Night was settling in, when Renan returned to Luna's apartment with Wendy by his side. Wendy walked close to him, her expression calm, though her eyes still carried the weight of everything she had just shared.
"This is the place," Renan said, opening the apartment door. The interior looked different from how he had left it. All the runes and floating candles were gone, the place was furnished again, and the curtains were open.
You could see the surrounding buildings, and the city's colorful artificial lights lit up the room.
"Looks comfortable," Wendy said while stepping inside.
"Feel free to sit," Renan said with a smile, then walked through the apartment looking for Luna, but she didn't seem to be there.
The place was similar to the apartment Wendy had been living in ever since Demian's death, but she felt comfortable sitting on the couch. Even so, Renan noticed she was a little tense, her hands were resting on her thighs, and she sat completely upright instead of relaxing.
"Is something wrong?"
"No," Wendy replied. "I guess I'm anxious to meet Luna."
Renan understood.
From what the girl had told him, she wasn't the type to make friends easily, so being in a stranger's home must have been making her feel a bit anxious.
She also wasn't sure what to expect from Luna. Renan had explained that his girlfriend wasn't jealous or anything like that, but Wendy knew better than to hope for the best about anyone.
All the social experiences she'd had in the past had been complicated, to say the least.
Something that brought her a bit of relief was that Renan mentioned Luna wasn't exactly a normal human either, which meant they might have some mutual understanding.
"So... Luna doesn't seem to be here," Renan said after walking around the apartment looking for his girlfriend. She hadn't said she was going out that night, but something important had probably come up.
Even though both of them were involved in something bigger than themselves, Luna still kept a somewhat normal life. Just like Renan went to college, Luna worked and had other obligations.
"Wanna play something?" the boy said, grabbing two video game controllers from the shelf under an old television.
"Huh?" Wendy was caught off guard by the question. "I've never played a video game in my life," she said, embarrassed.
"No problem, I'll teach you," Renan smiled genuinely, revealing his vampire fangs, which always grew a bit more than usual during the night.
"Okay." Wendy smiled too.
Renan turned on the old video game console and handed the controller to Wendy.
The boy taught her how to play. It wasn't very complicated, and the pink-haired girl picked it up quickly, after all, it was just a casual racing game his girlfriend loved to play.
They were both having fun, laughing and chatting about random things.
"I... I'd like to know more about you, Renan," Wendy said.
"About me?"
He thought for a moment, but there wasn't much to say about himself. Compared to her life, his was boring. Of course, he wasn't going to say that — it would be insensitive considering everything she had gone through.
"Well, I can tell you, but you have to promise you won't fall asleep while I do."
Wendy giggled at that.
"I promise," she said while keeping her eyes focused on the TV screen.
"Okay... so let me think where to start."
