity locked it sight on the first meal he's had in days.

The familiar taste of blood seeped down into his dry throat, another's blood other than his quenching his thirst only if temporary, greedily he deveoured the streams of blood like a mad mad man, lost in his haze the metallic taste that would've bothered any sane individual didn't bother him at all gulping down what he could, a gush of cold wind prickled his skin but more so his disfigured left Leg that had long since lost any feeling alongside his finger that have been blackened to the extent of losing their color.

If only that was the extent of damages he had taken from the fall he could've, climbed the mountain faster and reached the summit but it wasent his young body was filled with gashes and gourges the size of branches that burned with every waking movement, both his arms where shredded with cuts that reached deep to the bone.

His turtle shell had saved his life, and payed the price with a mighty clean gash that went straight across, he should've been dead with his spine exploding from the crash but he wasent he lived, in his final moments before he thought he met his end he could've sworn he heard something a familiar intangible voice, only for a thunderous noise to shake the mountain followed by a crack and then darkness.

Once he woke up, unimaginable pain filled his body and that's when he realized the cost his left leg was deformed clamped between, two rocks and when he looked closer he saw his bone protruding out the side and no matter how much he tried he couldn't get it out he was to weak…

Since then he's been stuck for days in the same spot that saved his life and now it was killing him, derived of food and water he went days with out until by his master mustache he saw it Food!

In the shape of a big golden bird, flying around as much as he wished to grab it, it was to high up and he wasent in the exact position he wanted to be he had no weapon no stray rocks around to sling at his lunch and most importantly his leg was stuck between two rocks.

It was right there but he couldnt reach it…..a heavy sensation of hopelessness and despair, weighed on his chest pushing him down as his mind slowly began falling into the depth of the darkness in his mind, as he fell deeper into the abyss he heard it.

"CAW!" Like lighting that pierced his mind, pushing away the darkness an old memory that he had long since forgotten resurfaced it was one about a tea leaf and 842 moldy rice crackers.

The sun burned the hottest that day, and yet the village streets of Shimotsuki village where filled with festivities, celebrating The anual birthday of the emperor yet in a certain part of the village standing in front of the wooden gates of the house of the hermit was a small commotion brewing all because of one certain individual who forgot to procure a certain peice of paper.

"Hah?! Your saying that the great Turtle Sage Miyamoto Jogo and his disciple Zoro... ehhh, hold on a moment." Standing bellow a giant white banner that had the words 'Rice cracker eating competition'. Was zoro who's face, burned with embarrassment as the words 'Rice' was painted on his face as he saw from the corner of his eyes a group of girls his age point and laugh at him while next to him was an old man with the words 'Cracker' written on his face as he turned away, from a fuming village Clerk and a young guard who sighed for the fourth time in the last two minutes all because while they where during there mandatory routine inspections, on any and all parties that participated in the festival, they happened to come by this particular stand infront of the house of the hermit.

With a giant wooden slab held up by two stone statues of sea turtles, and a flag that stood besides it with the words 'Five copper Ryo to enter' and below those words bolden in giant letters said 'The Turtle Sage Miyamoto Jogo Supports this Competition!'

His master looked down at him unashamed and unembarresed, about the words on his face as he spoke shamelessly."Young zoro your master has forgotten your last name, quickly give it to me so I can shoo this evil doer away!" He said that last part as he pointed at the clerk, who shook their fist in anger before retorting.

"Evil doer?! Your the one who dosent have a Washi pass issued by the Daimyo Retainers!" His words passed by Jogos ears, who on the outside maintained his composure but who was really internally sweating.

'I knew I forgotten something.' He thought, but he would never say it out loud.

"I never told you because I don't have one master, it's just zoro I'm an orphan." Zoro said, unbothered yet his master knew when he wasn't being truthful, as he glanced at his smalls arms that crossed together it was a small tick that he had quickly discovered his young student had whenever he felt uncomfortable.

"Hmmm really that so."placing his fist untop of his hands, he nodded.

"We can't have that I guess will just have to give you one."he spoke as if it was the simplest answer of all, shocking the young boy as he stepped back instinctively aswell as the village clerk and the guard behind them who looked baffled at the idiocy infront of him.

"You…You,you can't just do that! are you insane!, you can't just hand out last names as if there where growing on trees it's madness!"the village clerk yelled pointing his Shaking finger at him.

Yet the village clerks voice went unheard as the old man Closed his eyes in deep concentration, while Zoro watched as his master spoke to himself briefly."Hmm let's see you can't have my last name because It would be strange to have another Miyamoto running around here, that didn't come out of me and saying Miyamoto over and over again would be pretty annoying that why I didn't have any brats in the first place I think?no there was that time with the princess, and the daimyos wives, and I can't forget the time in the bathouse heheheheheh~."Zoro almost fell face first as he heard what his master was saying until out of nowhere his master, snapped open his eyes and grinned.

"Ah I got it!" Zoro looked at his master with anticipation, he couldn't help it as much as he acted as if he didn't need one deep in his heart he couldn't help but think it would be nice.

The village clerk and the guard also couldn't help but wait in anticipation aswell, wandering what the last name of this orphan boy would be even if they couldn't help but think this was crazy.

"ChunchunMaru!"

The sounds of glass breaking where heard, as the village clerk and guard fell face first to the ground, and zoro stared at his master devoid of emotion with hollow eyes.
