Her body froze even more, instinctively turning her face away.
She didn't want him to see her expression right now.
"But have you ever thought," Jeffrey said slowly, "that because I'm Jeffrey… when your old classmate insulted you just now, I could make her kneel and apologize to you? I could make it so you'd never have to rely on anyone ever again. I could make all those people who look down on you grovel at your feet."
"So what?" Rachel replied, her voice calm but cold. "It's just me borrowing your power."
"Isn't that a good thing?" he said lazily, leaning back in his chair. "I lend you my power. What's so bad about that?"
Rachel stared at him, confused.
She thought that day, when she went to beg him and he rejected her, that would be the end of it. She assumed they'd go their separate ways from then on.
A guy like Jeffrey, so proud, how could he stand being turned down?
