Chapter 9 - Ragunna City. Part 1

"So you don't remember how you got here?" Danjin raised an eyebrow as she carried Katsuri on her back.

"Yes... I was just laying on my bed but the next moment, I was thrown into the wild." She hugged the ranger tighter.

Danjin, noticing this, did not say a word.

After all, it was a common story that some village would get raided unknowingly. Nobody is spared, whether it be woman or children.

The raid happened quickly and quietly, even the authority wouldn't know it had happened.

In fact, she thought that it was quite a fortunate turn of event that this small girl had survived.

It's not everyday that a raid actually left out witnesses.

She had been one too, after all. A victim.

It's great that Katsuri didn't seem to be afraid of her anymore.

"Do you have a plan once you reached Ragunna?"

"Um... No. Not really? I'm not sure. The only reason I wanted to head there was to a find roof to live under..."

Yes, this is Solaris 3.

Not Earth.

She doesn't belong here.

There's nothing here that she holds legal rights to.

In fact, she might as well be an immigrant.

Even they would've had more than she would in this world.

She glances downward, towards the side of Danjin's waist where her own weapon was placed.

It was a long sword.

Some questions appeared inside her mind.

Why had it kept on changing appearance?

When she first found it under the rubbles, it really looked and feel like a normal sword. Minus the extra weight, there were nothing wrong with it.

But then it became two guns.

How?

And now here it is again, as a sword, as if it had never changed.

"...Danjin?"

"Yes? What is it?"

"What should I do now?"

At the sudden question, Danjin became quiet.

This girl, Katsuri, had most probably lost her family not too long ago. Perhaps she herself doesn't remember it.

The reasons may as well be a coping mechanism.

The aftershock of such event led to her losing her memories.

As for her, she didn't lose any memories of her very own tragedy. They still lived vividly inside her head every day.

So how should she comfort this small child?

It would've been easier if Chixia was here to tell her what needed to be done, no doubt.

"What do you want to do?"

Due to that, she fought the question with a question of her own. In which case, she'd be able to know what kind of resolve the girl had built throughout her lives.

Was it to live in obscurity?

Seek glory, fame, money?

Perhaps it was to live a righteous life, forever seizing the world of its darkness.

But the answer she received was unexpected.

"I... want to find a way back. A way home."

"...Ehem. Yes, that is a nice end goal for you." Danjin doesn't know how to respond to such an honest response.

She can't possibly break her heart by telling her 'Your home is already destroyed.' can she?

With pained heart, she kept moving on towards Ragunna City.

Meanwhile, inside Katsuri's head were...

'How the hell am I suppose to find a way to transport myself into another world?! Truck-kun!? That bitch probably doesn't exist here! Wait... maybe in Huanglong...?'

"We're almost there. Hold tight, I'm going to move a bit faster now."

"Huh? Ah-!"

The wind picked up pace and the person carrying her also quickly moved her feet.

As a regular human, it caught her extremely off guard.

If her hand wasn't already wrapped around Danjin, she would've probably flew off.

After a few more minutes of moving, a giant mountain entered her sight.

No, actually, it was already in her sight long ago but only now did she finally paid attention to it.

They were quickly moving pass a bunch of Tacet Discords which looked like they were all fighting against one another.

Fortunately, she was not the target this time.

As they moved along the paved ground, sights of buildings' foundation appeared. Most of them looked to be a house that had the entire upper side... torn off.

Could it be that previously an attack had happened here?

Finally, they stopped at the peak of the mountain.

A small tower caught Katsuri's sight.

"This... is the Resonance Nexus, right?"

"Yes. Is it your first time seeing one?"

"Right... I've never seen one this closely before."

The details on the tower with the scales and a fish tail at the top... They were very vivid, unlike in the game where she had never actually paid any attention to what it looked like.

"In Rinascita, they are called 'Genesis Nexus', quite similar to Huanglong's 'Resonance Nexus'."

Huh? So they have a different name for each region? That's makes things a little complicate.
