Chapter 53 - Chapter 53: The Most Pitiful Zombie in History

A few minutes later…

Old Master Ren lay limp on the ground like a dead dog, motionless.

He had been beaten half to death by Vincent Fox again.

And this time, Vincent hadn't held back.

He'd slammed the zombie into the dirt so hard it carved a crater into the earth. Old Master Ren now lay in the pit, utterly miserable.

Even though the zombie had evolved, the gap between its strength and Vincent's was still enormous several levels apart.

The moment it dared to bare its fangs at Vincent, a brutal beatdown had become inevitable.

Vincent dusted off his hands and looked down at it with disdain.

"With that pathetic face, you dare snarl at me?"

Hearing Vincent speak, a very human-like fear flickered in Old Master Ren's blood-red eyes.

It was clearly becoming more intelligent as it evolved.

Given enough time, it might even gain full human-level intelligence.

But it would never get that chance.

This encounter had taught Vincent one thing: zombies are ungrateful beasts. The moment they gain some power, they'll try to turn on their master.

Vincent had already made up his mind.

If Old Master Ren evolved one more time, he'd destroy it and find another low-level zombie to replace it as his bloodthirsty lackey.

Better to nip the threat in the bud than risk getting betrayed.

Besides, keeping it around much longer would be dangerous. If this mutt kept evolving, there might come a day it could actually match him.

And that would be trouble.

So the safest option?

Kill it before it gets there.

"Autumn, drag all the corpses out of the houses," Vincent ordered. "And see if there's anything we can use."

"Got it!"

Autumn nodded and began checking the wooden huts one by one.

She wasn't worried about running into surviving bandits.

Professor Charles Joe had taught them that zombies have an extremely sensitive sense for living humans. As long as you're breathing even holding it temporarily you won't escape their notice.

If any bandits were still alive in those huts, the zombie would've found them already.

Meanwhile, Vincent picked up a large broadsword and started digging.

No, not to bury Old Master Ren.

That zombie was still useful for now.

He still needed it to bite people for him.

About ten minutes later, Vincent had dug a huge pit in the center of the camp.

Autumn had finished dragging out all the corpses and, following Vincent's instructions, laid them out in a circle around the pit.

"I found some gold bars and silver coins inside the huts," Autumn said, placing the loot at Vincent's feet.

"Who knew these bastards were loaded?" Vincent grinned.

There were several pounds of gold alone.

Combined with the silver coins, it was more than enough for the two of them to live lavishly for a whole month.

Autumn added, "Also, I found a heavy iron chain."

Vincent's eyes lit up.

It was thick and sturdy perfect for binding Old Master Ren.

That way, he wouldn't have to constantly worry about the zombie escaping.

"Nice work!" Vincent praised her, then added, "See if you can find a big wooden crate something large enough to hold him."

Of course, by "him," he meant the zombie.

Bandits usually looted cargo, so there had to be some crates lying around.

"I think I saw one in a storage shed. I'll go check."

Autumn quickly returned carrying a rectangular wooden crate.

It was wide enough, but the length was a bit short.

"Vincent, this is the biggest one I could find. It's a little short…"

Vincent gave it a quick look and chuckled.

"Nope, it's perfect."

As he spoke, he picked up his blade with a wicked grin and walked toward Old Master Ren.

What followed… wasn't for the faint of heart.

Autumn immediately turned away, unwilling to watch.

Old Master Ren let out a blood-curdling scream that echoed through the night.

"Aaaargh!!"

In the end, Old Master Ren was stuffed into the crate.

How?

Simple Vincent cut off both its legs.

Honestly, being in Vincent's hands was nothing short of a tragedy for the zombie.

Now, with no legs and both arms bound by thick iron chains, it couldn't run or move at all.

When Vincent sealed the crate, he nodded with satisfaction.

That should make things easier.

Even Autumn could keep it restrained on her own now.

Which meant Vincent could finally free up his hands and move on with the plan.

"What's next?" Autumn asked.

"We wait," Vincent replied. "Wait for these corpses to turn into zombies, then we kill them all again. After that, we burn this whole place to the ground."
