Cherreads

Chapter 24 - Level 5

Liam wasn't usually disgusted when seeing zombies and monsters, but this large figure made him feel nauseous.

It might be a zombie, but its body was far larger — standing six meters tall, completely naked, and its flesh appeared to be a grotesque fusion of countless human heads embedded throughout its body, from its neck all the way down to its feet.

(Zombie Level 7!)

Liam received the notification as the massive zombie charged toward him.

Its status indicated that it was still considered a regular zombie, but clearly of a far more terrifying variety.

Its sprint was extremely fast, causing the entire street to tremble with each thunderous step.

"Master, allow me to fight it," said the black rat under Liam's feet.

Liam jumped onto the rooftop of a house along with Alice, giving the rat permission to engage first.

Whoosh!

The rat charged toward the zombie, transforming into a shadow form to pass through its body.

It then reappeared behind the zombie, slashing its claws while biting into its neck.

Aarghh... the zombie let out a raspy scream.

Overall, the rat was still larger despite only being four meters tall — due to its elongated body. When standing upright, it exceeded ten meters in height.

The zombie's strength was great, but the rat was a Boss Monster.

Even though it was one level lower, the zombie struggled to free itself from the rat's bite.

"Master, I'll cut off its legs," Alice said.

She jumped from the rooftop, running swiftly toward the zombie with her elongated claws.

She then delivered a powerful slash to one of its legs.

Although the leg was incredibly thick, Alice's claws easily sliced through, severing it from the thigh and exposing its interior — which was, disturbingly, also filled with human heads.

ROAR!

The zombie let out a raspy roar toward Alice, swinging its massive hand down, which she easily evaded.

Without hesitation, she cut off its other leg, causing the zombie to collapse entirely.

At this point, even after the rat released its bite, the zombie could no longer move.

"Turn to ash!" Liam said, quickly transforming his right hand into Phoenix Wings and flying directly above the zombie.

He couldn't bear to look at it any longer due to how grotesque it was. Killing it wasn't enough — it had to be utterly incinerated.

Buzz!

Without holding back, he unleashed Phoenix Fire, using up all his Mana. The resulting flames were massive, engulfing the zombie's enormous body.

Though lying atop the floodwaters, even the water evaporated into steam as the Phoenix Fire touched it.

As more water flowed in from every side, it too evaporated as soon as it reached the flames.

The zombie was completely trapped, only able to let out raspy screams as the flames consumed it.

"This will take a while," Liam thought, hearing the zombie's screams continue after several moments.

It wasn't burning as quickly as he'd expected. Its body was surprisingly resistant to the flames.

Perhaps because Liam was still three levels lower than the zombie, but fortunately, its sheer mass allowed the fire to continue burning without needing Liam to cast more flames — not that he could, since his Mana was completely depleted.

"Alice, can you attack it from a distance?" Liam asked.

He wanted to speed things up, so he needed additional attacks.

Alice nodded, raising her blood-red claws from where she stood.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

Her claws suddenly shot forward like arrows.

They entered the Phoenix Fire, piercing into the burning zombie's body.

While it seemed like such simple attacks wouldn't affect such a massive creature, each of Alice's claws actually created internal blood slashes, shredding the zombie's body from within into pieces.

Though still alive, its vitality visibly plummeted.

Rather than burning, the shredding from within seemed far more effective.

Fortunately, Alice hadn't cut its neck, or else the zombie would've died by her hands instead.

Of course, after being sliced apart, Liam didn't have to wait much longer.

DING!

(You have killed Zombie Level 7. You gain 70 Battle Points and 70 System Points!)

(Bonus: Because you killed a zombie three levels above you, you gain an extra 70 Battle Points!)

(Level: 4)

(Battle Points: 550/500)

(System Points: 500)

(You have reached Level 5. You receive 5 Attribute Points!)

(Excess Battle Points have been carried over to the next level.)

"Alright, I'll distribute them like this..." Liam decided how to allocate his 5 Attribute Points without much thought.

[Name: Liam Moonvale]

(Level: 5)

(Battle Points: 50/600)

(System Points: 500)

(Strength: 3.7) +1

(Defense: 1.7)

(Agility: 2.8) +1

(Stamina: 3.7) +1

(Vitality: 1.5)

(Mana: 4.3) +2

Liam prioritized allocating more points into Mana, since it enabled him to unleash stronger elemental attacks. He would focus on the other attributes later.

He watched as the zombie's corpse burned within the flames. Interestingly, it didn't turn into a light orb but continued to burn, keeping the fire alive even as rain poured relentlessly.

However, the rain was now lighter, the dark clouds above had thinned, and the rising sun shone more brightly.

Thankfully, it wasn't endless rain.

Liam had no intention of resurrecting this zombie; just looking at it irritated him.

"Master, I sense humans nearby!" Alice suddenly said.

"Really?" Liam was a bit surprised.

But as a zombie, Alice had the ability to detect the presence of humans, so Liam trusted her.

"Take me there," he said.

"Of course, please follow me, Master," Alice responded politely.

Liam thought this wasn't just because she was bound to him as his servant — she had been polite by nature even before being controlled.

Alice led Liam down a street where there stood a larger, more luxurious house compared to the others, complete with three floors and a spacious yard.

"They're underground, inside this house," Alice said.

"Underground? Seems like a bunker," Liam frowned slightly upon hearing this.

If there was a bunker, it wasn't surprising that someone might still be hiding inside.

However, Liam wondered whether he could access it.

"Let's go inside," he said, stepping toward the front door.

Alice nodded and followed, while the black rat remained outside in the yard, as its body was far too large to enter the house.

BANG!

Just as they reached the door, it suddenly flew toward Liam, kicked forcefully from the inside.

Liam didn't have time to dodge and was struck by the door.

Fortunately, his enhanced strength and defense prevented him from taking any serious damage.

He then saw two zombies — one elderly man and one elderly woman — each with four arms, oversized mouths, and bodies exceeding three meters in height.

ROAR! ROAR!

The two let out furious roars before charging at Liam, each wielding long blood swords in their hands.

Eight slashes came at him from above, left, and right simultaneously.

(Zombie Level 7!)

Liam received the notification for them.
