Chapter 21 - Chapter 21- Instincts over logic

'What happened to Yue?' Kishio's mind raced through millions of options, his eyes turned solemn as his body moved almost of its own accord.

One thing was for certain though. He had to protect her.

From the thought of her being kidnapped, hitting a wall and falling unconscious, taken advantage of, forced to do something against her will, there was almost nothing he didn't think of, and it only made him hasten his steps, his fists clenched.

The small pathway on the left finally burst open leading to a wide circular remote living environment, Kishio's eyes swept the areas and immediately he stopped on a huge man at a side of the wall, a little girl in between him and the wall.

He couldn't see what the expression on the little girl's face was as the huge man had his back to him, but he didn't need to, the scream earlier had placed him not just on the edge but already threatening to throw him over.

The sound of the wind stirring slightly was heard as Kishio's figure transversed the distance between him and the man in a few seconds.

He leaped into the air, his figure making a complete turn midair as he delivered a kick that packed momentum towards the man's head.

At the last second though, the man seemed to have sensed the incoming attack as he grabbed Yue with one hand, chunking her in between his arm and his body.

He responded to Kishio's attack with his other hand, blocking the hit and falling back almost immediately, the swiftness in which it had all happened stunned Kishio.

The look in Kishio's became more resolute, from that single exchange he had deduced the man was a parasite holder, he was unable gauge his strength though, but his actions proved he was a skilled fighter. All the more reason to believe Yue was in trouble.

Kishio looked at Yue's face, she wasn't frightened, his expression twitched a bit wondering how she was still calm in such a situation, but then he answered the question as soon as it arose in his head.

'She must probably believe in me that I can save her.'

Kishio immediately adopted a fighting stance, and the man also raised his free hand, he obviously wasn't going to back down.

No words were said, the tension in the environment was high enough, the resolute look in both men's eyes spoke volumes of enmity almost as if they were long time enemies.

Kishio broke the ice, with nimble feet on the ground, he covered the distance between them, immediately sweeping below in an attempt to bring him down from below.

The man responded quickly, lifting one leg off the ground, but he was soon confronted by a punch going to his abdominal area. Kishio was a few feet shorter than him, so even if he wished to aim for the man's head, he couldn't without getting his feet off the ground.

It was obvious the man had no way to avoid Kishio's immediate follow-up attack, Kishio's fist connected, but contrary to his predictions, the man hadn't moved a single step. And instead he was forced to fall back.

'What did I hit? An exo-parasite? Or just his parasite's ability?' Kishio questioned himself as he clenched his fist, it almost felt broken, like he had rammed his hand against a steel wall, but his face remained expressionless, he couldn't afford to show weakness in front of Yue.

Kishio was about to charge forward again when the man took the floor before he did, his steps heavy on the floor, the man charged towards Kishio, the man lifted his arm slamming it down at Kishio.

Kishio squinted his eyes, the attack looked normal, but he knew just how much it packed. He sidestepped avoiding the attack. The man had used too much strength in the attack making it impossible for him to pull back his arm after Kishio dodged.

His arm slammed into the ground and it caved in a bit, cracks formed like spiderwebs in the area of impact.

"Woah," Yue mumbled, astonished by the man's display of strength as she watched the fight, her face filled with excitement.

The ground quaked a bit, but it wasn't enough to stop Kishio, he leaped onto the man's fist that was on the ground preventing him from pulling up immediately.

In a split second, he leaped off the man's arm, sending a kick towards the man's face.

–Thud–

A low dull impact is heard as Kishio's foot connected with the man's face, but had next to no reaction from the man who grabbed onto Kishio midair and flung his back towards a wall.

Kishio crashed into the wall causing a loud boom noise to reverberated in the surrounding area.

"That's gotta hurt," Yue mumbled again. Her face distorted as she couldn't imagine the pain from the impact.

Kishio staggered a bit before regaining his footing, wiping a trail of blood from the side of his mouth, his eyes turned colder.

'I guess I'll just take a bit of his face,' Kishio thought to himself, he had been holding back from using wither or any of his abilities afraid of subjecting Yue into witnessing a gruesome sight. But he had had enough.

Kishio's aura changed and even the huge man couldn't help but take a step back clenching his fist more and adjusting Yue who he placed between his arm and his body holding her firmly with his armpit to protect her more.

Dark aura slowly coated his right hand, he sprinted forward again, but something was different this time, the man could tell.

Yue's eyes were glued to the dark smoke-like aura coating his palm, it had an ominous feeling that frightened her in a way.

'What's this feeling,' the huge man thought to himself.

His gut feeling was blaring alarms to him about the incoming attack, he wasn't sure if his ability could defend against it, if he could choose he would have preferred not to, but remembering the little girl in his care, he steeled his resolve.

Kishio leaped into the air, his right hand going for a slap–not a punch as one would expect.

The man prepared to block the attack when a little girl's voice caused the two to stop.

"Big brother wait, don't hurt the nice man," Yue yelled, and Kishio's eyes lost its coldness, he deactivated wither before landing a few feet from the huge man.

His gaze shifted and landed on Yue, utter confusion laid with them.

The huge man wasn't less surprised though, he also froze up as his mind wondered what could possibly be going on.
