Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Initiate Self-Destruct Attack

"You were way too reckless just now! What if she gets angry? We're totally screwed if that happens!"

Even though Perseis was excited, she hadn't lost her sense of reason.

After all, Poseidon wasn't just anybody, she was the Sea God, sister to the King of the Gods.

None of them, not her, not the other goddesses, were even remotely equipped to go toe-to-toe with her. They were, in essence, glorified vases when it came to combat.

And Eros? He didn't just offend Poseidon, he punched her in the face.

A direct hit. Square on the cheek.

It didn't take a prophet to guess how furious she must be.

Perseis quickly grabbed Eros by the arm, darting her eyes at Styx and Amphitrite, signaling: Time to run, now!

"You think you can just hit me and walk away?"

Suddenly, the calm water erupted into chaos. Massive curtains of water surged upward, sealing off their secret goddess meeting spot like a fortress.

Poseidon climbed out from the rubble of the shattered cliffside, her expression oddly… cheerful.

"Yikes… that hurt."

She rubbed the spot where Eros had socked her, and a strange glint of excitement flickered across her face.

"You really are different. That just makes me want you more."

"This is the first time a mere mortal has dared to punch me. And that pain, just the right amount. Not too much, not too little. Perfect."

If nothing else, Poseidon had said one honest thing, she was unusually tolerant. Though only when it came to things she found interesting.

"I've decided. I'm taking you back to my divine throne, and I'll repay that punch… in another way."

Eros shivered. That glint in her eyes was not the kind of interest one felt in a pretty sunset.

"You're not into some weird stuff, are you?"

Was being a furry not already enough? Or was she a masochistic furry? That was taking things too far.

As the words collided in his head, Eros's imagination went wild, flashing through an entire gallery of depraved mental images.

"How could that be?" Poseidon chuckled, her expression totally unbothered. "I'm the ruler of the Seven Seas. There's no way I'd have something as tasteless as a 'weird fetish.'"

"But I do like novelty, and you, my dear mortal, are exactly my kind of new."

Her eyes swept over Eros, glimmering with interest.

"I'm not the type to hold grudges. As long as you can entertain me, even if you get a little rough… I won't mind."

Poseidon strolled toward him confidently, radiating smug control.

Seriously, she was nicknamed the "Zeus of the Sea." Handling a small scene like this? Child's play. Getting slapped in the face? Eh. She gave up dignity ages ago.

This chick's insane… Should I just punch her again?

Not even Zeus or Apollo had given Eros this much pressure.

Was this what it felt like to face the true number one pervert of Greece? Terrifying.

Perseis looked at Eros, then exchanged a glance with Styx. She clenched her fists, took a breath, and stepped forward.

"Poseidon, that's enough!"

"He's under our protection, we invited him to meet with Father. Are you really planning to kidnap a guest of your uncle, Oceanus?!"

The smile on Poseidon's face finally faded… just a little. But then she smirked again, fixing her eyes on Perseis.

"Fiery little nymph, you think that'll work on me?"

"He's human, isn't he?"

"So what?" Perseis stood her ground. "Our father doesn't discriminate. All life is worthy of an audience."

"Oh no, no. That's not what I meant." Poseidon waved her hand gently, smiling warmly.

"I mean,"

"In this age, humans should all be buried in the earth… And yet you say he's Oceanus's guest?"

Her smile began to twist, madness flickering beneath the surface as her long hair writhed like serpents.

"Am I supposed to take this to mean… the Titan Oceanus is openly defying the orders of the King of the Gods?"

Perseis froze. She wasn't the brightest spark among the goddesses, and her mind struggled to catch up with Poseidon's logic.

Styx stepped forward protectively, placing herself between them.

"That's exactly why we're taking him to see our father, to determine how best to handle this."

This situation could be small or explosive. On the surface, it was just about sheltering one mortal. But if Poseidon insisted on twisting it, she could easily cause trouble for their father.

Perseis had been too impulsive.

Styx sighed inwardly, still unsure whether Eros's arrival was a blessing or a curse.

"I'm right here," Poseidon said smugly. "Why not let me deal with it?"

"Or do you have some ulterior motive you're hiding from me?"

Her eyes slid past Styx and settled back on Perseis, gleaming with amusement.

How entertaining. The next time she went to Olympus and saw Helios, she'd definitely bring this up.

How should she start?

Maybe something like: "Hey, your wife's been stolen"?

No wait… that could be mistaken for a missing horse.

The more she thought about it, the more tempting it sounded. What an easy win, this was like stumbling into a low-difficulty cheating wife conquest side quest.

Perseis suddenly shivered, a wave of dread crawling down her spine. She bolted behind Styx.

Even Styx was starting to feel helpless against Poseidon's overwhelming pressure.

"Lady Styx, it's alright. Leave this to me."

Eros stepped forward, resting a hand gently on Styx's shoulder.

"You're not thinking of punching her again, are you?" Styx asked cautiously, her voice laced with worry.

"Don't be silly. I've already had my fun. No more punching."

Eros offered her a calm smile, then turned back toward Poseidon, completely composed.

"By the way… you still don't know my name, do you?"

"No worries," Poseidon replied with a charming grin. "We've got plenty of time to get to know each other better."

Her every word, her every move… it all screamed certified pervert, the kind that even Eros couldn't help but admire for her shameless dedication.

"Actually, I think we won't be spending much time together after all."

Crackling arcs of lightning danced across Eros's fingertips. The sky began to darken.

"My name is Eros. You've probably heard it before."

"Think carefully. Who did you hear it from?"

Poseidon instinctively opened her mouth to answer, only to freeze.

Where had she heard that name? From that half-mad Apollo? Or even earlier?

"So… have you remembered?" Eros asked, his voice low. "Do you still want to repeat what you just said?"

The air, already damp, began to shimmer with condensation as electric sparks wound through the space around them.

And in Eros's hand, there it was.

A faint, unmistakable echo of divine authority.

Poseidon recognized it instantly.

The power was weak… but real.

"Or would you prefer to gamble," Eros said softly, "on whether shouting right now would get Zeus's attention?"
