Upon hearing Brentley's words, Jessica's face turned visibly agitated. She knew that he was trying to force her to resign.
To be honest, this job wasn't particularly important to Jessica. After all, she had a boyfriend from an incredibly wealthy family. But resigning now would be utterly humiliating. Even at this moment, Jessica couldn't believe that the check Gene gave to Brentley Carter was real.
She couldn't fathom where someone like Brentley could have so much money.
Meanwhile, Wynter was completely dumbfounded. She felt like everything that happened today was just a dream.
Last night at the Sunset Bar, Ophelia and the others had clearly said that Brentley was just a poor guy who picked up trash. And later, back in the dorm, Tabitha had admitted to Wynter that she also knew Brentley was a trash picker.
Brentley hadn't denied any of those accusations, which meant he had accepted them.
But how could he now have enough money to buy a villa? Did he save up seven million dollars from picking up trash? How much trash would that even take?
Wynter stared at Brentley with her big, beautiful eyes, unable to describe her current feelings.
"Jessica, didn't you say before that if Young Master Carter could buy this villa, you would resign? Well, he has bought the villa. What are you waiting for?" Caroline, seizing the opportunity to eliminate her biggest rival in the company, stepped forward and spoke imposingly.
"Resign? Why should I resign? I don't believe this check is real!" Jessica replied, her emotions extremely agitated.
"Manager Rosa, both our accountant Faith and the bank manager have confirmed that the check is legitimate. What are you still arguing about?" Mr. Rivera shouted angrily, his face flushed with frustration.
"General Manager Rivera, I..." Jessica started to speak but was abruptly cut off. "What do you mean 'I'? Even if you don't resign today, I'll fire you. Starting tomorrow, you don't need to come to work!" Mr. Rivera declared harshly, seizing the opportunity to do what he had long wanted.
In truth, he had never liked Jessica. It wasn't a recent development; he had been dissatisfied with her for a long time. However, Jessica's powerful connections had always protected her, making him hesitant to act against her. But now, he sensed that Brentley's background was extraordinary.
A casual check for seven million dollars, personally delivered by the bank manager—what kind of influence did that require?
Faced with such a wealthy and influential young man, he saw a chance to curry favor while ridding himself of someone he disliked. It was the perfect opportunity to fire her.
Jessica's face showed utter shock at Mr. Rivera's words. She stared at him, eyes wide, and shouted, "General Manager Rivera, what did you say? You're firing me? Does the chairman know about this decision?"
"The chairman doesn't need to know. With such a huge misunderstanding today, you almost had Young Master Carter and Manager Gene sent to the police station. That's reason enough for me to fire you!" he replied calmly, having anticipated that she might try to leverage her connections against him.
Desperation flashed in Jessica's eyes. She hadn't expected him to disregard her company ties so completely. Wynter, standing nearby, felt a deep sense of regret. She had never imagined that a simple comment from her would lead to such severe consequences for Jessica. She had worked incredibly hard to reach her position as manager. If she was fired now, it would be a devastating blow.
"Do you even know who my boyfriend is? If you dare to fire me today, I promise you'll regret it!" Jessica shouted, her emotions boiling over.
"I don't care who your boyfriend is today, I have to fire you!" Mr. Rivera replied calmly.
He knew that the higher-ups in the company always spoke up for her because of her boyfriend. However, he, himself had no idea who Jessica's boyfriend actually was.
"General Manager Rivera, why so angry? How about giving my girlfriend another chance for my sake?"
At the moment, a handsome young man in a white suit walked into the sales office with a cheerful smile.
Everyone turned their heads to look at the young man upon hearing his voice.
Brentley also took a good look at the young man, realizing he didn't recognize him, but feeling an odd sense of familiarity.
"Honey, you finally came! If you hadn't shown up today, these people would have bullied me to death!"
Jessica's expression changed immediately upon seeing the young man. She quickly walked over to him and started to act coquettishly (meaning in a flirtatious manner)
Wynter's expression also softened considerably because she knew her cousin's boyfriend had a powerful background. She believed that Brentley and Mr. Rivera wouldn't be able to do anything to Jessica today.
"So what if a poor loser has some money?" Thinking this, Wynter looked at Brentley again. In her eyes, even if he had money, he was still a poor loser. In today's society, having money alone wasn't enough; you also needed connections.
"General Manager Rivera, what's going on here?"
Jessica Rivera's boyfriend stepped forward and asked Mr. Rivera softly.
"Young Master Rodriguez, w-what brings you here?" he stammered.
From his reaction to the young man, it was clear that Jessica's boyfriend was no ordinary person.
"I'm here to pick up my girlfriend!" Young Master Rodriguez declared, pulling Jessica into his embrace. Jessica immediately put on a pitiful expression.
"Young Master Rodriguez, there was a minor disagreement between Manager Rosa and one of our clients. I'm handling it now," Mr. Rivera said with a forced smile.
"A minor disagreement?" Young Master Rodriguez glanced casually at Brentley and Gene, who were standing not far away. "Just a newly rich person, right? General Manager Rivera, you wouldn't offend the Rodriguez Family over some upstart buying a villa, would you?"
"Young Master Rodriguez..." Mr. Rivera's face showed his distress.
Who would have thought that Jessica's boyfriend was none other than the famous Young Master of the Rodriguez Family from Sunshire City?
"General Manager Brown, there's no need to say more. If there's any issue, you can ask your company's chairman whether he'd dare to fire Jonathan Rodriguez's girlfriend!" The young man spoke with an air of authority.
"Jessica herself said that if Young Master Carter could buy the villa, she would resign. This has nothing to do with General Manager Rivera!" Caroline, eager not to miss the chance to get rid of Jessica, stepped forward and shouted.
"Jessica, did you say that?" Young Master Rodriguez asked softly, looking at Jessica.
Jessica was momentarily stunned, but she quickly understood what Young Master Rodriguez meant. She gently shook her head and said, "Honey, I never said that..."
"Well, if you never said it, then it doesn't count!" Young Master Rodriguez replied with a faint smile.
Caroline stood there, staring at Young Master Rodriguez and Jessica , her face showing utter disbelief. She couldn't believe how shameless these two were!
"Enough, I don't have the time to waste here with you two. Jessica, Wynter, let's go. I'll find a chance to explain everything to the chairman later. It's just a newly rich person with some spare cash, what's the big deal..." Young Master Rodriguez said with an air of authority, not even bothering to ask for Brentley's opinion. He wrapped his arm around Jessica, ready to leave.
Mr. Rivera naturally didn't dare to stop them. If he insisted on firing Jessica now, it would be a direct confrontation with Young Master Rodriguez.
"Honey, you're so amazing!" Jessica exclaimed, her mood lifting instantly. She gave Jonathan a quick kiss on the cheek and turned to leave with him.
"If Jessica isn't quitting today, and no one is leaving!" Brentley suddenly said just as Jessica turned around.
