In a white tracksuit with black stripes, Luke stepped out of the bus along with other candidates.
In front of them, huge metal doors separated them from the city-sized Battle Center A, where the 10-minute-long urban battles would be conducted as the Practical Exam.
However, the students from different schools eyed the huge door as much as they were eying Luke and Nyx, perched on his shoulder.
It wasn't just about the fact that Luke was tall and had a lean, but defined athletic build.
It was the quiet and distant expressions on his face, along with his obvious, foreign appearance.

Luke had been ignoring all comments, but the last sentence made him snap his head in one direction.
In a black, skin-tight, sleeveless shirt, Katsuki Bakugo held a disgusted look on his face.
When he saw Luke staring at him, he grinned, "What are you looking at, fanboy?"
Nyx stretched her wings, cursing under her breath. She had been eying the spiky-haired bastard for a while now.
"Not now, Nyx," Luke said, looking away. "Pro Heroes are watching…"

They all looked up and eyed a weirdly dressed woman cracking a whip, her figure surrounded by a distinct pink aroma.
Pro Hero — Midnight!
"Look at the new bunch!" she said, licking her lips. "I wonder if there are some outstanding ones among you…"
Her eyes suddenly landed on Luke, who could barely see her from the ground. She smiled.
Cracking her whip again, Midnight shouted, "What are you waiting for?! The exam has already started!"
The huge doors had opened soundlessly when students looked down again.
With a sense of urgency, everyone rushed inside. Why wouldn't they, when the next ten minutes would dictate their entire lives?

Luke calmly walked inside the Battle Center A, holding multistoried buildings and a labyrinth of roads and alleys.
From Present Mic's orientation, Luke knew the basic structure of the Practical Exam.
There were four faux Villains scattered around the city-sized Battle Center. And, if he remembered right, then they were robots.
Each robot held a point from 0 to 3.
The robot with 0 points was an obstacle that the candidates needed to avoid while destroying other robots to score as many points as they could.
It was a simple, game-like setup.
But, as of now, only Luke knew that there were Rescue Points as well. The judges, who were Pro Heroes and UA Staff, were watching all the candidates and would award Rescue Points to individuals who rescued other candidates.
So, to not stand out too much, Luke had decided to score average points from both destroying the robots and rescuing the candidates.
With Nyx by his side, he already possessed an advantage.
Already knowing that he would be needing significant power to deal with the robots, Luke had bestowed the same Quirk but a higher Complexity this time.
Nyx flew off Luke's shoulder, and he snapped his fingers.

It worked with Nyx because she held an enormous amount of Spirit Points, and she was very compatible with the Quirk and Luke.
A reflection passed over Nyx's black feathers, as if someone had shone a mirror at her from very far away.
In the next moment, Nyx enlarged, becoming a small bus-sized creature.
It wasn't just a simple ballooning up, either. Her mass increased proportionally, her strength matching her size.
Nyx's claws scraped on the road, ripping off its upper layer.
Her red eyes narrowed, her gaze scanning the most shadowy corners.
"I thought you would let out a roar… ?" Luke asked, approaching her.
"Oh, please. Leave the jokes to me," she said, letting him climb up on her back. "Also, roaring like that doesn't suit a lady like me…"
Luke rolled his eyes and tapped his palm on her.
"Hold tight," Nyx warned.
Nyx stretched her wings, then, with a powerful lunge, she took to the air, the road bursting apart behind her.

Judges' Room,
"You said he could make the bird as big as a man?" All Might asked, looking at Nezu.
Mr. Principal was himself gobsmacked. With so many wonderful quirks and interesting candidates to look at from the hundreds of screens, he hadn't thought that Luke would stand out.
Yet, here he was, looking at the massive bird claiming the Battle Center's skies for her own.
"Maybe he has been working on his Quirk?" Nezu guessed, a bit stunned. "You met him. What do you think?"
All Might looked at Midoriya, then at Luke, and knew one thing. "The boy is… serious."

Booms and bangs were reaching Luke's ears even up in the air, his blue eyes watering.
He took out swimming goggles from his pockets and put them on, regaining sight as wind blasted his hair up like there was a golden fire on his head.
Nyx made a circuit of the entire Battle Center and then suddenly dived.
On the ground, a boy was running away from a 1-Pointer who had come out from a corner suddenly.
Before the robot could land a blow on the boy, a black shadow fell upon it.
The boy, with a Bouncy Step Quirk, looked up and gasped.
The shadow on the robot became bigger and bigger, and, just as it loomed over the boy, Nyx's monstrous claws grabbed it.
With a powerful flap of her wings, causing a dust storm underneath her, she took the robot into the air as well.
When she reached the height of a building, she let the robot go.
The 1-Pointer fell from hundreds of feet and shattered on impact with a fiery explosion.
BOOM!
"Mongrels!" Nyx cried, making many candidates and robots look up. "Worship me! I am — The Empress of Darkness!"
Luke facepalmed, contending himself with Points for both destroying and rescuing.
On the ground, Bakugo finished another 2-Pointer and eyed the giant bird in the air, grinding his teeth.
Suddenly, a 3-Pointer blasted its way out of the building, sending many candidates flying.
Bakugo grinned as he rushed at it, sparks exploding from his palms. He could use the sweat on his palms as the fuel to cause explosions.
Simultaneously, Nyx fell upon the robot as large as her.
With a wide grin on his face, Bakugo put his palms on the back of the robot. "DIE!"
Nyx slammed her claws at the robot like black missiles, the power behind her blow sending the robot flying.
With a massive boom, the 3-Pointer exploded midair.
Luke slipped off Nyx's back and eyed Bakugo, who had gone half mad already.
"Stay… away…" Bakugo screamed through the teeth, charging at Luke, "… from… my Points!"
Bakugo pointed his right hand at Luke, his palm giving off black smoke.
Then, just as he was about to touch Luke's face, the world spun in Bakugo's eyes.
From running to finding himself lying face-first on the ground, it didn't even take a fraction of a second.
What — just happened?! Grinding his teeth and straining his neck, Bakugo looked over his shoulder.
Luke had his knee pressed into Bakugo's back. He was also holding the boy's wrists, stretching out his arms, making his palms face away.
"Don't be so hothead…" Luke said, holding back the rage within. "… kid."
