Jimmy's laugh was partly due to the unbelievable coincidence that he had just happened to encounter the murder suspect in the case Lambert had assigned to him, and more so because he was the one who had actually captured him. On the other hand, his laughter also carried a sense of helplessness. His original intention in taking the case was to provide a cover for his movements so he could have a reason to roam around freely; he believed this was also what Lambert had intended. Yet, the murderer showed up at just the moment when he had gotten a lead on Mo Davis and was preparing to look for him.
What to do now? As an FBI Senior Agent, Jimmy was very responsible. Since he had found the murderer, there was no way he could let him go; that would not be true to his profession.
