Chapter 4 - chapter 4: confusion

Anna

Walking through the doors of the meeting hall of the alpha of our pack I noticed the guards staring at us oddly and I assumed it was because I hardly came to the pack house m infact all my 17 years of my existence I had only come here once. My dad liked for me and my mother to stay far away from the pack house...away from prying eyes and I preferred it that way. Now I remembered my mom was pregnant and I felt excited to have a sibling. Soon we could come to the pack house regularly and Mom won't feel ashamed of having just me and being ridiculed about it. I once heard my mother crying in the room she shared with my father after coming back from the pack house and together. It seemed some blabber mouth ridiculed her about having just one child despite being a werewolf and a beta's wife were she could have more. But I never knew why she never knew why she didn't have another child aside me. Not that I cared because I still felt loved by my parents but I wanted her to stop feeling sad whenever she came here. My thoughts drifted away to the decorations and paintings around the building. I was so immersed in staring at it that I failed to notice that I had spaced out from my mom and was behind her. A little far behind. I was still staring at the carving on the wooden door when I accidentally bumped into someone. "Hey watch it pup" he said. I looked up at him and I was startled. I wondered how lost in thought I was that I failed to watch were I was going. "I am so sorry sir"

I said with a bow. He looked at me while still looking shocked maybe because I called him sir. Mostly it was the human territory that used that word. In the were wolf world we address people by their title.but I didn't know who he was so I had to use that. Soon I saw his facial expressions change from shock to recognition. And then he tried to mask it and put in an amused smile. "You are the beta's daughter?" He asked. "Yes I am " I replied. A little shocked that he knew me. "But how did yo-?" I trailed of while he completed my sentence. "Know you?" He asked cocking his head to the side. I nodded in response and he grinned and then his lips widened into a ghost smile and he said "I just know " he said before turning to go inside and I wondered why he was outside in the first place. But as if to answer my question he said "I am a friend of your father and I was asked to bring you inside" I followed him but paused my feet as soon as I got in. I saw my father standing in what looked like a box and my mother in the middle of the hallway. Opposite my father were a few people who looked slightly older than him sitting with a desk in front of them. They looked like a panel of judges and then a man sat in their middle with crown though a little far from them. He stared at my mother with an expressionless face before calling her up to the witness box. I was stunned. The man from earlier jolted me from my thoughts and I was asked to come sit in a corner. I looked around for my uncle at least to ask what was going on but I saw him sitting behind the panel, far from where I stood.

I was wondering why we were here in the first place. As I sat down and watched. I saw two people approaching my mom one was older and held a book and the other held a note pad. And kept scribbling. Soon the room felt colder for some strange reason.

I heard my mother's voice cut through the tension.

Greetings alpha Donald " I heard her say before she bowed her head. "Greetings to you too" he answered in a flat tone. I wondered if maybe my mother had an idea as to why we were here and not on our way home as my uncle had said. "Alpha may I know why I am being tried or made to start as a witness?... As a werewolf and a wife to your beta I have rights to know about such matters before I am being paraded in front of pack members and strangers while being summoned for questioning. I have no idea what this trial is about nor do I know why am about to take the oath of truth" she questioned while staring at a man who helped and an intimidating gaze and looked at her with indifference. Soon the room was filled with whispers and mumurs. "How shameless of her" one mand with a squeezed jaw said. "She dared question the alpha of our pack?" Another shouted from the corner close to where my dad stood. All this while my father refused to look at any of us and stood quietly beside my mother on the stand. From the murmurs from where I sat it seemed they were being questioned for something or it was some sort of trial. But I had no idea what was. But why?

They were made to look like criminals who were being accused. My hands was already trembling from anxiety. But the next words from the alpha made my blood run cold! "You lying whore" he spat. His voice dripping with venom. And his gaze holding contempt and fury. He looked like he would tear my mother apart . "So you planned to sabotage my rule!" You conceived a child that is forbidden and even dared to pin it on your husband!!!" He growled and my blood ran cold! The rest of his words knocked out the air from my lungs. "You would be punished for such a crime!" He fumed. Murmurs grew louder and a few gasped in shock at how the events were unfolding. I looked around and saw that no one knew looked surprised about the trial because they won't be seated here in the first place. So we were the only ones left in the dark. I and my mom "I wanted to hold a trial to hear you out , but I see you don't deserve it since you come in here and act oblivious to your offence against this pack." The man spoke again I now knew he was the said alpha of our pack.i had never met him in person but now all I could say was that he was a ridiculous piece of sh*t for accusing my mother like that. For even speaking to her in such a tone. I was angry and rage coursed through my veins. No one would disrespect my mom and if my father was not going to stand up for her then I would. My head felt heavy and my eyes stung. I stared at my mother who suddenly looked pale against her earlier confidence when she questioned the reason for being questioned. I noticed her eyes glistening as she swallowed down. She looked scared like she would break. My heart ached for her. I didn't care what she did or what ever crime she committed but I won't let anyone hurt her. Not my dad, not the alpha and not anyone else. I stood up to charge towards the front but some one held me down!
