Chapter 7 Just Ten Million, What Can That Do

When Li Weiguo and Li Weidong crossed over illegally, they hadn't brought anything with them, so naturally, they had no luggage to pack now.

At this moment, they were still wearing the uniforms of Huafeng Cement Factory.

Back in his office at the factory building, Lin Haoran told Li Weiguo and Li Weidong to wait outside while he went inside to pack.

In truth, there wasn't much to pack; he hadn't brought many belongings here to begin with.

After stuffing a few sets of clothes into his suitcase, Lin Haoran also brought along Huafeng Cement Factory's business registration certificate and the land title deed for the property the factory sat on.

Huafeng Cement Factory had been established more than ten years ago. At that time, land in Yuen Long wasn't worth much. When Lin Wanan built the factory here, he had also purchased over 30,000 square meters of surrounding land at a very low price.

Now, just that plot of land alone was worth more than seven million Hong Kong dollars.

Lin Haoran had already thought of a way to raise startup funds—he would mortgage Huafeng Cement Factory.

Of course, he had no intention of selling it, as it was crucial for his competition against his elder brother Lin Haoning.

However, using it as collateral to quickly gather the capital he needed for his next plan was perfectly feasible.

Once he finished packing, Lin Haoran stepped outside.

Li Weiguo promptly helped him carry the luggage.

Lin Haoran's car was a Mercedes-Benz W116 series sedan—unsurprising, given his status as the son of a wealthy family.

Thanks to the merged memories, he had a deep understanding of Hong Kong in this era.

The drive from Huafeng Cement Factory back to Kowloon City required heading south through Tuen Mun, then taking the Tuen Mun Highway, leading straight to the city.

Previously, Lin Yi would drive while Lin Haoran sat in the back.

But since Li Weiguo and Li Weidong didn't know how to drive yet, Lin Haoran had to drive himself this time.

The road system back then wasn't as complex as it would become in later years, especially in remote areas like Yuen Long, where there was usually just one main road and clear signage at intersections. Lin Haoran wasn't worried about getting lost.

After securing the luggage, Li Weiguo and Li Weidong looked around the car with excitement and curiosity.

"Young Master, we've never ridden in a private car before. Back home, we only took buses and cargo trucks. These seats are so comfortable," Li Weidong said, glancing around and marveling.

"Buckle up. The Young Master's taking you to see the real world," Lin Haoran laughed.

"Young Master, what's a seatbelt?"

"It's that strap next to your seat. It protects passengers by securing them in place."

Even with the memories of two lifetimes, Lin Haoran found himself fascinated by driving this vintage car.

The car's radio was playing some popular Cantonese songs of the time.

Along the way, they encountered a few border patrol checkpoints, but once Lin Haoran presented his identity, they were waved through without issue.

After more than two hours, the car finally entered the suburbs of Tsuen Wan, where buildings became increasingly dense.

By this time, Tsuen Wan had already developed significantly.

Especially after the completion of the Kwai Chung Container Terminal, the area had become a hotspot for Hong Kong's businessmen to invest.

"So many tall buildings!"

"So bustling!"

"That woman's so shameless, her clothes barely cover anything—half her body's exposed!"

"Brother Weiguo, look over here too. I'm drooling just looking at them!"

After reaching Tsuen Wan, seeing the bustling streets and all the new sights, the two brothers were endlessly excited and talked non-stop, full of curiosity and amazement.

"This is still just the outskirts," Lin Haoran said with a smile.

Because Tsuen Wan housed many logistics warehouses and docks, the area was full of large trucks.

Thus, upon entering Tsuen Wan, traffic became heavy and the car moved slowly.

"If this is the suburbs, I can't imagine how prosperous the city center must be," Li Weiguo sighed.

Seeing the congestion ahead, Lin Haoran decided to exit the main road at the next intersection.

It was already 1 PM, and it was time to find somewhere to eat.

They found a random restaurant and had lunch before Lin Haoran started driving again.

First, he went into Kowloon City, where he took Li Weidong and Li Weiguo to an immigration office to fill out paperwork and successfully obtained Hong Kong ID cards for them.

After Li Weiguo's easy defeat of Lin Yi, Lin Haoran valued them more highly than ever.

"From today on, you're officially citizens of Hong Kong. No one will be able to chase you down anymore," Lin Haoran said, smiling as they stood outside the immigration office.

"Thank you, Boss," the two brothers said excitedly.

Nearby, Lin Haoran bought them three sets of suits from a tailor shop and had them change into one immediately.

He also took them to a nearby barber shop for a close-cropped haircut.

As the saying goes, clothes make the man.

With their new suits, ties, and haircuts, the brothers' entire demeanor changed.

Putting on sunglasses, they now carried the imposing air of gangland bosses.

Since they were now Lin Haoran's bodyguards, they couldn't be allowed to continue wearing cement factory uniforms—it would be laughable.

In the business world, image was important.

At this moment, Lin Haoran noticed their loyalty levels had increased again.

Li Weiguo: [Loyalty: 87/100]

Li Weidong: [Loyalty: 90/100]

Li Weiguo's loyalty had risen by 3 points.

Especially Li Weidong—even though his increase was only 1 point this time, he had crossed into the 90s.

Loyalty was always better the higher it got.

At this level, Lin Haoran had little to worry about regarding betrayal.

After fulfilling the brothers' greatest wish, Lin Haoran wasted no time and headed directly to the Admiralty Centre in Wan Chai, Hong Kong Island.

Given his identity as the youngest son of Wanan Group's chairman, it was extremely easy for him to get a loan in Hong Kong.

However, he didn't just want a simple loan of a few million.

If he went to proper big banks like Huifeng Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, or Hang Seng Bank, they would surely be cautious and wouldn't lend him too much to minimize their risks.

Even with Huafeng Cement Factory as collateral, the most he could borrow from them would be one or two million HKD.

But Lin Haoran wasn't satisfied with that.

What could he possibly achieve with just that little money?

The elevator stopped at the 17th floor of Admiralty Centre, and Lin Haoran, accompanied by his two bodyguards, stood outside a glass office door.

On the left side of the door hung a plaque that read: Hong Kong Malay Yumin Finance Company.

This was Lin Haoran's real destination today.

Currently, the Hong Kong government was vigorously promoting the city's development into an international financial center.

Earlier in March, they had relaxed banking license regulations.

Over the past few months, more than twenty banking licenses had been issued in one go.

With the rapid increase in the number of banks and financial institutions, competition in the banking sector had intensified sharply.

In modern terms, Hong Kong's banking industry was now extremely cutthroat.

To what extent?

To the point that even financial institutions sitting on huge cash reserves struggled to lend out their funds effectively.
