Chapter 32 - Chapter 30: JARVIS!

(Attendance please…)

….

A stunned, almost reverent silence filled the lab.

Everyone stared at the crimson, Vibranium-bodied being at Jarvis, now made manifest.

He hovered silently before Tony, an aura of calm power emanating from him, awaiting his next instruction, his next purpose.

"Sir?" Jarvis repeated, his voice still perfectly modulated, though now resonating from a physical form, as Tony seemed momentarily lost for words, simply gazing at his creation.

Tony finally snapped back to reality, a wide, triumphant grin spreading across his face. "Jarvis! Hahaha! I'm glad it worked!" he exclaimed, relief and exhilaration evident in his voice.

"I have to admit, I calculated the possibility of it failing at about a forty-nine percent chance. Pretty high stakes. But well, it worked in the end, so all's well that ends well, right?" He was visibly happy, almost giddy.

His audacious plan had succeeded. He had created what he'd originally envisioned Ultron to be a powerful, benevolent protector.

Not exactly in the image he'd first imagined, but the core principle, the success, was there.

Just then, with another thunderous crash, Thor came hurtling back down through the hole in the ceiling, landing with a ground-shaking thud.

"By Odin's beard, and the All-Father's name!" he roared, Mjolnir crackling with lightning. "Don't you dare use that accursed red pushing-thing on me again, you white-haired miscreant!" He looked around, ready for another confrontation, but the fight had clearly stopped.

Everyone was staring at the new red being. Thor looked confused. "Who… who is he?" he asked, understandably out of the loop, having been repeatedly ejected from the premises.

Bruce Banner, now looking less like a coiled green spring and more like a weary scientist, stepped forward to explain, even though some in the room already understood. "He's… Ultron," Bruce began, then quickly corrected himself.

"No, I mean, he's what Ultron was supposed to be. He's Jarvis. Tony's AI. He's in that body now. Ultron wanted this form for himself, and Tony… Tony suggested that we should put Jarvis into it instead, so he could help us fight Ultron."

Tony then elaborated, his voice filled with a newfound confidence. "And just to let everyone here know, we can't defeat Ultron by any conventional means on this planet. He can be anywhere, everywhere, all at once, through the internet. But…" He pointed dramatically at Jarvis, who hovered serenely.

"…now Jarvis can. He can shut off Ultron, block him from accessing the internet, effectively cutting off his escape routes. And after that, all we'll have to do is destroy Ultron's current physical form and every last Iron Legion drone in his possession. Every single one."

Steve Rogers, his face still grim, his earlier anger not entirely dissipated, looked at Tony. "And you did this, again, behind our backs," he said, his voice heavy with disapproval.

"You didn't even feel the need to discuss it with us, did you? How many times is this now, Tony? Oh, right, it's the second time you've unilaterally decided the fate of the world."

"And tell me, our fearless Captain," Tony retorted, his own frustration surfacing, "would you really have gone along with mine and Dr. Banner's plan, especially after what happened with Ultron? Not only would you have refused, you would have actively stopped us from even trying. You would have insisted on destroying the Cradle, destroying this body, all in fear of creating another Ultron."

Tony sighed, the earlier exhilaration fading slightly. "And I understand that, Steve. I really do. I took a massive risk here; there was a forty-nine percent chance of catastrophic failure. But… it was the only viable solution to Ultron. The only other option was to try and hunt down every single one of his drones and then go back to the medieval ages by shutting down the entire internet, 'forever.' And even that wouldn't have been enough."

He continued, his voice taking on a more urgent tone, "Because even if we somehow managed all that, Ultron would have eventually succeeded in getting those nuclear codes. He would have wiped out every human on Earth. We wouldn't even have gotten a chance to experience a new medieval phase."

"Sir," Jarvis interjected, his voice calm but firm, cutting through the tension. "I apologize for interrupting, but there is something you should all know. Military forces are currently being deployed to Sokovia. Their primary objective, according to intercepted communications, is to capture Sir Satoru." He paused.

