Chapter 2 - Two

Chapter Two: Not so bad, is it?

Funny enough, she didn't even have much work to do. In fact, she was kind of overlooked today—though not without a stern warning to never show up late again.

"It's not like it's going to happen again," she scoffed inwardly, arranging the patients' files in neat, almost military order.

The day wasn't so bad after all. Everyone had been friendly, and she felt like she could actually fit in—well, except for one particular thorn: Ms. Roy. That woman kept staring at her like she was an unexpected test result.

"What's her deal?" she sighed, rolling her eyes and getting back to her task.

She didn't usually let people like that get under her skin, but something about Ms. Roy was just... annoying. Still, she knew if she was going to survive in this place, she had to play it cool.

What she was doing now was fun. She liked at she was given an actual task today after everything. She was humming quietly as the arranged the files neatly and of course, perfectly. She was so focused on what she was doing that she didn't notice or hear anyone call her.

"Ms Hubble?" She was startled as she flinched.

"Who in the world is this to scare me like this?" She thought annoyed by this person.

"Did I scare you? My sincere apologies, Ms Hubble" the man said politely and formally.

"Why's he so formal with me? And how in the world did everyone know my name?!" She screamed inwardly but smiled instead.

"Oh, it's okay. I was just so focused here and it happened " she was trying her best to not sound too casual.

"It's a good thing. It seems like you live what you're doing and that admirable" he smiled at her showing his dimples.

"Okay. He has dimples" she smiled back.

She was waiting for this man to introduce himself but nothing was coming.

Silence. Silence. Silence.

"What is your name?" She asked herself. Since the man seemed to have no plans of introducing himself.

"Oh my apologies. My name Matthew. Matthew Joseph."

What was happening? Was he so formal with everyone too? Daisy wanted to laugh because why say 'my apologies ' when you can just say simple sorry. Mehhh that's him.

"Nice to meet you, Mr Joseph. Seems like you already know my name even if I don't know how" she added the last part on purpose.

"Well, Ms Roy made you popular. Everyone in your department knows your name. I just passed by and heard so I came to see you myself" he explain.

"Oh Ms Roy" she smiled awkwardly. That woman was acting rather funny.

Daisy and Mr. Joseph talked for a while as he helped her arrange the patient files. He spoke warmly about the hospital—its different departments, the staff, even a bit of its history. Somewhere between lifting a folder and placing it in the right cabinet, he promised to show her around properly sometime soon.

Mr. Joseph was... easy on the eyes. With neatly styled brown hair and striking bright brown eyes, he had a calm confidence about him. He stood tall, maybe 6'2, and that British accent? Crisp and charming. He mentioned he was originally from England, and the way he spoke made it hard not to listen—even when he was just talking about hospital protocols.

"So now you know a bit about the fellow staffs here" He said as he handed her the last file.

"Yes, thanks to you" she smiled and put the file where it's supposed to be.

Mr Joseph talked to her for a bit before leaving since he was about to get busy.

"I'll be alright"

"I'll be alright"

"I'll be alright"

She kept telling herself as the walked outside for fresh air (not really).

She was nervous but was good at hiding it but she new what she felt inside.

She stared at the blue sky and took deep breaths. It felt nice. She was relived as always.

They're things she never plays with in her life; music, the sky and confidence. She's always been very confident because she didn't want to be bullied back then at school and she kinda got used to it. It helps her though.

She loved that about her and she was grateful to a Tiktoker that talked about confidence on one of her videos that she came across years ago. Classic.

Her phone vibrated, bringing her back to the present.

"Hey pookie" the caller talked first "how's your day going?"

"Hmm... I'd say it's going alright..." She spoke softly.

"Hey is something wrong?" Now the caller was worried.

"Izzy, I'm just nervous " she spoke, almost whispering.

"Oh D, I get you. I was nervous on my first day of work too but I wasn't late though " she joked hoping to lift Daisy's mood.

She chuckled lightly. "You know that wasn't on purpose"

"Yes, I know. Jokes apart baby, you'll be fine. I trust you just as you trusted me then too" Izzy wasn't good at saying sweet words but she'd try her best for her best friend for sure. "Don't worry I'll buy you dinner tomorrow night. Got a date tonight"

"A what now?!" Daisy wasn't surprised. And she was surprised how she wasn't surprised. Izzy had dates almost four times every week with different men and she still hasn't found the one she liked yet.

Another reason why she kept going on this dates was to "confirm if all men are the same" and till then, she still hadn't found any difference.

"Okay. Goodluck. Don't get drunk tonight, okay?" Daisy knew her friend didn't get drunk easily but well, she liked telling her not to because the last time she got drunk many months ago, it was a total disaster.

"Okay mum. Fighting!" She said and ended the call.

Seemed like the call with her best friend took her worries away.

She felt recharged and ready for better work days ahead.

"I'm taking mom's advice this time".

She murmured as she walked back in...
