I... Holy crap!

Level 72?

Why is this Metagross so high-leveled?

Logically speaking, a Metagross of this level shouldn't even be capturable—let alone able to fight evenly with Lapras.

What exactly happened here?

Riku was completely confused, and Lapras, noticing its master's unease, immediately spoke up.

"Master, congratulations."

"Having captured such a powerful Metagross, your chances of winning the duel with that Elite Four member have definitely increased greatly."

"That's right, but..."

"Never mind!" Riku suddenly shook his head.

"It's a good thing anyway. I won't overthink it!"

Seeing Riku clear his thoughts, Lapras secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, Gengar—who had been silently observing—looked thoughtful. As a Pokémon over a hundred years old, even it had never witnessed such a bizarre incident.

Combined with Lapras's reaction, Gengar knew there was more to the story.

But since it didn't concern it directly, Gengar naturally stayed out of it.

---

After composing himself, the excited Riku returned to the small wooden house overnight.

Lorelei had already gone to bed by then, but as soon as she heard the door creak open, she got up.

"Why so late?"

Seeing that it was Riku, Lorelei asked in surprise.

"There's good news," Riku smiled.

"And I also want to ask you something."

"Metagross, come on out."

Bang—

Metagross?

Lorelei was stunned. But when a white, gleaming Metagross appeared from the Poké Ball, she thought she was dreaming.

"No... Impossible!"

"This is Metagross... a Shiny Metagross?"

"Riku, where did you get this Metagross?"

"I just happened to run into it and captured it," Riku replied, lifting his chin slightly, clearly proud.

Seeing Lorelei—a seasoned Elite Four member—so shocked, Riku felt even more pleased.

"Captured? You captured it?" Lorelei trembled.

"How could it possibly be captured by you? I can tell at a glance… this is definitely a pseudo-legendary!"

"Such a powerful Pokémon... even I couldn't—"

Chirp—

Suddenly, just as Lorelei was questioning Riku, Metagross let out a low warning growl and stepped forward.

The meaning was clear:

It was telling Lorelei to mind her words. If she insulted its master again, Metagross would act.

Seeing Metagross so protective, Riku was secretly delighted, though he kept a serious tone.

"Alright, Metagross, don't overdo it. Miss Lorelei is my friend."

"How could it be so obedient...?" Lorelei frowned.

"Newly captured Pokémon usually need rigorous training, or they might even turn on their trainers."

"And this is a Shiny pseudo-legendary Metagross, not some low-level wild Pokémon!"

Saying that, she pulled out her long-unused Pokédex.

Beep—

"Metagross, Steel/Psychic-type Pokémon."

"Metagross is a huge mechanical lifeform formed by the combination of two Metang."

"It is genderless and possesses four brains that form a complex neural network, giving it computational abilities exceeding those of a supercomputer, which it uses to analyze opponents in battle."

"Metagross boasts incredible brute strength, enabling it to master many Psychic- and punching-type moves. Like its pre-evolution, it can also fly using magnetism by folding its four legs."

"It has a cruel personality and a violent temper, but a calm and calculated battle style. It analyzes opponents with computer-like judgment, cornering them steadily."

"Metagross is highly territorial and will attack intruders without hesitation, thus being regarded as extremely dangerous."

"Note: Metagross is a cruel predator. It uses its four claws and massive body to firmly press down on prey, then uses the teeth on its abdomen to crunch and chew."

---

What was going on?

Hearing the Pokédex's description, Riku was dumbfounded.

Metagross's battle style is steady?

It analyzes opponents and calmly corners them?

None of that matched the ferocious Metagross he encountered.

If it were truly like the Pokédex said, Lapras wouldn't have stood a chance just now.

But now wasn't the time to dwell on that.

Riku thought for a moment and asked,

"Miss Lorelei, do you think—with Metagross—I can defeat Bruno's Pokémon?"

"It's hard to say," Lorelei replied after a pause.

"It depends on how things go in the moment. If you had a Flying-type pseudo-legendary, it would probably be easier."

"Steel-type is weak to Fighting-type."

"Psychic-type is strong against Fighting-type."

"Your Metagross doesn't exactly have an advantage in this matchup."

---

Lorelei's words were like a bucket of cold water, waking the excited Riku.

Suddenly, he remembered the Flying Law Berries he had left unharvested.

After a quick goodbye to Lorelei, Riku led Metagross into the nearby forest.

When they arrived, Metagross gave a subtle nod to the three legendary birds, indicating its mission was complete.

The four legendary Pokémon nodded in approval, clearly impressed.

---

Meanwhile, Riku walked up to the Flying Law Berry tree and stared blankly.

"They're all gone? But there were nine berries here..."

"Master, I ate them all," said Groudon, stepping forward awkwardly.

"Holy crap! How can you eat that much?" Riku frowned.

"Couldn't you have left a few? How are we supposed to deal with those Fighting-type Pokémon the day after tomorrow?"

"This..." Groudon scratched its head, then suddenly ran to a thatched shed and returned with a sparkling crystal.

"Master, I found something good yesterday," Groudon said flatteringly.

"It's a ten-thousand-year-old Icy Rock."

"A ten-thousand-year-old what now?" Riku blinked.

"It's useful! Very useful!" Groudon grinned.

"If Lapras wears it, it can significantly enhance its Ice-type moves."

"Regular Icy Rocks only boost Ice moves by 15%, but this one? It boosts them by 50%!"

"Seriously?"

Riku didn't even question how Groudon knew that much. He immediately threw out Lapras's Poké Ball.

As soon as Lapras saw the ancient Icy Rock, it was captivated.

The moment Riku placed the rock on Lapras, its aura instantly surged.

But even with the boost, Lapras's level was still far below that of Bruno's Champion-tier Pokémon.

Gritting his teeth, Riku opened the system shop.

His eyes landed on a Steel-type Z-Crystal priced at 200,000 points.

Taking a deep breath, he hesitated only for a second... then clicked Purchase with a trembling hand.
