Chapter 68 - A Message of Ultimatum

Madam Bones made her way back up to the General and the Commander. "That had to be one of the most terrifying and awe-inspiring battles of my life!" she told them. "You were all so confident, even Miss Granger and her father. Not a single injury. That in itself is just….Wow. How did you do it?" she asked. "Good planning, good training, good equipment, good people, and good security." The Commander replied. "I take it you are going back into the office today" the Commander asked her. "Unfortunately, yes." Madam Bones replied. "The Prime Minister asked me to prepare and pass on a message to your ….government. This has been the third attack on a non-magical public location. Thefourth attack against non-magicals, if you include Miss Granger's residence. The Prime Minister has already conveyed the misgivings and extreme disappointment my government has in yours. If this victory today does not convey the weight and seriousness of my government to yours, we WILL send a much more profound and public message. Your Minister of Magic has one week, I repeat, one week to rout the terror organization called Death Eaters, and their lead instigator, Voldemort. Not just to move him out, but destroy the whole organization. He has had over a month (this time) to get things moving, and nothing has. This is unacceptable to us. Please, convey this message to him." The Commander told her. Madam Bones felt….deflated. "I will convey this message to him. With your permission, I will show the entire Wizengamott the battle that occurred here today. Perhaps the message will make more of an impression if they can see what your forces can do." She replied. Madam Bones then turned to Hermione. "Miss Granger – I assume my niece, Susan will be seeing you back in school after the holidays?" she asked. "No, Ma'am. I have withdrawn from Hogwarts and am transferring to Beauxbatons. The level of bigotry amongst the student population and support by the educators is not to my liking. I have complained to my Head of House, and later to the Headmaster, only for him to try to obliviate me, Professor McGonagall, and a few other students. I know you met with Neville Longbottom, Ron Weasley, Ginny Weasley, and Luna Lovegood recently. They sent you some photographs of an event that occurred in one of the train compartments, yet no action has been taken. I can no longer stay at Hogwarts." Hermione said. "I would think things will be changing shortly, given recent events" Madam Bones responded. "Why? Why should things change? If the educators and statesmen don't change anything, how will things at the school change? How will the attitudes of the populace change for the better if the statesmen and government don't make the effort to make a change?" Hermione asked. Once again Madam Bones deflated. Miss Granger made a valid point. Things have to change. And to hear about the Headmaster! Madam Bones was going to have to have a conversation with Professor McGonagall. "I am very sorry to hear all that, Miss Granger. Hopefully one day soon, things will have changed for the better." Madam Bones then twisted and apparated away.

Shortly after, the Prime Minister and General Black were hosting a news conference on the front steps of Tom Tower. "In recent weeks there has been an uptick in domestic terror in our little country. As a result, our Armed Forces have been placed on a higher level of alert than normal. We have increased our training and upgraded our equipment. We obtained reliable information of a possible attack at Christ Church, and prepared our defenses. Today, we can report a successful and total route of the attacking domestic terrorists. We would like to apologize for misinforming the local population last night, but our operational integrity was vital to a positive outcome. In fact, we captured two of the terrorists last night. We would like to strongly commend the young men and women of our special forces who participated in the battle today. Your government salutes you! Your country salutes you! Huzzaaa!" With that, the Commander left the press conference to finalize cleanup efforts.

December 23, 1995. 1:00pm. Madam Bones' Office, Ministry of Magic. Rufus Scrimgeour approached the secretary's desk outside Madam Bones' office. "Good afternoon Aurelia. Madam Bones asked me to see her." He told the secretary. "Yes, sir. She is expecting you. Please go right in." she replied. Rufus proceeded to the door, knocked and entered.

"Good afternoon Madam Bones" he began. Madam Bones held up her hand. Then spelled the door locked, silenced and then secured the room with anti-listening and anti-scrying spells. "We have some major issues we need to deal with, and I would like to know where you stand on them." Madam Bones began.
