In her state of confusion, Emily felt a nagging sense that something was amiss, a crucial piece of her identity missing. As she walked to school, her thoughts revolved around a person she was meant to remember, a warm feeling associated with a past self.
"Who was it?!" she wondered.
Then, she looked up and saw it: a Kirin standing in the sky, visible only to her. The creature felt strangely familiar, and it gestured for her to follow.
Emily, pushing through the crowd, ran deep into the city, trailing the Kirin until it stopped in front of a hospital. The Kirin gazed intently through a hospital window.
"Is someone waiting there?" Emily wondered, rushing inside, heading to the floor and ward the Kirin indicated.
Opening the door, she saw a boy in a coma. As she drew closer, she recognized him as Adam. Yet, she still couldn't recall who he was. She looked back at the window; the Kirin was looking directly at Adam. Emily stood there, bewildered. As she reached out and held Adam's hand, a surge of light engulfed the room.
A Reunion of Souls
Emily blinked, waking in a blinding white room. There was nothing around her. As she walked, she heard her name being called.
"Emily, please come back." She saw the same boy from the hospital bed, but this time, he was awake. Adam stood there, looking at her.
Adam, after the sharp ringing, had found himself in this same white expanse.
Suddenly, Emily appeared, and he stood frozen, unable to process it. Why was Emily here, in this dimension of pure whiteness? Where exactly was he? Yet, the sight of Emily, in her old body, brought tears to his eyes. He rushed forward and hugged her.
Emily, unsure who he was, instinctively accepted the embrace. In that moment, everything about Adam flashed back to her.
Tears streamed down her face as she remembered being in the old world, wishing for him to be happy with his family. She remembered the other world, where Adam had found her again and declared his love. She remembered it all: Adam was the one she had been looking for, the one she wanted to be with, from the old world to the other.
"Adam, I missed you," Emily whispered into his ear.
"I missed you too," Adam replied, neither wanting to let go.
"I'm sorry for not realizing the love you had for me before," Adam said, his voice thick with emotion. "I love you so much, Emily."
Emily's tears continued to fall. "I have always loved you, my Adam."
Back to Reality
Both of them awakened in the hospital. Emily lay on Adam, who was also awake, though unable to move freely due to his body being weaken from coma.
Tears welled in Adam's eyes as he looked at Emily. "I love you."
Emily, holding his hand, replied, "I love you too."
She leaned over and kissed him, their tears merging as one. Emily looked at the window; the Kirin was gone.
Nurses and doctors rushed in, shocked to find Adam awake from his coma. Nurses ask Emily if she is the one that always attend to Adam during coma. Emily deny it however she informed them that Adam was her fiancé and that her family would be coming to fetch him soon.
She called her parents, who quickly arrived. Upon seeing Adam, Emily's parents' memories returned, recalling who Adam was and how Emily had truly returned to their world. The mental fog that had clouded all their minds had finally cleared.
This time, Adam was returning to the old world, after having been in a coma.
Adam's consciousness has inexplicably returned to his original body in the old world, and Emily has regained all her memories.
