Chapter 10 - Chapter Ten: “The Phantom Conductor”

The wind howled as they crossed into the Ashen Interlude...a grey wasteland where music once danced through canyons now lost to decay. Crystal and her companions moved in silence, not out of fear, but reverence. For here, in this deadland, the echoes of unfinished songs wept into the soil.

The Fifth Seal lay beneath the ruins of the Grand Harmonic Hall, once a place where all melodies converged...where choirs from every realm once sang in unity.

But now?

Only dust... and something worse.

🎼🎼🎼

A violin string snapped in the distance.

Liora's threads tensed. "He's here."

Echo gripped her Mirror. "Something incomplete."

Thorn growled low. "Not a beast. Not a spirit. A conductor... with no audience."

The air thickened as they entered the remains of the Harmonic Hall. Rows of broken instruments lined the aisles. Discarded batons floated in shadow. Music sheets fluttered in windless air, forever repeating half-finished verses.

And at the center…

A figure.

Slender, tall, cloaked in tattered black with glowing hands made of ink and bone. His face was wrapped in silence, but his baton moved...not with rhythm, but rage.

The Phantom Conductor.

🎼🎼🎼

He turned slowly.

Then lifted his baton.

At once, the hall came to life.

But not with music.

With fragments.

Violins screeched in discordant agony. Pianos pounded out forgotten regrets. A thousand voices sang a thousand unfinished songs, clashing like broken waves in a storm.

Solstice roared, unleashing a flare of fire that dispersed the nearest shadows...but the soundless pressure remained.

The Phantom Conductor didn't speak.

He merely conducted.

His orchestra was pain.

🎼🎼🎼

Crystal tried to sing, but her voice was drowned in chaos.

Echo reached into the Mirror and mirrored the madness, bending one unfinished melody into something whole.

Liora leapt...her threads weaving patterns through the phantom notes, capturing fragments of harmony and throwing them back.

Thorn charged the stage, but the conductor waved...and spectral strings bound him midair, suspending him like a marionette.

That was when Crystal saw it...

A podium near the center… carved with Nocturne's sigil.

This wasn't just a conductor.

He was a rehearsal.

A test of Nocturne's final masterpiece.

🎼🎼🎼

Crystal forced herself into silence.

Then, within it, found the one true note.

A vibration so pure, it sliced through every discordant sound.

She sang it.

One clear note.

Echo followed with a harmonic thread.

Solstice added a pulse of radiant warmth.

Liora's threads conducted it across the air.

The unfinished songs...once twisted...aligned.

The Phantom Conductor froze.

For the first time in centuries… he listened.

And vanished...dissolving into a final, echoing rest.

🎼🎼🎼

They approached the shattered stage where the Fifth Seal flickered within a broken conductor's baton. As Crystal touched it, the air cleared. Music..real music...flowed through the hall once more.

But high above, in a spire of ink and silence…

Nocturne smiled.
