Chapter 6 - Get a grip

BB had been in the frilly pink room for a few hours. She was trying to get Her head around this whole situation. These people were her family. That she was able to understand. Though she didn't think of them as family in the way she thought of the people back down home in the swamp as family, but she was starting to come to terms with the fact that they were blood family.

Her uncle and herself looked nothing alike, so it didn't completely surprise her that they didn't share blood. What's more they didn't act alike at all either.

The main thing she was having trouble accepting is why would any woman cheat on their insanely rich husband, who they had three kids with, with uncle Bobby. Uncle Bobby was pretty much a piece of trash. Why would anybody leave all that just for him, even if it wasn't completely willingly. She could never see anybody having an affair for him. The idea boggled her mind.

As she was mulling over all the facts, she heard a knock on the door of the bedroom. Not really caring who it was she replied with a, "Come on in." She had been overthinking for a while now and any distraction from her brain would be a good one, in her opinion, at this moment.

After a moment, the bedroom door opened, revealing her new to her father. "So do you like your room?" he asked, "I know It's probably not really your style, but the boys and I would updated each year so it would be ready for you. That is until you would've been the age of 12. No, they think about it it's probably not suitable for a woman of your age. Sorry about that."

BB Smiled at him when he said that. It wasn't a force smile it was a genuine one. "You know in all my years I don't think anyone's put that much thought and effort into doing anything for me." she paused and gave an awkward chuckle, " but you're right this ain't my style at all. I really don't like pink never have."

Her father gave her a sad look and started staring at his feet. Seeing that she quickly added, "But I really do appreciate y'all thinking about me in this way. I never knew there were four people out there looking for me and thinking about me like this. It's honestly a kind of nice, but extremely overwhelming."

Baby's father then looked up and gave her a kind smile and said, " yeah I know it's probably extremely overwhelming for you and I'm sorry for that. I never wanted to turn your life upside down. I had always hope that find you before well I don't know, but I wish I could say better late than never but I know that's not right either. My father supposed to have all the answers, but I don't have any for you." he paused, and then walked a bit closer to her. "All I can say is that I love you. I've always loved you and have been looking for you for years and even though I want you to be here with us I know that that might be too much to ask for so all I'm going to ask for is for you to stay with us until things get sorted out and then if you feel like it, you're willing to stay longer. Just know that if you don't want to stay, I'm OK with that as well."

BB chuckled and rolled her eyes, " you're just saying that cause you know it's what you're supposed to say what you really wanna say is that there's no way you're going to let me out of your life no matter what I do because you're a Parent and that's what parents tend to do for better or for worse, but in your case, I think it would be for better. For now, let's just start with getting to know each other before we start talking about life altering decisions like moving in."

"Yeah OK that makes a lot of sense. Let's go with your plan," he said while scratching the back of his head.

BB was internally screaming at this awkward man's behavior. not liking the stuffy atmosphere of the room now she went out on to the balcony and sat down on one of the pink outdoor couches. She gestured with her hand for her father to come out with her and take a seat.

He rushed over and sat down in the seat across from her. BB gave a hearty laugh and said to him, this is not how I imagined the former head of Hartman Industries would act. I guess you CEO types are more human than I thought."

"Well what were you expecting a robot?" Mr. Hartman asked.

"Well, with the way robots are taking over people's jobs these days maybe, But instead Of talking about that, why don't you tell me a bit more about you?" BB said with a sly grin.

"What would you like to know?"

BB thought for a second, then asked in a quiet voice, "How did you and my mom meet?"

Mr. Hartmann gave a low whistle and said, no holding back with you is there?

BB only chuckled in response.

"Well, she and I met a mall."

"Wait a mall got some fancy charity gala or some party on a yacht, but I'm all the very thing that your company is making obsolete?"

Mr. Hartman rolled his eyes and said, "Yes, a mall. Your mother was the daughter of a manager in my company, not the most high ranking, but a prominent one nonetheless. I was meeting up with him and the mall happened to be our meeting spot. His car broke down and his daughter needed it to go to work so she had driven him and had stopped inside the mall to do some shopping. I just so happened to spot the two in the mall before we got to our meeting spot and that's how I met her."

"Wow how uneventful, so no terrorist attack attacking on the mall driving you too together to stay alive or some chance encounter with you saving her from falling down the escalator or something?"

"No nothing like that," he replied, with a shake of his head and a smile on his face, "but now I wanna ask you a question."

"Oh, I wasn't aware we were going back-and-forth," said BB with a big grin on her face.

"Well, now you are, so what question do I wanna ask you?" Mr. Hartman pondered, "I know. How was life for you growing up?"

BB froze at this question, "Damn and I thought I wasn't holding back," she said with an awkward chuckle. She then looked at her father and realized she wasn't gonna be able to worm her way out of this question.

"Well to put it simply it sucked and that's all I really wanna talk about it with a person. I just meant today," she said, leaving no room for argument.

Mr. Hartman looked sad from her response, "I guess that's fair. Maybe a different time then?"

BB turned away and mumbled, "Don't hold your breath."

"Well, anyway," Mr. Hartman said, trying to change the subject a little, "it's your turn to ask a question."

BB still wasn't looking at him. They stayed like this for about five minutes until BB broke the silence saying, "Tell me about my brother's, what are they like?"

Mr. Hartman was a little taken aback by this question, "Shouldn't you be asking them that not me?"

"Maybe but I'm not asking them right now. I'm asking you," BB retorted.

"Watch your words you may have only met me today, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm still older than you by a fair Number of years so that earns me a little bit less attitude."

BB chuckled and said "Yes, sir."

They continued their conversation for a few hours, and though they still may be a little better than strangers, a subtle warmth started to develop between them.
