In the original Mr. Vampire storyline, if a person was scratched by a zombie, they'd typically turn into one themselves within half a day.
Wesley was a textbook case.
If not for Uncle Nate soaking him in glutinous rice water to absorb the corpse poison, he wouldn't have made it out alive.
And if someone was bitten to death?
They'd only need two or three hours to transform into a zombie.
All the bandits here had been bitten to death by Old Master Ren.
So in about two to three hours, they'd all become new zombies.
Since they had nothing to do in the meantime, Vincent Fox decided to pass the time productively.
His gaze shifted to the stables.
"Hey, Summer, can you ride a horse?" Vincent asked.
Summer…
Autumn Summer nearly stumbled hearing that nickname.
We're the same age, she thought, and if we're going by birth month, I might even be older than you.
Still, she only grumbled inwardly. Outwardly, she had fully settled into the role of Vincent's assistant.
"A bit," she replied modestly.
"Oh?" Vincent's eyes lit up. "Go ahead and show me."
Autumn pouted slightly but obeyed. She led a horse from the stable and mounted it smoothly, then trotted around the camp a few laps.
The horses here were already well-trained and docile.
Autumn rode with ease, circling the camp gracefully.
That wasn't "a bit" that was expert-level horsemanship.
And in the modern world, the kind of person who could ride this well was usually from a well-off or prestigious family.
Conclusion?
Autumn Summer wasn't just any girl. She was clearly a classy heiress.
A true rich beauty.
"Not bad, not bad!" Vincent praised, then added shamelessly, "Now come teach me!"
He planned to use horses for travel moving forward.
Relying on foot was just too time-consuming.
Hearing his request, Autumn smiled brightly, genuinely happy.
Since entering the Forbidden Zone, she'd been invisible never the best at anything.
And now? She finally had a skill that outclassed Vincent Fox.
"Vincent, call me Teacher Summer!" she teased.
Vincent was thick-skinned as ever. He grinned. "Alright, Teacher Summer. Please guide your student."
Autumn burst into laughter and rolled her eyes before starting her lesson.
"Riding is actually pretty simple. Once a horse is trained, it's very obedient. As long as you don't force it with brute strength and stay relaxed, it'll be happy to carry you."
Two hours later…
Vincent finally found his rhythm. He sat upright on the horse, trotting slowly around the bandit camp.
He wasn't ready for speed yet.
If the horse ran too fast, he might lose his balance and fall.
Just as he was getting the hang of it, Autumn suddenly shouted, "Vincent, they're moving!"
Vincent's expression shifted. He immediately pulled the reins and jumped off the horse.
The horse neighed nervously, sensing danger in the air.
Vincent patted its head gently, then tied it to a nearby post and strode over to Autumn.
On the ground, one of the bandit corpses had begun to twitch.
It looked like it was waking up.
Within moments, its eyes flew open. Its mouth twisted open to reveal jagged fangs, and a low, guttural growl rumbled from its throat.
The first bandit corpse had turned into a zombie.
As it tried to rise, a heavy boot slammed down on its chest, driving it back to the ground.
"Argh!" the bandit zombie howled, thrashing violently and snapping at Vincent.
Vincent snorted coldly and, with a few swift moves, tore off its arms and legs, leaving it paralyzed.
"Autumn, hand me the peachwood sword," he said calmly.
"Oh, right!"
Autumn quickly found the weapon and handed it over, but Vincent didn't take it.
Instead, he looked at her and said, "Stab it in the heart."
Autumn froze.
She wasn't stupid she understood what Vincent was doing. He was giving her the zombie kill, so she could complete the mission.
"What are you waiting for? The rest are going to start turning soon!" Vincent urged.
Autumn took a deep breath, then raised the peachwood sword and aimed at the zombie's chest.
This sword had been consecrated by Uncle Nate over many years. It possessed spiritual energy and was especially effective against undead.
With a wet sound, the blade pierced the zombie's chest with ease.
"Raaaargh!!"
The creature let out a pained wail as flames erupted from its body, spreading rapidly.
Autumn jumped back in alarm, pulling the sword free.
Vincent stepped forward and kicked the burning zombie into the pit they had dug earlier.
It landed with a thud and continued burning.
Moments later…
Autumn heard a system prompt echo in her mind.
"Vincent, I got the notification!" she said excitedly. "I completed the zombie kill task. I can leave the Forbidden Zone anytime now."
Vincent grinned. "You've only killed one zombie. What's the rush? Kill a few more and your final mission rating will be way higher."
"Mm!" Autumn nodded firmly, looking at him with newfound admiration.
Both of them were smiling now.
This moment marked a major milestone in their plan.
They were already more than halfway to success.
