A few days later, they both disembarked and took a train back to London.
"Come in!" Newt opened the door to his house. From the outside, it looked like an ordinary apartment, but how could a wizard's residence truly be ordinary?
Newt, somewhat impatiently, dropped his luggage on the floor: "Follow me!"
August, amused, followed him down the stairs from a compartment within the house. The upper floor was where Newt lived, while the space below the stairs was where he kept his magical creatures.
As soon as August stepped through the passageway door, he saw an enormous space below. His current location seemed more like a tower.
The stairs descended floor by floor. Looking down, various magical creatures could be seen enclosed on the lower level.
August looked at Newt, thinking that this man was also quite wealthy. Owning such a house in London, where land was expensive, and being able to feed so many magical creatures, required a considerable amount of money.
"Bunty!" Newt called from below, as if summoning someone.
Shortly after, a woman with messy brown hair came running, still wearing an apron and leather gloves, and she looked very happy.
"Allow me to introduce you, this is Bunty. She's been a great help looking after these creatures daily," Newt introduced his employee.
August politely shook her hand.
"Newt, you're back!" Bunty was somewhat excited. "I heard you caught Grindelwald!"
August and Newt exchanged glances. Indeed, the news had already spread.
"No, I only helped a little," Newt said very modestly. "Has everyone eaten yet?"
Whenever Newt took a long journey, his greatest concern was these magical creatures. As soon as he got home, he would ask about their physical condition.
Newt and Bunty were conversing there, while August wandered around.
At that moment, the doorbell rang. Newt always worked downstairs, so he had the doorbell connected to that area to alert him when visitors arrived.
"Looks like we have visitors. Who could it be?" Newt had just finished feeding a rather foolish Augurey. Hearing the doorbell, he wiped his hands and rushed up the stairs. "August, excuse me for a moment."
"Go ahead, Newt, maybe they have something for you." August didn't mind; at that moment, he was looking at the litter of Nifflers Newt kept.
They were magical creatures, similar to platypuses, but their flat, elongated snouts were much smaller, and Nifflers were tiny, with black eyes that shone with intelligence, making them very cute.
These small animals had a natural magical pouch in their belly, capable of holding countless objects. No one knew how much space a Niffler's pouch contained.
This pouch was to satisfy their peculiar hobby; "greed" perfectly described the expression these creatures showed when they saw shiny things.
"These little guys are very docile, but believe me, it's not a good idea to keep them at home." Bunty seemed to recall some unbearable past incidents. Seeing that August seemed very interested in these Nifflers, she kindly reminded him.
"Thanks, after seeing the one Newt carried with him, I'm quite clear on the troubles they can cause." August remembered what happened on the ship.
On the ship, Newt's Niffler had escaped more than once to steal from other cabins. That Niffler was a genius at escaping and hiding. Newt always had to exert a lot of effort to catch it, but seeing its innocent little eyes, he didn't dare to punish it, so he could only return the stolen items with a wry smile.
August didn't want to keep a Niffler; he was only interested in its magical pouch. This ability involved such a complex concept as space, and it would be fantastic to study it.
"August, let me introduce you, this is Theseus, my brother." Newt returned, followed by a man and a woman.
"Hello." Newt's brother, Theseus, looked very presentable. "Thank you for all you've done for the peace of the wizarding world."
August shook his hand.
"This is Leta, my brother's... fiancée." Newt's expression was slightly unnatural when introducing the other woman.
August knew that Leta was actually Newt's first love. He had seen a photo of Leta on a table inside Newt's display cabinet, so it was no surprise that Newt didn't seem very close to Theseus.
"We came this time, first, to visit Newt, and second, to invite both of you to the Ministry of Magic to explain the situation regarding Grindelwald," Theseus looked at Newt with a somewhat helpless expression.
He knew that Newt had no ill intentions toward him, but because of Leta, he didn't know how to get along with him. Moreover, his younger brother, Newt, had always been a somewhat solitary person, who liked to study his own interests alone at Hogwarts.
After Leta and Theseus parted ways with Newt, Newt seemed to become even more solitary, always with his suitcase in tow and wandering the world, researching creatures and avoiding people. The British wizarding world was so small that it was inevitable they would meet, and Newt felt completely uncomfortable when they did.
"Alright, I'm going." Newt agreed and then stepped aside, indicating that the two could leave.
Theseus's expression became even more helpless: "Newt, we're brothers."
"I still have things to do. I'll find you tomorrow." However, Newt seemed not to hear him, indicating he still had work to do.
Theseus failed to convince Newt, so he and Leta turned to leave. On the staircase, he looked back: "I'll wait for you at the Ministry of Magic tomorrow."
The two left, and Newt remained motionless, as if recalling the past. August didn't interrupt him.
It's not easy dealing with people from the Ministry of Magic. Newt had worked at the Ministry of Magic and knew how those wizarding officials attacked people who had connections with Dark Wizards.
These people had been made paranoid by Grindelwald; everything related to him, person or matter, had to be thoroughly investigated and understood.
August wasn't too worried. He was just a passerby in this world and had no dark past to dig up.
"Newt, since we have time, I have some questions I'd like to ask you." August had no other plans for the moment and thought of some spell knowledge he didn't understand. Newt, beside him, was a wizard skilled in spells, so it was a good opportunity to ask.
They had also exchanged ideas on the ship, and August benefited greatly. For example, he generally understood the principles of magic in this world.
Unlike August's world, where spells required mental power to manipulate magic and achieve various effects, spells here were completely different. They were more like programs; as long as wizards performed the necessary actions to activate them correctly, they could unleash the corresponding spells with their own magical power.
August came to these conclusions after studying a large number of books he had bought and conversing with Newt. The spells here were easy to cast, but August knew they would probably only be useful in this world.
Of course, understanding the principle roughly didn't mean August could cast spells at will. Many spells were very difficult, and it would be much easier if someone taught him.
Newt was very happy to help August with this. August wasn't involved in any spells explicitly forbidden by the wizarding world, so it wasn't difficult for him.