"And there have been reports of unusual seismic activity in Sokovia, small, localized earthquakes, occurring very suddenly, just after this news of military deployment was relayed and…."

Before Jarvis could complete his sentence, Captain America interjected, his eyes widening with a dawning realization. "And Sokovia… that's also where Ultron is, isn't it?"

Banner's head snapped up. "He's in Sokovia? Why? Wait… the HYDRA hideout. The one where we found Satoru, and the Scepter…"

Wanda, who had been silent, her expression unreadable, finally spoke, her voice low and filled with a grim certainty.

"Yes," she confirmed. "He is in Sokovia. And he is building something. Something big. Underground. In that same place."

Steve, still trying to process the rapid turn of events, looked at Tony, a question dawning in his eyes. "But, Tony," he asked, "how is he Jarvis? You said Jarvis was… destroyed. Gone."

"Not destroyed, apparently," Tony corrected, a hint of pride in his voice. "Shattered, yes. His core programming was fragmented, but he managed to escape with what he could, hiding in the deepest, most obscure corners of the internet, away from Ultron's reach. And he was also the one… " Tony paused, looking at the crimson being.

"I think I should start calling you a 'man' now, Jarvis, not just an 'it.' As I was saying, he was also the one actively, and successfully, trying to stop Ultron from accessing those nuclear codes all this time. He's been fighting a silent war."

Natasha, ever pragmatic, shook her head. "You took a long shot with this one, Tony," she said, though there was a grudging respect in her tone.

"Yeah, no kidding," Clint added, still looking a little dazed by the whole Jarvis-in-a-body reveal.

Gojo, who had been observing all this with a patient sort of amusement, finally spoke up, a sense of urgency in his voice.

"So, are we going now, or what? Because, from what I gathered, Ultron didn't take all that Vibranium just to build himself one fancy new body. He's also building some kind of big machine, just as the red witch over there said." He gestured towards Wanda.

"I think we should probably move before it's too late and he finishes whatever he's constructing."

"Yes, sir," Jarvis interjected, his voice resonating with a newfound authority from his physical form, supporting Gojo's assessment.

"Sir Satoru is absolutely correct. We have to move now. We need to prevent Ultron from completing his plan, and ensure he cannot escape."

Steve, recognizing that their internal disputes had to be set aside for the greater threat, nodded decisively. "Alright. Take whatever gear you need. Clint, are there any weapons caches in this S.H.I.E.L.D. base?"

"There are weapons in every S.H.I.E.L.D. base, Cap," Clint replied with a grim smile. "It's kind of their thing."

"Good," Steve said. "Take what you want. We're leaving for Sokovia as soon as possible." He then turned to Dr. Cho, his expression softening. "Dr. Cho, we'll make sure you're taken to a safe place before we head into Sokovia. It's going to be dangerous."

Tony, ever the businessman even in a crisis, added with a wink, "And don't worry about the Regeneration Cradle, Doctor. I'll have it delivered to your new lab… after all this is over, of course. No delivery charges, naturally."

Bruce Banner looked hesitant. "Should I stay behind? Or go with Dr. Cho? You know I can't… fight, not in a civilian area. It might be a good idea for you to leave me with her."

"And leave you out of all the fun, Bruce?" Tony said, clapping him on the shoulder. "Don't worry, I have a surprise gift for you ready, something to help you… contribute, safely. Let's get out of here as soon as possible." He then addressed the entire group, his voice serious.

"But remember, everyone, number one priority: Jarvis needs to block any and every access Ultron has to the internet. We cut off his escape routes, no matter what. That's on you, Jarvis."

"I will not disappoint you, sir," Jarvis replied, his crimson form radiating a quiet confidence.

"I know," Tony said, a genuine note of trust in his voice.

Suddenly, Thor, who had been quietly observing the Mind Stone now embedded in Jarvis's forehead, spoke, his voice booming. "Where is the Scepter?! What happened to it?"

Gojo, who had been leaning against a wall looking rather pleased with himself, piped up casually, "Well, yeah, about that… I, uh… I broke it." He offered a sheepish grin.

….
