Chapter 25 - Sudden Quest

Unlike what they thought, nothing happened, which was due to the fact that the girls managed to wake up before the guys. Valeria, for one, managed to wake up thirty minutes after she started her evolution.

Not much about her changed except for the fact that her hair was now white. Not like snow white, but like a holy white color. Her eyes had a golden ring around the iris, just like Zayden's.

According to what she said, she managed to form a contract with the constellation of Uriel, one of the seven archangels, the Light of God. Her constellation mark was at the back of her neck. It was a long sword with two wings on either side of the sword, amounting to four. Her constellation was made up of fifty-four stars, and just like everyone else's, her first star was glowing a silvery white light.

The next person to wake up was Isara. Just like Valeria, her here was a white color that blended into an icy blue on the tips. Her complexion was now deathly pale but had some kind of beauty to it. Her once royally uncaring blue eyes were now icy blue, with an expression that wouldn't change even if the world were to burn.

She contracted Skadi, the Norse mythology's goddess of ice. Her constellation was on the back of hand right hand, just like Dare. It was the constellation of a small, fairy-like girl with transparent sword-like wings. It was made up of fifty-four stars, just like Valeria's.

After she woke up, the next person and final girl to wake up was Amara. Nothing much changed about her. Her hair was still the same peach color, except that it blended into a soul-like black color at the edges. Her irises were now a faint greenish black color. The most noticeable change about her was the face that her attitude towards Tyrel changed. She did not hate him outright, but there was always an annoyed expression on her face when she looked at Tyrel. Not just her, but Tyrel had the same feeling towards her.

Maybe it was because she managed to contract Hades, the Greek god of souls and death, the one who ruled over the underworld. Her constellation was a long scythe on her back made up of about fifty-four stars.

Aiden was the next person to wake up. His hair was now a bluish black color, and his eyes the same. He had a lean build, not too bulky, not too thin, just right. Not much about him changed apart from those stated above.

He contracted the constellation of the heavenly crow. Which meant either he made a mistake and contracted the wrong constellation, or he wasn't destined to be a tank from the beginning. The constellation was a feather made out of forty-five stars on the side of his neck.

Finally, Soren was done with his evolution. Apart from his slightly red eyes and the aura of battle around him, nothing else changed. He contracted the constellation of the giant ape, yes, the same constellation that Zayden contracted in his previous life. But unlike with Zayden, this constellation seemed to fit him very well, as if tailored for him.

On his chest was a big fist made out of forty-five stars, representing the constellation of the giant ape.

It took about two and a half hours, but everyone was done with their evolution. Zayden was the one with the highest level in the group at the moment, at level fourteen, followed by his four friends at level thirteen, whereas the rest of the team of five were at level twelve, following closely behind them.

At this point, the spatial ring and a few other bags were already filled to the brim with a whole lot of food.

"We're done for today, so let's try to make it back to the gym before nightfall fall" Zayden said.

"We'll go according to the plan and divide the group into five, with two evolved powering up the rest of the team," Zayden said

Zayden was the evolved of the first group, Tyrel and Darian the second group, Amara and Dare the third group, Isara and Aiden the fourth group, and finally Soren and Valeria in the last group.

Zayden decided to put Lucas in his group because he didn't trust him at all, and leaving him in another group would be a problem.

"We will separate and meet at the gym," Zayden explained as they left the gym. They were strong enough to take care of themselves because there should be no monster stronger than them at this point in the apocalypse.

As they were about to proceed, a system message suddenly appeared in front of all of them.

[Sudden Quest]

[Description: A horde of null is heading toward the gym.]

[Quest Objective: Survive the Horde Attack]

[Hidden Objective: ???]

[Reward: ???]

Seeing the quest, Zayden was surprised. Nothing like this ever happened in his memories. Their only trouble was figuring out how to leave the college, not facing a horde of nulls.

"Something must have changed," Zayden muttered.d

"Change of plan," Zayden shouted. "We are going to head back to the gym to stop the null attack. We can continue power levelling later."

By the time he was done with what he finished, his statement, he was already charging toward the gym.

The canteen was a few blocks away from the gym, so reaching the gym would take about fifteen minutes. He could only hope that they held out until he got there.

Meanwhile, back at the gym, the people were already panicking. The system message was sent to every single person in the vicinity of the college, whether normal human or not. And at the moment, everyone in the gym was panicking.

They were without fighting power, due to the fact that the strongest people in the gym had gone out. So if the nulls attacked now, they would be dead without putting up a fight.

Everyone was stressed out. But in one inconspicuous corner of the gym, ignored by everyone, was a girl. This girl had white hair with blue eyes and a petite frame. She had a lazy expression on her face.

"Seems like I'll have to do something," she said as she reluctantly stood up and slowly walked towards the door of the gym, the only thing in her hand being a metal baseball bat.

The whole gym became quiet as she walked towards the door of the gym. "As soon as I leave this gym, lock the door and put anything heavy against it," she said without turning to look back.

She walked out of the gym, and in the distance, she could see it, a horde of nulls which amounted to about five hundred charging towards the gym building. With the bat over her shoulder, a slight smile appeared on her face.

"Let's do this," she said as she turned into a flash of silver light and disappeared from where she was standing.

She appeared in front of one of the nulls in the horde and swung down her baseball bat. The baseball bat has a faint silver glow as it slammed into the head of the null, exploding it into a cloud of blood.

Almost immediately, she disappeared and appeared in front of the other null, slamming her bat into its head, killing it instantly. And things continued just like that. With a flash of silver light, she would appear in front of a null and kill it with a bat to the face.

If looked at from the sky, one would see flashes of silver and a cloud of blood. One should also note that the average level of nulls in this horde ranged from ten to fifteen, so the fact that she managed to kill them with one hit meant that she was way stronger than she looked.

It was at this point that Zayden arrived. But what he was seeing shocked him. He expected to see at least a few dead students and chaos everywhere where but what he could see where flashes of silver light and dead nulls.

A trail of silver light appeared in front of Zayden, and with it was a silver-haired girl. "Good, you're here, take over," she said and disappeared before Zayden had the chance to say anything.

Zayden stared at space blankly for a few seconds before running to the door of the gym. With his back against the gym door, Zayden activated his flux coat and looked at the horde coming towards him.

Without a change in expression, he started throwing out punches, killing nulls left and right.
