The moment his hand touched the chronicle, his mind blurred and a splitting headache assaulted him. A massive influx of information gushed into his head, causing him to become fuzzy, and a warm surge of energy flowed from the book into his palm and then towards the ethereal bridge connecting him to his soul.
He felt his consciousness jump, and the next moment, he was inside his soul sea. The twinkling specks of light danced wildly in his soul sea and greedily absorbed the warm energy gushing into his soul.
The chronicle on his palm opened faster and faster, revealing empty old brown pages that flapped rapidly, generating an energy wave that spread outward, causing the entire dorm to vibrate slightly. This continued until the book finally reached the last page, and that hard cover flipped, covering the Chronicle, which remained docile, as if all that had happened was just his imagination.
Everything reverted back to normal, and he left his soul sea and returned to reality. He saw Old Lu and Olivia looking at him surprise marring their faces.
Olivia had already picked up her chronicle inspecting it while wearing a slightly worried look.
"What happened just now?" Old Lu finally broke the silence.
"I... I don't know... I felt a beacon and couldn't help but touch the chronicle.... And this happened" Nyxir stammered as he watched the slightly overturned dorm, his face red in embarrassment.
"You know it is rude and dangerous to touch other people's soul weapon or chronicle right? " Old Lu frowned.
The soul weapons and chronicles of a diviner are kept in their soul sea, which makes it a very sensitive case for others to touch, as it could be tampered with by someone with malicious intent. Also, it is dangerous to touch people's soul possessions as they could be laced with a spell to cause harm to people who touched them, especially if the person is a maniac, while some people's aspect will instinctively retaliate if it senses another person's touch.
"I am very sorry, Liv, I didn't mean to... It's just this beacon. I should have told you. "
" I'm sorry," Nyxir apologized earnestly.
" It's okay, I would have agreed if you asked, so it's still the same." Olivia smiled. " I'm surprised though, like what really happened? "
" I just went blank and had a headache before everything returned to normal. " Nyxir furrowed his brow as he recounted his encounter.
Although a lot of things happened, it did not take more than thirty breaths as everything happened simultaneously, and before anyone could react, it had returned to calm.
" This my chronicle cannot be opened or used by anyone else that is part of the knowledge I obtained and it can instinctively resit and more importantly it can't act by itself which means you must have opened it" Olivia raised three fingers " so how were you even able to flip it so fast? "
" That is what I would like to know as well but I don't know how to explain what or why it happened " Nyxir furrowed his brow
By this time, everyone has forgotten about the steaming food on the table, even old Lu was focused on hearing about Nyxir's encounter.
"Maybe this is part of my aspect.... Like I could use other people's power or something just that I don't know how"
"You mean you didn't receive any knowledge on your aspect?" Olivia pressed further.
'They can't know about the dark world at least not until I know it is safe for me or I'm strong enough to protect myself and them, this news must never get out'
"No, I don't. That was why I tried sleeping more this morning. Maybe I might eventually receive one." Nyxir scratched the back of his head.
"Maybe I can try holding the chronicle again?" Nyxir looked at Olivia.
" No way I will allow you to tear down my dining! " Old Lu hurriedly rejected the idea while shaking his head vehemently. Whenever he does that, you will have to give him a good reason to permit you to do whatever you want to do, or you can just leave it as that, because he would never agree to it.
" It's okay, old Lu, my Chronicle just probably resisted before, but now that I'm aware of it, it should be good." Olivia quickly stopped old Lu from completely refuting the idea; she was also curious to see what would happen.
She did not mention it before, but she was confused because when the earlier incident happened after Nyxir touched her chronicle, she seemed to completely lose power over her chronicle and could not summon it back or use it. It felt like all her connections with her Chronicle were completely suppressed, and she had returned to an ordinary person, which made her worried at first, but after the incident passed, she regained full control and authority over her Chronicle again.
That is the main flaw of chronicles, no matter how powerful it is, if they can be seized and restricted, the wielder will just return to an ordinary person with extraordinary spiritual power, but cannot use it because his or her chronicle has been seized.
Even so, it takes someone of a higher sequence to be able to seize and sever a connection between a chronicle and its wielder, but for sealers, that might be possible even in the same sequence because that is their aspect.
This has piqued her interest, which makes her want to see if her brother has a sealing aspect that somehow didn't show during the assessment, or if her brother's aspect has a special aspect that is capable of severing other people's power.
"Okay, but be careful, the moment something goes wrong, try to drop the chronicle, and Liv, you should also try to recover it." Old Lu lingered for a moment before nodding.
Honestly, he was also dying to know what happened, but he could not bring himself to sacrifice his only dining.
"Here you go," Olivia waved her hand, and the chronicle flew from her hand onto Nyxir's hand. It was not easy to make such a decision because a lot of unpleasant things could happen, like her chronicle being damaged, but she was eager to give it a try because Nyxir was her brother, and she was also more curious than scared.
"Thanks, Liv." Nyxir grabbed the chronicle, but nothing happened.
"Try opening it," Olivia, who was already prepared for what would happen next, was slightly taken aback as nothing happened.
Nyxir flipped the green chronicle without any resistance, and the Chronicle opened to reveal an old brown blank page with a sweet fragrance wafting from it.
"Nothing happened" Nyxir mouthed the word with difficulty, trying his best to appear less thrilled.
When he held the Chronicle, he had entered his soul sea, but there was no disturbance apart from the wildly dancing specks scattered all over his soul and a surge of warm energy that flowed inside; nothing else happened.
He was slightly hoping he would be able to control Olivia's Chronicle as well but reality slapped him hard.
"I think you should give it a rest for today." Old Lu spoke as he cleared his throat.
"Okay," Olivia nodded, and with a wave of her hand, the slightly overturned dorm quickly arranged itself, and they focused on eating once more. Only Nyxir was in his soul sea, staring at a point where many of the specks were clustered as if having a private conversation away from the others. At their center, a small golden book was gradually taking form,
It emitted a dazzling light, and it sometimes changed form to a short scepter.
'What is that? '
