Chapter 42 - Chapter 42: A Fateful Encounter!

"The zombies in the Third Forbidden Zone, just like the infected in the Second Zone, can spread their condition to others."

"The difference is, in Zone Two it was a virus. Here, it's corpse poison."

"If you get bitten or even scratched by a zombie, you'll be infected and eventually turn. Professor Joe probably already explained this, but I'm going to stress it again: be careful!"

"If you do get infected, go straight to the mortuary and look for a Taoist priest named Uncle Nate. He has a way to cure you."

"And while zombies are your main threat, don't ignore the ghost woman."

"Zombies at least can be seen and touched. But ghosts? Especially for those of you with no Taoist training, they're even scarier. They have no form, no substance. You can't fight what you can't touch."

"So once you're inside, don't go wandering into the hills at night. Ghosts only come out after dark. In the day, you're safe."

On the bus, Instructor Terry Yan spoke in earnest, hammering home the dangers of Forbidden Zone Three.

No one thought he was nagging.

Despite his usual sternness, it was clear he genuinely cared about his students' safety.

As Terry continued to speak with growing intensity, Vincent Fox quietly pulled out his phone and sent a message to Autumn Summer.

"Once we enter the zone, ask around for the mortuary. Let's meet there."

After hitting send, he tucked his phone away and closed his eyes, resting.

The first phase of his plan was to seize the body of Old Master Ren before the corpse transformation was complete.

Ideally, the best time to snatch it would have been at the graveyard digging up the coffin directly.

Vincent knew the plot of Mr. Vampire well, so he naturally knew that was an option.

But based on what he'd learned from classes over the past month, he judged that by the time they entered Forbidden Zone Three, the timeline would already have reached the point where the corpse had been exhumed and moved to the mortuary.

That left him only one option snatch it at the mortuary.

As for whether he'd offend Uncle Nate?

Vincent didn't care.

He had no intention of asking Uncle Nate for help anyway.

Autumn Summer received the message and smiled slightly. She couldn't help but glance toward the back row, where Vincent sat.

When she saw that the guy had already closed his eyes and was sleeping, her mood shifted again.

Blockhead!

Would it kill him to send a second message?

Annoyed, Autumn bit her lip and replied curtly:

"Got it."

After sending the message, she subtly watched for Vincent's reaction.

Nothing.

He didn't even bother checking his phone.

As if texting her had been a chore, and now he was done.

Autumn's chest rose with frustration.

"Hmph!"

She gave a quiet snort and turned away in a huff.

"Autumn, are you okay?"

Her roommate, sitting beside her, noticed her mood swing and asked.

Autumn quickly forced a sweet smile. "I'm fine!"

"Oh…" The roommate hesitated, then asked, "Autumn, once we're inside, can I stick with you?"

Clearly, she assumed Autumn would choose the easier task and wanted to tag along for protection.

Autumn looked a little conflicted. "Sorry, Ellie. I'm planning to pick the hardest one the zombie-killing mission. If you follow me, it'll be really dangerous."

Ellie's eyes widened. "Why?! Autumn, zombies are terrifying! Please think twice, this is way too risky."

"I've already made up my mind," Autumn said firmly.

Though she hated how cold Vincent acted toward her, she wasn't the type to let her emotions cloud her judgment.

She wouldn't act petty or reckless just to spite him.

Several hours later, just before noon, the bus finally arrived at Forbidden Zone Three.

Like Zone Two, the entrance here was also heavily guarded by military personnel.

Soldiers stood watch and patrolled the perimeter with serious expressions.

Vincent even spotted a few robed Taoist priests stationed at the entrance.

One curious student asked, "Instructor, why are there Taoists guarding this place?"

Terry Yan answered, "Because this zone is unstable. In the past, ghosts escaped into the real world and harmed civilians. That's why Taoists are stationed here."

"These Taoists are the real deal."

His words opened many students' eyes.

They finally understood why the government took such strict precautions.

If a Forbidden Zone were left unguarded and something supernatural escaped, the consequences would be disastrous.

The bus pulled into the parking lot inside the base.

"Everyone, off the bus. We'll grab lunch first. The zone will open at 2 p.m.," Terry announced.

The students began filing out.

When Vincent entered the cafeteria, he immediately noticed something.

All the good seats were already taken by students from another school.

Judging by their uniforms, it was clearly Godslayer Academy.
