Chapter 140 - Steel Thyself For You Are The Everfrost

Michael was being cornered, by both the pillars of ice and the three attackers of Frostfang.

He wasn't very useful in this game, especially now that it was an all out battle with zero rules.

After all, his affinities were all based on ice and freezing, but he found it quite difficult to freeze something that was already frozen.

Then as he blocked and dodged powerful armed attacks from everyone and everything around him, he remembered just how much Chase's speech had meant to him.

It was like his eyes had been opened, and it meant so much more since he was one of the few who truly knew who he was.

'One of the heirs of the entire kingdom it fighting his heart out for his entire team... His entire school... His home...'

"I HAVE TO FIGHT HARDER!"

Feeling a fury of snow begin to build up around him, the air somehow grew even colder and Michael's eyes nearly blacked out from the pain of it all.

Then walls of ice shot from the ground blocking attacks left and right...

But they weren't walls...

Giant limbs shot from the ground, smashing down on the opposing players, crushing them underneath their weight.

Until one of them was able to shatter the entire icy creation with a single blow.

He towered over Michael, and had several open wounds all over his face, which was completely visible, because his helmet wasn't even on which made him look like some sort of war torn Orc.

Michael now stood on an empty plane of snow and ice, as he stood meters away from Jax of House Morden, who's origin had just now been revealed.

'A half orc...'

Whoever he must have met before Michael on the battlefield must have really done a number on him, because he truly looked horrific.

But that didn't stop him from slowly taking step after step toward Michael, with his giant frozen battle axe of steel swinging lazily by his side.

Michael thought for as long as he could, but did not know how to advance in this fight.

The axe was about as big as him, and would crush him with a single strike.

So he summoned a weapon that was both swift, and mighty.

He had gotten a little better at forging his own weapons of ice, but he had no where near mastered it.

'Come on... Please....'

Then ice began to swirl around his right hand, like a tornado of raw snow and power.

As the ice began to join together, and rewire how ice worked in the first place, a new weapon had slowly built itself piece by piece in his hand.

A mighty blue and white war scythe now rested in his hand, and was about two and a half meters long, pulling down his entire arm from the weight of his newfound weapon.

Resting his left hand on a reasonable place on the long handle of ice, he closed his eyes for a moment, trying to remember how to use a longer weapon.

He remembered his weekly training with Chase, and how the two of them had tested out multiple weapons, and his friend had called people who use large weapons, meatheads and frontline fodders...

Then he charged the half-orc, and swung upward in a curved motion...

The scythe met its target swiftly, cutting the nose of Jax open, which resulted in a terrible scream of pain.

Then Jax lifted his axe up, and brought it down with a mighty strike, taking advantage of Michael's hesitation.

The axe broke into the ground like a meteor, sending Michael flying backward into a large mound of snow, as he felt every little part of his body crack under the force of pressure.

Somehow Jax had cleared the area between them in seconds, and was now ten meters above his head with a powerful strike soaring down on the child of House Everfrost.

"Shi-"

Then before the strike landed, a spear made of some sort of green metal shot through the sky and impaled Jax in the chest.

Skyler appeared from the clearing in the woods, as he looked forward with a terribly tired gaze resting on his worn out face.

The zombie looked terrible, he had wounds lined up across his body like some sort of chisel had precisely made each one look like a dent or crevice.

Both dark green and red blood had drowned his entire jersey.

Michael looked down at his own, only to notice that he didn't look much better.

Jax few attacks on him that had landed had truly made a horrific impact, his body was screaming in protest, and his bones ached with terrible pain.

He couldn't do this any longer, he had to give up...

Skyler continued forward though, as Jax pushed himself up from the rubble of multiple trees that he had crumbled from his force.

Ripping the spear out of his stomach, Jax let out a terrible scream, as he lowered his head and ran forward like a crazed bull, crushing everything in his path.

With no weapon Skyler gave Michael a pitied look, and sighed.

"Stand up."

He said, as the giant half-orc crashed into him with mighty force.

Michael shot up, ignoring the pain realizing that the impact could have killed his teammate.

But no... Somehow Skyler was now standing on the back of the half-orc, as if he had turned into some sort of snake in order to dodge the attack.

Skyler took both of his hands, and wrapped them around Jax's throat trying to choke the life out of the monster.

"Die already you damned ogre!"

He screamed, with anger.

Then Jax grabbed him just barely by the bottom of his ankle, and threw him like an aetherball in the direction of Michael.

He crashed into him, sending them both hurling backwards.

"Damnit all Michael!"

Skyler yelled as he pushed his ripped up body off of the ground.

"How are you still fighting...?"

Michael couldn't help but ask, as he watched Skyler's body repair itself, as the flesh quite litterly re-intertwined itself together like some sort of unseen hand was knitting it back together.

Skyler looked down at the completely ruined Michael, and let out a deep ragged breath.

"I said stand up..."

"I can't beat that thing..."

"Why not? Aren't you supposed to be a child of a noble clan..."

Michael tried to push himself off of the ground as well, and nodded.

"Then act like one, you either die a coward or you die trying to do something for the people around you."

Skyler said, with a strange sense of fear appearing in his tired eyes.

Michael summoned the scythe once more, this time with new engravings of all sorts of things resting on the blade.

'I didn't make those...'

He thought, as the markings looked strangely familiar.

Each and every one of the engravings had smiling faces, all of which the people that he cared about.

Then after Chase's flames seemed to have fully been snuffed out around his body, the air grew even colder...

A newfound sense of warmth rested within the catalyst of the child of House Everfrost.

Skyler grinned, and threw his own helmet into the snow.

"Steel yourself Everfrost... Only you can find the power to become colder than the vast world around us..."

Skyler said with a satisfied look on his face.

Then just before Michael was about to say something cool, Jax erupted from the ground below them.

"What the hell!"

Skyler yelled, which Michael yelled some curses toward the gods as well.

Somehow the giant monster had dug underneath the ground like some sort of rodent and shot upward breaking the ground above him.

As the monster grabbed Michael's foot, stopping him from getting any further from the half-orc, he had a wonderful thought.

Then the air turned rigid, and snow began to build up around him.

Snowflakes the size of daggers rested in the air across a twenty meter radius.

"I'm going to slice you to pieces."

Michael whispered in the ear of the Orcish creature, as he shut his eyes letting the giant snowflakes turn into a blizzard of soaring sharp objects.

Each and every snowflake darted toward both Michael and Jax with insane precision, cutting them both simultaneously.

The snowflakes dug into Michael's skin even further with everyone that made its mark, but they did the same for the monster below him as well.

After about thirty seconds, Michael found himself lacking balance as he stood atop a terrible scene with a similar one only a few meters in front of him.

Barely able to stand, Michael gazed around the battle field, that had been soaked in red.

The snow had been dyed with the blood of the both of them, but Michael was the only one still wielding a weapon.

Jax turned toward the child of House Everfrost, and for the first time a look of terror was bestowed in the monster that now looked like a pizza cutter had ran through his body like Swiss cheese.

Michael tightened his grip on the scythe, and whispered a short prayer not even bothering to look down at his own wounds.

Then he shot forward with as much axis as he had left, and launched his scythe with perfect form and precision...

The sound of steel cutting through flesh drowned out the screams of the arena, as a single thud followed after.

Then Michael lost his vision, and felt himself submerged in the cold moments after.

But he had won...
