Tear.
Have you ever heard the sound of a heart being ripped apart?
It doesn't burst like a balloon, but rather like a water pipe being punctured.
Sizzling blood began to slide from John's palm.
The beating heart, like a ball dropped from a great height, slowly lost its momentum.
"So even the 'Ultimate Creature' dies without a heart."
An indifferent voice sounded.
Savin's mouth opened slightly. He raised a hand, trembling, wanting to take back his heart.
But that small distance was as far as the ends of the earth.
Darkness eroded his consciousness, and in the end, only those emotionless vertical pupils remained in his mind.
They would accompany him to Hell, until he sank into ruin.
The wand touched Savin's temple, and threads of silver light were drawn from his mind, falling into a test tube John held.
John looked at the female driver, who was emitting a large area of orange-red light, about to explode.
He walked over and saw the sheer terror in her eyes.
The female driver had wanted to move just now, but a single look from John had made her body stiffen and lock up, like prey being stared at by a predator.
Savin's understated death was imprinted on her mind.
The panic on her face was palpable, listening to the footsteps of Death approaching.
The orange-red light became increasingly intense.
An imperfect Extremis Virus would become unstable and explode.
The female driver was on the verge of detonation. She held it back, preparing to drag this human devil into Hell with her the moment he arrived.
However, when John walked up to her, she couldn't even move.
"Die!" As a former soldier, the female driver used all her strength.
Flames burst from her blood vessels, turning her into a ball of fire about to explode.
"Time Corridor."
The moment the explosion burst out, John's wand twisted.
The flames that rushed out of her body seemed to reverse, drilling back into her.
Her distorted face twisted in terror.
Sometimes, death is a merciful gift.
That violent, chaotic power, under the effect of time reversal, was forced back into her body.
But the fear and pain caused by the scorching heat did not lessen at all; instead, they increased exponentially.
The agony of her body being burned by flames was replayed in reverse, searing her from the outside in.
Her vocal cords already destroyed, the female driver could only let out a silent roar.
John leaned close to her ear, his low voice like the deadly touch of a poisonous snake.
"Sleep."
With a single word, the female driver's consciousness dissipated.
The powerful female warrior's body fell, the orange-red light finally receding within her.
John glanced at the fire hydrant that was still spraying water.
Walking over, the hydrant began to automatically repair itself.
The wet ground made one wonder if it had rained.
Opening the car door, John dragged Ferdinand out.
Staring at the car whose front had melted beyond recognition, John thought for a moment.
"Can insurance cover this?"
How should he explain to the insurance company that he was attacked by two people who could spontaneously combust?
Forget it, don't dwell on it.
It wasn't his car anyway.
Because of the New York War, it's estimated that more than half of the insurance companies had already declared bankruptcy.
Using a levitation spell, John floated the two bodies towards Matt's house.
He remembered Matt's house was quite large, and Matt happened to be investigating the explosion.
Just toss this woman over there.
As for John, he held in his hand the memories extracted from Savin's mind.
It was time to take a big step forward.
He had originally thought his Dad was targeted by Kingpin because of the High Table, but then Killian from A.I.M. popped up, and maybe there were others waiting to emerge too.
His Dad was at the center of the storm, but unfortunately, he couldn't fly.
Because of his damaged ears, Matt had recently been investigating cases using his identity as a lawyer.
And today, he was finally healed.
The smell of blood came from his nose and mouth. After spitting it out, his hearing recovered.
He heard footsteps approaching.
One person.
But two heartbeats?
He immediately became alert.
The sound of the door lock turning came.
Then the door opened.
"What are you doing?"
John casually turned on the light and looked at Matt, who was preparing to hide.
"John?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Matt breathed a sigh of relief.
He tilted his head. "You brought people?"
Letting the two floating people down, John said casually, "Something happened today."
"Do you have any handcuffs or ropes or anything like that at home? Some tranquilizers would be best too."
