Chapter 7 - Scarf and Milk

After returning home, Yun's parents began cooking, while Yun took the Pokémon egg back to his room.

Gently placing the egg's incubator on the table, he began flipping through the manual he had received.

As he opened the first page, an image of a Pokémon appeared before his eyes.

The creature looked like a fox, with most of its body covered in brown fur.

Its fluffy tail tip and neck fur were cream-colored. It had short, slender legs with three toes and pink paw pads.

Its eyes were also brown, drawn vividly, and its long rabbit-like ears were adorably cute.

Eevee, Normal type, Evolution Pokémon…

No matter how many times he looked, it was still incredibly cute.

It truly deserved its title as the most suitable pet Pokémon — an ultimate bundle of cuteness...

"According to the manual, if you press the buttons in sequence, it will drain the nutrient fluid. From that point on, the trainer must stay by the egg's side at all times."

Yun sighed. The process of becoming a trainer was very different from the anime.

In the anime, the starter Pokémon given to rookie trainers had already been raised for a while and could immediately battle once caught.

But here, rookies like him had to start from hatching the egg and raising the Pokémon themselves.

Of course, this rule had its advantages — it helped trainers build a deeper bond with their Pokémon. After hatching, Pokémon typically became attached to the first creature they laid eyes on.

Yun didn't operate the machine right away. He kept reading.

The back of the manual had some information on Eevee. Though calling it "data" was generous — it was just a few lines of text, briefly noting Eevee's info...

And the moves it could learn.

After a quick glance, Yun lost interest. This was clearly a bare-bones, ultra-low-end version of the Pokédex — probably on the same level as the single-card info James used in the anime...

"The only useful part is the recommended food list, but that stuff is probably widely known and can be found online. Still, better than nothing."

Time passed quickly. By the time Yun finished reading the manual, lunch was ready.

He rarely had meals with his parents — he usually ate in the school cafeteria. His parents were busy with work and didn't have time to cook. Today was an exception.

Having the family gather to eat felt quite nice to Yun.

After lunch, his parents even helped him tinker with the incubator. They had missed out on the good policies and never became trainers — plus they were poorer back then and couldn't afford to raise one — so they were curious about Pokémon.

The incubator was simple to operate. In less than ten minutes, they had successfully drained the nutrient fluid from the device.

Looking at the sticky Pokémon egg, Yun made a decision: from now on, he would carry it with him even during showers and while sleeping. He couldn't miss the hatching.

Two days later.

Wearing a scarf, Yun took delivery of a fresh shipment of milk and carried it to the living room table.

Don't ask why he was wearing a scarf in the middle of summer — it was just that comfortable.

The silk scarf, made from the slime of a Trubbish and the silk of a Bug-type Pokémon, had undergone numerous processes to become a luxury item.

It was a Pokémon accessory comparable in price to an LV bag. A gift from his parents to the unborn Eevee — and by extension, to Yun, who had just become a trainer.

When equipped, this scarf slightly enhanced the power of Normal-type moves — perfect for Eevee.

Yun had even stupidly tested it by tackling a wall... still hurt, but that wasn't the point.

It was so comfortable.

The texture… beyond words.

Quickly opening the box, Yun took out a bottle of milk and inspected it, curious about how it differed from regular milk.

This was food he had prepared for Eevee.

Pokémon were far tougher than humans or animals — some could even battle right after birth.

As for their diet, it wasn't that complicated — as long as it was nutritious, it was fine.

In the anime, Brock's newly hatched Happiny could already speak, walk, and even toss a full-grown adult dozens of meters — maybe it was just extraordinarily gifted, but it still showed how amazing Pokémon were.

According to senior student Tang Ying's recommendation, feeding a newborn Pokémon with Miltank Milk helped it grow stronger.

This was also emphasized in the training manual.

Miltank, a Normal-type cow Pokémon, only existed as females. After absorbing enough nutrients, they could produce 20 liters of milk per day.

This milk was incredibly nutritious for both humans and Pokémon — vastly superior to regular milk. Known as the cream of the crop, Miltank milk farms existed worldwide.

It was one of the essential foods for the unborn Eevee — Yun felt nothing else would do.

Each 250ml bottle of Miltank milk cost 45 yuan.

Yun bought a box of 24 bottles — with discounts, it totaled 998 yuan.

To put it in perspective, the average worker earned around 3,000 to 4,000 yuan per month.

This milk was expensive… but during the critical newborn phase, nutrition was key. Yun didn't care about the cost — not even drinking any himself.

Though… in the end, he couldn't resist and drank one bottle.

"So good."

With one bottle down, Yun licked the white liquid off the corner of his lips, savoring the sweetness.

The taste was more special than any milk he'd ever had.

"When I'm rich, I'll make Miltank milk the household drink…"

Now Yun had a new goal… As a citizen of the great foodie empire, he could not resist the call of delicious food.

Milk was just one part of it. Before Eevee had even hatched, Yun was already busy — using his remaining 6,000+ yuan savings to buy things online that might be useful for Eevee.

In the past two days, every night he felt exhausted, sleepiness wrapping around him — which made him realize a truth:

"If you don't waste your day, you won't suffer from insomnia at night."

Another day ended.

Yun quickly rinsed himself with warm water, feeling refreshed. He placed Eevee's egg by the bed and got ready to sleep.

In his dreams, Yun saw himself:

He aced the college entrance exam, becoming Pingcheng's top scorer.

Top universities fought over him, offering generous terms. He never had to worry about resources again.

Later, he and Eevee rose rapidly — passing the professional trainer exam before even graduating college — gaining both fame and fortune.

And then...

He woke up.

Sunlight streamed into the room, and the Pokémon egg glowed brightly.

Bathed in the double radiance, Yun slowly opened his eyes, still reluctant to leave the dream.

Looking at the egg cracking open, he immediately showed an expression of anticipation.

"I've been waiting forever for this moment…"
