Right now, the bandit camp had become a slaughterhouse.
Old Master Ren rampaged like a tiger in a flock of sheep, tearing through the camp, drinking blood with abandon.
At the camp entrance, Vincent Fox stood with a calm expression.
Beside him, Autumn Summer turned her head away, unable to stomach the sight.
"What's wrong? Feeling sorry for them?" Vincent asked quietly. "Take a look at that tree on your left. See those skins hanging from it? Those are human hides. These bandits deserved every bit of this."
"If you can't even handle this, I suggest you drop out once we get back to school and go live a normal life. The Forbidden Zones aren't for people like you."
Autumn's eyes widened slightly as she turned toward the twisted tree.
Sure enough, human skins entire ones were strung up on its branches. Whatever the bandits were using them for, it chilled her to the core.
Each hide represented a life, a person who'd been flayed alive.
Vincent's words struck a nerve.
Was she really not cut out for the Forbidden Zones?
Fine!
She had to admit, that annoying guy had a point.
The Forbidden Zones were dangerous extremely dangerous. The deeper one went, the worse it got.
If she clung to naive sentiments, they'd eventually cost her her life.
"I'm just not used to scenes like this yet," Autumn muttered, shooting Vincent a glare before forcing herself to look toward the battlefield again.
Vincent gave a small, knowing smile but said nothing more.
The only reason he even bothered reminding her was because she'd been obedient so far.
Meanwhile, the battle was shifting.
After losing seven or eight men, the bandits finally realized the truth: they couldn't win. The zombie was unstoppable.
Terror gripped them.
"A ghost! A ghost!!"
"Run! We can't kill it!"
"Help! Boss, save me!"
The remaining bandits completely lost their will to fight and turned to flee.
But the camp only had one exit the way Vincent and Autumn had come.
When the panicked bandits spotted two figures standing in their path, they hesitated.
But then they got a clearer look.
Just two normal people?
Their fear turned to rage. Their expressions twisted with bloodlust.
"Out of my way!!" the bandit leader bellowed, raising his blade and charging at Vincent.
Vincent didn't move. He simply bent down, grabbed a handful of stones from the ground, and began flicking them one by one.
Whoosh!
Crack!
Each stone whistled through the air like a bullet, striking with bone-snapping force.
The screams came fast.
In the blink of an eye, all the charging bandits were on the ground, clutching broken legs, wailing in pain.
Vincent never moved a single step. He hadn't even used real weapons just his fingers.
"You're insane," Autumn whispered, stunned.
"Trained hard since I was a kid," Vincent replied with a grin.
Even though he trusted Autumn, he didn't reveal his secret about the Saitama Physique.
"Remember, keep this between us. I don't want the attention," he added.
Autumn nodded quickly. "I'm not the gossiping type."
While they spoke, Old Master Ren had already drained another corpse and now turned his glowing red eyes toward the crippled bandits.
"No, please! Don't come any closer!"
"Help us! Sir, help us!"
No matter how the bandits begged or screamed, Vincent remained motionless, cold as ice.
Autumn bit her lip. Though her compassion stirred, she remembered Vincent's words earlier. She forced herself to ignore their cries, pretending not to hear them.
Finally, Old Master Ren pounced.
The bandits died one by one, their throats torn open in agony and despair.
The flesh around their bite wounds began to turn black a clear sign of corpse poisoning.
Then, something changed.
After draining the last of their blood, Old Master Ren suddenly turned his crimson gaze toward Vincent and Autumn.
It was obvious.
After feeding on so many victims, he had undergone a shocking transformation.
His entire body had grown in size. His claws were sharper. His red eyes gleamed with violent hunger.
His skin had darkened into an oily black, his limbs were no longer stiff, and his joints moved freely. He didn't even need to hop anymore. He could walk like a normal person.
Most frightening of all, his eyes showed the faint spark of awakening intelligence.
Old Master Ren now looked like a beast gone mad.
Every inch of him radiated a frenzied killing aura.
He had evolved.
"Vincent," Autumn said nervously, "this zombie looks... wrong. I think it's targeting us."
"This mutt," Vincent muttered. "It gained a little power and now thinks it can challenge its master?"
"Looks like I didn't hit it hard enough last time. It forgot the lesson."
His voice was calm, but his eyes had turned cold.
He took a few steps forward, stopping just meters from Old Master Ren, then raised a finger and beckoned.
The zombie hesitated.
But in the end, its thirst for blood won out.
With a savage roar, Old Master Ren lunged toward Vincent Fox.
