Chapter 4 - The Final Interview

[ Monday ]

The last interview in Seungho's 6 month long search for an opportunity as a reporter, the day was upon Seungho and he was ready to give it his all this time around.

6 months ago, Seungho had first moved to an unknown city from Busan, seeing his lifelong friends for the first time after 6 years. It was all they had prepared for, now if he couldn't get this job then it all would've been for nothing.

Seungho was on the bus on his way to the interview site, the sun was out as usual, summer in Korea was grueling and the smell of sweat overwhelmed Seungho's nose. Seungho standing on the bus recalled the news station which he was going to; this news station was called HBS, hongdae broadcasting station, the lowest rated station in all of Seoul and they still somehow stay in business.

Meanwhile, at the news station, three people sat side, side by side, at a round glass table in a small meeting room.

"You have to see this, manager" The man on the left lounged in his seat reclined all the way, was laughing at something on his phone titling to the senior sitting in the middle chair.

"Hey Jisuk, why don't you sit properly, what if an applicant walks in right now" The manager said while trying to ignore what was on the phone.

"Manager, we need to hire this guy, just look at him" Jisuk sat up from laughing.

"What is this?" The manager grabs the phone with a clip from Seungho's livestream, stitched together showing him reporting one second and beating up the thugs in the other.

"HAHAHA, if we could get this guy, we would be first in the ratings" The manager laughed alongside Jisuk, while the lady on the right most seat, was looking visibly frustrated.

"I know right," Jisuk agreed.

"Hey manager, can't you be a little more serious about this, we haven't had anyone come by in the last hour and you're laughing. We might actually go under this year, and you're—" The lady exploded at the two gossiping about the clip, when she was interrupted by a knock on the glass door.

Seungho stood at the half open door, when the lady coughs embarrassed and tells him to take a seat.

"Please take a seat, I'm Ha Nari, this is manager Kim and our other hiring manager, Park Jisuk—" Nari stood up to shake his hand, while the manager and Jisuk were gossiping on the side.

"Manager Kim, isn't he the guy we were just laughing about" Jisuk whispered to Manager Kim.

"It seems luck is finally on our side" Manager Kim smiled with his arms crossed.

A few questions later, Nari asks "Do you any experience doing this kind of work, like reporting or researching"

"Yes, I do" Seungho pulls out his phone to show them the video of his reporting like it was some medal of honor but before he could pull it up.

"It's alright, we've already seen it" Manager Kim waves it off, "We think you will be a good fit for HBS and if no one else has any objection, then you are hired"

"I am with Manager Kim" Jisuk agrees while nodding his head.

"You can't just do that, Manager Kim, our ratings are at an all time low and now this…we can't take this risk" Nari stands from her seat turning to Manager Kim. "We need someone experienced to turn this around"

"If it's 2 out of 3, you are hired" Manager Kim declares, still sitting cross-armed facing Seungho and ignoring Nari's concern.

"Manager Kim, this is—" Ha Nari tries to reason with Manager Kim, when Jisuk waves off Seungho signalling that he is free to go.

Seungho walks out from the interview, loosens his tie and murmurs to himself, it's finally time to get started. A storm was brewing in Seoul, the grey clouds were out in full force and it started to rain as Seungho managed to catch the bus.

When Seungho finally gets home, the lights were off and Seungho thought nothing of it, most of his roommates were ones to work overtime. When Seungho flicked on the kitchen lights, three of them jumped out from the dark.

"What are you guys doing here, Minho and Dohyun?" Seungho was surprised as they were always working.

"What? I can't even be in my own home" Minho questioned with his arms crossed in front of the dinner table where a little cake sat.

"Hey, let's cut this cake already, I'm starving," Dohyun says.

"Yeah, let's do that and guess what?" Taesik agrees while holding two bottles of soju with a fat smile on his face.

A few hours pass of them smashing their faces with booze.

"Hey, we are finally where we promised 6 years ago, Huh?" Minho says

"Bastard, it's just getting started and you are already reminiscing" Taesik slaps his head

"Hey, there isn't a day I don't think back to what happened then" Minho clutches his glass, tightening his fist.

"Yea…" Dohyun mumbles under his breath drowsily.
