Chapter 40: Not afraid of the Shen family.
"What did you say?" Clayton Cain's expression changed instantly.
Previously, after extensive promotion, almost everyone in Verdant City knew that the spokesperson for Qingshui Mountain City was Charlotte Walker. But now, they were changing the spokesperson? Wouldn't that make Charlotte a laughingstock in all of Verdant City?
"It's a request from the Harvey March Group. We have no choice but to comply!" the middle-aged man replied helplessly.
He felt powerless in this situation. Although he was the official in charge, since the Harvey March Group had taken over Qingshui Mountain City, they had to respect their wishes for a change.
Moreover, when the authorities of Verdant City learned that the Harvey March Group had suddenly swooped in and secured the project, they were quite pleased! The strength of the Harvey March Group was well-known across Jiangnan and Jiangbei provinces; they were formidable and had significant influence.
With the Harvey March Group managing Qingshui Mountain City, the authorities of Verdant City naturally welcomed the change. They could also anticipate that the group's promotional efforts would far surpass those of any local company. In the end, this would be beneficial for the economic development of Verdant City.
The authorities of Verdant City were naturally very supportive of the Harvey March Group's strategy.
"I understand," Charlotte Walker said, taking a deep breath and trying to maintain a calm tone.
However, her rising and falling chest revealed that her inner turmoil was far from the calm she was trying to project.
...
Meanwhile, outside the Royal Court Hotel, Nora Mills caught up with Chasel Mills.
"Chasel Mills!"Nora called out, watching Chasel's back as he walked away.
"Nora!"
Hearing her voice, Chasel turned around and saw Nora jogging to catch up with him.
"Why are you being so impulsive?"
Nora asked through gritted teeth, looking at Chasel.
"Are you here to question me?"
Chasel sighed.
"No," Nora shook her head quickly. "I just think it's foolish of you. Charlotte Walker is clearly trying to provoke you—why did you let her getto you?"
"Because I don't care about her schemes; they are useless to me," Chasel Mills said confidently.
Nora Mills stared at him for a long moment, her expression complex. Finally, she spoke, "I don't know where you get your confidence, but even if you're not afraid of Charlotte Walker, the Shen family is deeply rooted in Verdant City. Saying they have a hand in everything wouldn't be an exaggeration. You've hurt Clark Sims and offended such a powerful figure; they will definitely retaliate against you."
"You need to leave Verdant City right now. Otherwise, it will be too late," she urged, her eyes filled with concern.
"Nora, you don't need to worry. I'm not afraid of the Shen family," Chasel replied again.
But inside, he felt a warm current. Nora still considered him family; she genuinely cared about him.
He was an orphan, adopted by Gilberto Mills from the orphanage. In his life, he had only his adoptive parents and Nora as his family. He cherished them deeply.
So even though Nora had misunderstood him several times and questioned him, if it were someone else, Chasel would have already taken action to make them disappear. Yet he tolerated her every time.
However, when he heard Nora say he shouldn't fear the Shen family and that he wouldn't listen to her advice, a surge of anger rose within her.
"You say you're not afraid of the Shen family, but what exactly do you rely on?" Nora's tone grew colder. "Is it just because you're good at fighting?"
"That's martial arts, not street fighting," Chaselexplained.
"You tell me, what's the difference?" Nora Mills gritted her teeth.
Chasel Mills sighed. There was no way to explain this. Nora had never been exposed to the world of martial arts, and even in the entire Verdant City, how many people truly understood it? Judging by the reactions of the privileged youth at the press conference today, it was clear that no one had a clue.
"Fine, even if what you call martial arts is real, even if you can take on ten, fifty, or even a hundred people, what good does it do? In this society, can you really solve problems with your fists?""This is my salary card. The password is my birthday. Take it; there are several thousand bucks in there. It should be enough for a while. You need to leave Verdant City, even Jiangbei. If you wait any longer, it will really be too late."
Nora pulled a bank card from her wallet and handed it to Chasel quickly.
Chasel pushed the card back to Nora. "Nora, do you trust me?"
"What does trust have to do with this?" Nora's voice was nearly a roar.
"If you trust me, then go home and relax. I promise I won't get into any trouble," Chasel assured her.Nora was so furious that she wanted to storm off. She was at her wit's end with Chasel. But she couldn't just stand by and watch him get hurt.
"You promise? What can you possibly use to guarantee that?" Nora eyes filled with tears of frustration as she shouted, "Do you know how heartbroken Dad was when you went to prison five years ago? He seemed to age ten years overnight."
"And do you know how happy he was the moment he saw you return?"
"You're so arrogant and reckless, thinking your life doesn't matter. Have you ever considered what would happen to Dad if you got into trouble again?" "You think that today, in front of all the privileged youth in Verdant City, you can take advantage of Charlotte Walker, injure Clark Sims, and make everyone bow their heads in silence, then stroll away looking cool? Is that what you think?"
"Your actions may seem heroic, but in reality, they are incredibly foolish!"
"We're not the children of wealthy families, nor do we have any powerful connections. Forget about Charlotte Walker and the Shen family for a moment. Just the fact that you slapped Austin Lewis is enough to ruin you completely, let alone the Shen family. Do you understand?"