Matt was speechless. He was just a lawyer, not some criminal mastermind.
Although the setup John mentioned could easily be misunderstood, Matt still believed John wouldn't break the law. After all, the person in front of him was the heir to a business empire.
Illegal is very profitable, but legal is even more profitable.
After finding the items, John looked at the pink handcuffs and fell into thought.
"You're a lawyer, but you play quite wild."
"Cough, cough..." Matt coughed twice. "This really isn't mine. My ex-girlfriend just liked this."
Don't look at him being blind; Matt also had a girlfriend. Oh, now she's an ex-girlfriend.
John handcuffed the female driver's hands to the chair. Taking out a rope, he tapped it with his wand to cast a Frozen Fire spell.
A fireproof rope that was not afraid of high temperatures was created.
Letting Matt tie the person up, John also woke up Ferdinand.
The pain from his nose made him grimace. Seeing himself lying on the sofa, Ferdinand scrambled to get up.
"Boss? What am I doing here?"
"You crashed," John said. "Remember to go to the insurance company later to get compensation for my car."
Ferdinand had a blank look on his face.
He saw the bound female driver, and anger immediately surged in his heart.
"It's all this woman!"
Matt also learned the whole story.
He didn't expect that just as he was investigating the veterans, John had already caught someone behind the scenes.
"Wake up." John picked up the kettle and splashed water over her.
The female driver was drenched with cold water.
John told Matt, "The Extremis Virus can cause the human body to lose control and explode."
"You can follow this lead."
"What about you?"
As soon as John made a move, he pushed forward the lead that Matt had painstakingly been looking for. Matt's heart was indescribably complex.
John shook the test tube in his hand and said, "I need to investigate and see who else has a problem with my family."
They talked as if no one else was there. When the female driver woke up, she saw herself tied up.
She immediately wanted to use her ability to burn through the rope.
Matt noticed her body temperature rising. "Not good!"
Just as he was about to tell John to dodge, he saw John calmly watching the female driver increase her temperature, yet she was still unable to shake the ordinary-looking rope.
"How is that possible?" The female driver was in disbelief.
Even metal should melt under her high temperature.
But not only was the rope fine, even the chair she was sitting on showed no signs of movement.
John said to Matt, "She's in your hands now. If you find her getting agitated, just inject the tranquilizer."
To facilitate Matt's interrogation, John also privately sponsored a small half bottle of truth serum.
Leaving the woman with Matt, John picked up his case and swaggered out to hail a taxi.
Robert turned around inside, revealing a smile with white teeth. "Is there anything I can help you with?"
"If you can take me home, I'd be very happy." John also thought it was a coincidence.
This wasn't actually a coincidence. Robert came here to investigate the explosion case.
For this, he used some of his connections.
He found his old friends at the CIA to help with the investigation.
Ferdinand held an ice pack to his nose. Originally, John could have fixed this injury with just one magic spell.
But Ferdinand wanted to keep it. He said this was his medal for hitting a supervillain with his car for the first time.
It was also a symbol of his dedication to his Boss.
"That lawyer is very good," Robert said as he dropped John off at his destination. "He has a strong sense of justice."
John smiled upon hearing this. "The Equalizer praising the vigilante of the night, he'll be very happy."
Robert smiled. "If you need anything, find me. I'll help."
"The same goes for you," John said, raising an eyebrow. "Trouble lately?"
"Just some minor things," Robert said, shrugging. "I won't be polite with you."
As a former black ops commando instructor, his current identity was that of a dead man.
Logically speaking, he shouldn't trust anyone.
But facing John, whom he had met by chance, he felt an indescribable trust.
Perhaps it was because they shared similar interests, or perhaps it was because they treated each other with mutual respect and equality.
The two, who had known each other for less than a year, were like old friends of several decades.
"Oh, right, someone incredible has come to Hell's Kitchen," Robert reminded John as he was about to leave. "I don't know him, but I can tell from his style that he's a lone wolf."
