In the evening, at a banquet near the royal castle
"Seeing you here really makes me proud. If it were the Devil of Lust, life would be like that of a footless bird—you'll only know when your flight ends, when it's already too late."
"Stop shouting nonsense, mortal. If it were up to me, the devil would be here. But the deities all hate me for being the failure of my kind. My righteous place is neither in the devil's realm nor in the realm of semi-benevolent deities."
"But I have to say, my recent state in this realm isn't bad. I've found new opportunities to gain strength."
"You said you have a task for me from the king."
"Yeah. The king will give you a huge number of slaves in exchange for finding his beloved son. He still hasn't located him."
"To give a deity such a miserable task… Do you know who you're speaking to right now? I'm Lucifer, and you are a mere mortal talking to a god—one who could destroy this whole banquet with a snap."
"Because we know this, the king will give you, after you complete the task, an artifact worthy of you. It is called The Benefactor of a Realm. You should already know what it can do—and that it's a one-of-a-kind artifact."
"To think your kingdom had it all along… Surely, I will fulfill your request."
Lutz's POV
"Sure, go on," Lutz said.
"Each guild has a leader and a vice-leader with overwhelming strength. Our guild wants to know the location of the Descendental Deity. I don't know exactly what they intend to do with that information, but I can imagine they want to kill him and obtain the path to become a deity," Yukinotard said.
"But it's worth the effort, because you'll get 10,000 gold coins in exchange. Of course, you're not the only one who received this mission—but it's an opportunity, if you're interested."
To accomplish my dream, money is definitely an important part, I thought.
"I'll get started on it, but don't expect results within a week. Finding a deity, who could be anywhere in this world, is hard," I said seriously.
"I'll search too. Let's meet every Saturday to exchange info."
The day went by like a train speeding at 200 km/h. It was already evening when Acno met me in front of the dormitory.
He looked like he was about to vomit. His hair was disheveled and his skin pale like milk.
"What happened to you?" I asked out of curiosity.
"I think I've finally found the place I want to be. Did you check out the new building in the market district?"
"No, I didn't have time to go there. Why?"
"Then follow me after school tomorrow—and bring money with you."
