Chapter 72 - Explaining an inevitable complexity of Lyra

Adam grappled with how to explain Lyra to Emily. The concept of AI, let alone a robot, was likely foreign to her. The simplest explanation would be if Emily regained her past life memories, but that wasn't an option right now.

"So, if that's the case for Lyra," Emily asked, looking at Adam, "she's fallen in love with you? And she's hurt that you're with me?"

Lyra listened intently. "So, this is the human emotion called love?"

Adam took a deep breath. "Yes, Lyra, it may be that you've fallen in love with me. That would be the reason for the hurt you're feeling. I've already told you about the pain and hurt humans can go through." Lyra nodded, absorbing this new sensation.

"Emily, please try your best to understand," Adam continued. "Lyra isn't really human. She's an Artificial Intelligence. Think of her like an advanced golem in this world. She can learn and access knowledge from every book in history. She functions not like a human brain, but like a host of information all in one place."

Emily looked confused, trying to grasp the concept.

"But she's not just a book of information," Adam clarified. "She can talk and answer any question you ask, finding information in seconds. Lyra is very advanced, and she's connected to my mind."

Emily began to ask questions. "So, is she a part of you?"

"Not originally," Adam replied, "but due to circumstances, she was merged with my mind. After a while, she requested a body where she could fully operate on her own. That's what you see here." Adam gestured to Lyra's physical form. "She doesn't understand human emotions and feelings, which she's experiencing now in a human body."

"If you had your memory back," Adam explained, "it would be easier to comprehend because in our old world, AI was very normal and common knowledge. She doesn't have a basic concept of human decency, boundaries, principles, or ethics. Think of her like a child trying to understand emotion. However, her intelligence is far beyond human capabilities."

Emily began to grasp the situation, controlling her emotions. "But is she always in your mind?"

"Unfortunately, she is," Adam confirmed. "There's no way to separate it since she was merged with my mind to begin with. The body is just an extension controlled from my mind where she resides."

Emily's expression shifted; she felt their privacy was deeply invaded. "So, her body is just a shell? Even if the body is here or not, Lyra will be everywhere while we're in private?" Adam nodded.

Emily was surprised that such beings existed. She looked at Lyra differently now, not exactly like a human being. It was an inevitable involvement in their lives. She had to accept it one way or another.

Emily seems to be coming to terms with Lyra's unique existence and her unavoidable presence in their lives.
