A few superheroes were discussing the new captain, the Robot, and its related information. The Demigod didn't say anything, simply turned around, and left, seemingly not planning to wait for the selection results.
"He's gone, he's gone." Seeing the Demigod leave, the Mighty Disappointment shook his head and turned to leave, with several other superheroes following him.
A group of superheroes were eager to join the renowned Global Guardians, but after meeting the Infinite Man, they realized that he could easily be considered one of the most powerful superheroes on Earth.
In fact, even without considering the omnipotent Alien Hero, he could potentially be ranked even higher.
When even the most outstanding and powerful Earth superheroes were reluctant to join the new Global Guardians, the organization didn't seem as attractive anymore.
On the other side of the observation seats, Mark had been listening to the whispers of awe towards his cousin Russell, a subtle smile tugging at his lips. He turned back, but his expression froze.
The most troubling thing was that the Robot had somehow appeared beside him, seemingly unaware of the situation. Its electronic eye calmly blinked, "Director Cecil's judgment was indeed correct. If Infinite Man joins the Global Guardians, he would become Earth's most indestructible shield and sword."
Mark nervously muttered, "It seems some superheroes have left..."
"I saw that. The Demigod has lived for thousands of years, with a rigid personality and isolated from news. Before he came, he didn't know the new Global Guardians were being led by me. He'll leave sooner or later."
The Robot continued in its mechanical tone, unconcerned, "I'm not as powerful as the Immortal, who could easily subdue War Woman, and I can't do the same to him. If he stayed, I wouldn't dare recruit him."
"A large part of them, I don't intend to recruit."
Since he hadn't expected much from the start, it didn't matter.
"But..." Mark hesitated. "If we don't recruit those powerful superheroes, how can we rebuild the reputation of the Global Guardians?"
"If Infinite Man joins, he could stand in for everyone..."
"Forget it." Hearing the Robot's mutter, Mark immediately understood what was going through its mind. He shook his head and said, "Russell hates troublesome matters, he rarely changes his mind."
"Russell, you're out." At this moment, Mark waved in greeting.
Russell walked up from the underground training ground. He naturally emanated an aura of respect for power, especially after experiencing the mountain-like, unfathomable strength of his own. As he passed by, several superheroes involuntarily straightened their backs.
"So, do you have a list of new recruits, Robot?" he smiled.
"Infinite Man, do you have any candidates you prefer?" the Robot asked, inviting Russell to discuss which superheroes would be added to the new Global Guardians.
The moment these words were spoken, the hallway went silent. Many eyes turned toward Russell, their breath held in anticipation. They wanted to know if the superheroes who had just been defeated by him had left a lasting impression in the eyes of Infinite Man.
"You're the leader, you should choose," Russell said, sensing the Robot's implication, as if he were part of the leadership team of the Guardians.
He wasn't interested, simply waving it off for the Robot to decide.
Disappointment flashed in the eyes of the other superheroes.
The Robot fell silent.
Finally, the list the Robot chose included the three veteran members of the Teen Team who were accustomed to following his commands. Apart from them, there were also new recruits like the Monster Girl, a version of the Green Giant, Black Samson with reinforced armor, and the Shrinking Woman, Rachel.
Russell wasn't surprised, as these were the same characters from the original storyline.
"I can't accept being on the same team as Rex and Kate!"
Unexpectedly, Rex and Kate had been chosen over so many veteran superheroes. One was an ex-boyfriend, the other a mistress. Eve, feeling betrayed, turned away in sadness.
"Eve, Eve?"
Mark quickly chased after her, attempting to comfort the woman.
"When a woman is hurt and vulnerable, she's most easily swayed into someone's heart. It's likely Mark will get what he wants this time."
After copying all the superhero templates, Russell flew out of the Global Defense Bureau, watching the two leave. He smiled faintly and gave them enough time alone before heading in the opposite direction.
...
Conquest Points: 16,900
In just a couple of hours, Russell had accumulated eight or nine thousand Conquest Points, bringing his total to an unprecedented level.
"Unfortunately, opportunities like today are rare."
[Do you want to solidify the Clone Human Kate template for 115 Conquest Points?]
[Yes]
Whoosh!
Russell quickly flew to the Arctic, where the sky was completely covered by snowstorms. The howling cold winds bit at him as he landed and solidified the newly acquired template. He closed his eyes, attempting to activate the Clone ability.
A clone detached from his body, then another, and soon dozens of clones appeared.
It was a fascinating sensation.
Russell's consciousness seemed to split like a beehive, with each clone possessing a degree of autonomy while still being under his control. The twenty-something clones and the original body looked at each other.
"So cold..."
Even the Arctic's deepest, steel-crushing temperatures couldn't make him feel cold, but Russell suddenly shivered instinctively.
This sensation came from the other twenty-plus clones.
Each clone shuddered in the biting wind, unable to stop rubbing their arms as their bodies rapidly froze.
"Looks like I don't need to test this anymore. The clones and Clone Humans have the same ordinary human physique, huh?" Russell sighed in disappointment. But considering the 100+ Conquest Points it took to solidify, he couldn't expect more.
There was some good news though.
Russell found it easy to split into twenty-plus clones, as if this was not even near the limit. He tried splitting further, and more cloaked figures emerged from his body.
In the blink of an eye, there were over a hundred clones.
It felt similar to a strongman trying to pull an airplane—his eyes dried from the strain. Russell felt a bit 'weary' with his splitting ability.
"A hundred clones. That means my learning speed could be a hundred times faster than normal."
That was enough.
Though his body felt no cold, psychologically, he felt as if he were in an ice cellar.
Russell recalled all his clones, not wanting to experience the freezing sensation again.
Such contradictory feelings would take some time to get used to.
"This is just a little cold. If a clone were to die, the original body would feel the terror of death as if it were happening to them..."
The Kate had developed severe psychological trauma because of this.
Fortunately, Russell didn't need to use the cloning ability for combat—just for practicing fighting techniques or other skills.
"Learning... Qi, magic..."
Russell suddenly thought about the existence of supernatural systems, such as Qi and magic.
"If the cloning ability were to encounter any extraordinary systems that could be learned and trained, even just one of them, wouldn't that make me a rare talent?"
It was a pity that in the Invincible Hero world, systems like Qi and magic had nearly vanished. While there were gods, they were just ancient and powerful tribes, and their powers came from their bloodlines.
Otherwise, Kate might have become Earth's most formidable force.
Kate couldn't tap into the full potential of this ability, but Russell was different.
He had the opportunity to reach other worlds.
"The Boy's world... Everything extraordinary comes from Compound V. There is no system for learning or training magic, Qi and Chakra or anything, but perhaps one day, I'll be able to connect to a world with Qi and magic."
Russell's gaze swept over the system templates.
