Bakugo squirmed in Luke's grip, tiny explosions going off in the palms of his hands.
However, no matter how much he tried to snatch his hands out of Luke's grip, he failed, the knee pressing into his back making matters worse.
I will blast you to pieces! Bakugo screamed within, preparing to let out a bigger blast.
Suddenly, his eyes landed on the spot where the 3-Pointer had been standing before the giant bird had lifted it away.
A girl was lying there, holding her leg.
Bakugo's eyes widened.
"You almost exploded the robot on top of her," Luke said, eying the same spot. There was anger boiling inside him, but he couldn't bring himself to take it out on a kid.
He knew this was the same Bakugo who had killed him and his family, but now another mystery was bothering him.
The blue, supermassive black hole…
The red, glowing eyes…
Had someone been controlling the Pro Hero in his previous life? Luke had asked himself this question a hundred times.
But it was one thing to control a Pro Hero of Bakugo's caliber, and it was an entirely different thing to make him kill the grandest secrets.
Whoever had killed him and Momo, and their unborn child, knew about the secret behind their marriage.
Of course, this would have been the case if Bakugo had indeed been under someone's control.
One thing was sure, though. He needed to watch the Pro Heroes and Villains of this world closely and… personally.
Luke twisted Bakugo's arms, making the boy let out a grunt in anger. Then, taking a deep breath, he let go.
Bakugo almost shot to his feet and grabbed Luke's collar.
"I WILL…" he hissed, grinding his teeth.
A shadow covered them suddenly.
Bakugo looked up and found two blobs of redness staring at him.
Nyx's humongous body towered above Bakugo, her claws scraping against the road. Like Luke, she was holding herself back. Unlike Luke, she wasn't very good at it.
Sensing extreme danger, Bakugo let go, the white tracksuit gaining black marks.
Almost simultaneously, they heard a siren.
5 minutes were over!
Glaring at Luke and Nyx, and glancing at the fallen girl that he almost injured gravely, Bakugo reluctantly ran away to get more points.
Luke then took the girl to a secured spot and went back to the sky, riding Nyx.
Boommmmmmmmmm! RUMBLE!!
The 0-Pointer had entered the stage!!!
From the high vantage point, Luke saw the behemoth crawling out of a domed building.
It was a massive robot, towering above multistory buildings. In this exam, it had only one purpose — to distract the candidates and fill them with panic!
Luke knew he had gained enough Points by destroying the one to three-pointers.
So, going with the plan, Nyx took him to the 0-Pointer to fill up the Rescue Points quota.
On the ground, the 0-Pointer lifted its massive fist and punched, creating a cloud of dust and a massive crater.
BOOM!
All the candidates ran in different directions.
Those who were unlucky enough to get caught in the explosion just lay there, stunned.
The robot lifted another arm, the red, glossy eye in the front of its massive head shining bloody.
Before it could punch, though, Nyx flew by across its vision like a black blur. The robot's fist paused midair before changing direction.
Nyx went around and robot, looking like a fly.
The 0-Pointer tried to grab her left and right, but she was just too fast.
Meanwhile, those who were too scared or had fallen during the first attack got the time to rush away to safety, helping each other.
Riding Nyx, Luke let out a smile. "Keep distracting it!" he screamed over the wind. "I guess we will have more than enough Points…"
The rest of his words were buried by a massive boom.
It felt like it had arrived from somewhere afar.
Nyx's red eyes widened to take in the distant scene. What she saw left her gobsmacked. Someone had punched… punched… the 0-Pointer in the face.
Now, it was breaking apart.
And I thought we were powerful… Nyx gulped. She shared what she saw with Luke, still flying around their 0-Pointer.
Pro Hero Deku… Luke remembered the name. He had barely interacted with the successor of One For All, but he did know that Deku was a good guy… and was a close friend of Bakugo…
Luke let out a shaky breath.
He didn't know who was good or bad anymore.
After a while, another siren marked the end of the Practical Exam.
As the 0-Pointer shut down, Luke's shoulder relaxed, his gaze landing on the distant horizon.
A different fate doesn't mean a better fate, he realized, sensing the turmoil within. If I want to unveil the evil mysteries of this world and find the real culprit, then I need to improve continuously…
For that to happen, he must join UA and take Momo's help.
…
A week later,
Saionji Mansion
In a dim room, with candles in four corners of a table, Luke and Aina sat opposite each other.
"So, how does this work?" Aina asked, smiling. "Do you just take one out at random?"
Luke's lips twitched. "OK, let me show you first. I will read the cards for myself, and then you follow my lead."
Aina nodded several times in a row.
Luke shuffled the cards and put them on the table.
"First, you clear your mind," he told her. "We need to draw out three cards, representing past, present, and future. You must guide your spirituality while drawing the cards out."
"Spirituality?" Aina asked.
Luke fell thoughtful. "So, let's say for the past, you concentrate your emotions, feelings, desires, and wishes surrounding an event that you feel was a turning point in your life.
"For the present, you focus on what's going on in your life now. For the future, you…"
"… focus on something that you really want to happen!" Aina said, jumping on her seat excitedly.
"Exactly," Luke replied with a nod. "OK. Let me draw them out."
One by one, guided by his spirituality, Luke drew out three cards and laid them on the table, Nyx eying both of them from the side.
He turned over the card representing the Past first.
"That's Death!" Aina said, shocked.
"Reverse Death for me," Luke corrected. "It means… Sigh! It means fear of change… clinging to something that's already over."
Aina felt puzzled. She had never heard Luke sound so — sad.
Shaking his head, Luke turned over the future card next.
It was an upright Wheel of Fortune.
"It means fate is spinning —," Luke read, narrowing his eyes, "but the direction is unknown. Or — a sudden change is coming…"
"Wow!" Aina giggled. "You sound like a… what they call them?"
"Seer…"
"Exactly!"
Luke reached for the present card.
Suddenly, they heard the knock on the door.
Luke left his chair and opened the door, and found Sand holding a letter in his hands.
He stared at the letter, his heart beating nervously. "Is that…"
As Luke looked up, he found Sand smiling.
"I will be seeing you at UA…" Sand said, giving him the letter.
Luke couldn't process Sand's meaning as emotions overwhelmed him.
Behind him, Aina shouted. "Hey! Come back! What does this card mean?! It looks so funny!"
Luke walked back inside the room, smiling at Nyx.
Then, he eyed the table, where Aina had already turned over the present card.
"It means—," Luke said, his smile widening as he stared at the upright Fool card, "—a new beginning."
