Chapter 13 - Egg

With matters in the United States settled, August could finally look forward to experiencing the more prosperous British wizarding world.

Having a local guide would save him a lot of trouble; at the very least, he wouldn't have to search all over for Diagon Alley.

"No, I'm not! I didn't!" Newt hastily denied it, but even an idiot could see his affection for Tina.

"Figure it out yourself. Long-distance relationships never end well," August joked.

"Don't mind me for now, August. Didn't you say you needed my help?" Newt now considered August a friend and took his words as friendly banter.

Speaking of which, it's worth mentioning an inherited item August's ancestor left him: a creature egg.

His ancestor discovered these eggs while exploring ruins with his mentor, but after their assessment, they concluded that the eggs might have belonged to formidable High-Level Magical Beasts but had lost their vitality. In short, these eggs were useless, except as potion ingredients.

However, after August's ancestor became a fully fledged wizard, he unexpectedly obtained something: a marvelous object called the "Water of Life."

This miraculous object could grant vitality to deceased creatures. August's ancestor then retrieved the egg he had forgotten in a corner.

After an experiment, it proved to be truly effective. This dead egg, which had lain dormant for an unknown number of years, once again showed signs of life.

Then his ancestor died in an accident.

This egg was sealed in a box, maintaining a faint vitality until August opened the inheritance, allowing this unfortunate egg to see the light of day once more.

Before transmigrating, he paused to think and brought the egg with him. What if the inner world offered some opportunity for the egg to hatch?

A wizard's combat power manifests in many ways, and domesticated Magical Beasts are one of them. August hoped to tame a Magical Beast before becoming a fully qualified Wizard to indirectly enhance his combat power.

"This isn't suitable here. Let's go back to the cabin," August said, rising first and walking quickly towards their room.

Their ship would take about five days to return to Liverpool, and it wouldn't be pleasant if they didn't find something to do during those five days.

They returned to their shared cabin, and Newt watched August rummaging through his case with some curiosity.

He was a little anxious to know what kind of help August would ask for. August had once said that he was the most suitable person. Newt thought: wasn't his specialty the habits of Magical Beasts? Would August be pulling out some creature to ask about?

Indeed, he watched August search for a while, then turn around, holding a red orb the size of a fist.

"What creature left this?" Newt immediately became interested; this was his specialty. He couldn't claim to know every Magical Beast in the world, but he could certainly say he knew most.

Suddenly seeing an unknown egg made his investigative spirit burn intensely.

"Come with me!" Newt opened his case and was the first to climb inside.

As soon as August descended, he saw Newt holding a massive book and constantly flipping through it, muttering to himself.

"Not this one!... Hmm, not this either... Ah, I found it!" Newt exclaimed excitedly.

August, however, was startled. This egg shouldn't exist in this world. How did Newt recognize it? Could it be that someone from his world had transmigrated and brought some species with them?

"No! This one isn't it either! The color is different." Newt seemed a bit dejected. He had found some similar illustrations, but all were slightly different.

"Can you tell me where you found it?" Newt suddenly turned his head and stared intently at August.

"Uh... I found it in some ruins during an expedition to South America. It was on an altar at the time, and everything else was shattered; only this remained," August improvised.

"Where are the ruins? Perhaps we can find traces of this creature!"

"It already collapsed..." August found another excuse.

"Oh..." Newt sighed with some reluctance. He knew anything could happen during an expedition, so he didn't doubt August's words. "This is an insect egg. I really want to know how beautiful the adult insect will be after such a beautiful egg hatches."

It was only the fact that he couldn't go to the site to investigate this wonderful, unseen creature that made him feel a little regretful.

"Newt, this egg is still alive. I don't know if it can be saved. Perhaps it's the last of its kind," August said.

"I have no other option. I feel the vitality of this egg, but it's too weak, like a flickering candle in the wind. I don't even know how it's lasted this long!" Newt said with regret, looking at the egg he had placed on a soft cushion.

"Is there really no way?" August also felt some pity. His ancestor was a formal Wizard, whose methods were immeasurably superior to those of wizards in this world, yet he hadn't managed to save it. It was understandable that Newt had no solution.

"Wait! I have no way, but another place does!" Newt seemed to suddenly remember something and clapped August on the shoulder.

"What are you talking about?" August looked at him confidently and couldn't help but feel a certain anticipation.

"Hogwarts! It has the largest magical library in the world, with many books on the care of Magical Beasts and several on the cultivation of dark creatures piled in the Restricted Section. Go look; you might find something!" Newt expressed his idea.

August listened and also thought it was feasible. He had yearned for Hogwarts for a long time. This magical academy housed all sorts of magical secrets. Creatures as rare as a Basilisk, sighted once a millennium, also hid there. Perhaps he really could find relevant knowledge.

"Can we get in?"

"With the Headmaster's approval, entering isn't difficult." As a former Hogwarts student, Newt, though expelled, was clear on these basic requirements.

"Would the Headmaster of Hogwarts allow a stranger like me to enter?"

"Probably not. Headmaster Dippet is quite rigid, but I have a way." He smiled. "We can ask Professor Dumbledore for help."

August nodded upon hearing that name. Professor Dumbledore undoubtedly held great prestige at Hogwarts. Guaranteeing someone's entry to Hogwarts would probably not be a problem.

"Then I'll take you on a tour of Hogwarts. I know many interesting places there," Newt said nostalgically.

It was evident that Newt hadn't been very respectful of the rules during his school days. His reason for expulsion was the illegal possession of dangerous creatures, though it was to take the blame for his first love.

"Leave the object with me for now. The environment here is more suitable. Your case might suffocate it," Newt suggested.

August didn't object. People like Newt wouldn't have malicious intentions.

"But you'll probably have to wait a few days. I first have to report to the Ministry of Magic. You know why," Newt said.

Grindelwald's capture in America was a major event. A brief investigation would reveal Newt's significant role. How could the Ministry of Magic in London not summon him for questioning?

"Oh, and if you have nowhere to stay in London, you can stay at my place. I have many magical animals there; you'll like them," Newt offered.

"Thank you. I think it will be a very pleasant experience," August thanked him.
