Chapter 7 - Chapter 6: The Punishment

After I left that place, I went to recover in the school's public park. Luckily, there was no one around at that time. I sat down on a wooden bench and used light element magic, or "Heal," to stop the bleeding from my wounds.

Anyone can use healing magic, but mastering its quality is very difficult. For example, all I could do was stop the bleeding; the wounds themselves didn't fully recover.

Once I was confident the bleeding had stopped, I used water magic to soak my handkerchief, which I had taken out, and used it to wipe the bloodstains from the wounds. After wiping them clean, I took out the remaining wild herbs from my bag, crushed them into a fine powder, and applied it to the wounds. When that was done, I finished by tying the handkerchief around them as a bandage.

It was a rather crude treatment, but it was enough to help the wounds heal to a certain degree. The real problem was my blood-stained clothes. What should I do...

If I walk into the library looking like this, will the guards kick me out?

I weighed my options for a moment before deciding to tear off the part of my sleeve that was stained with blood. If I went in looking like that, it would definitely become big news.

I brought myself to the library in the Inventor's Building and returned the book I had previously borrowed. Then, I found another book that interested me and sat down to read it right there. After about an hour or so had passed, three students from the magic division suddenly walked up to me.

"Seyfirus Alan Hylm... the teachers and the student council have summoned you. Please come with us."

I shifted my gaze to the three students and saw that they each had a red band wrapped around their arms. Seeing that, I knew immediately that they were members of the student council.

I let out a weary sigh before standing up. As I rose, the three students took a slight step back in fear.

"Lead the way..." I replied to them in a flat tone. The man who had spoken to me had a look of apprehension on his face.

"U-Understood." The man nodded and began to lead the way out, and I followed him, under the quiet gazes of the inventor-track students who were watching the event unfold.

.....................

I was brought to a large meeting hall in the Magic Building. Inside the room were various teachers, as well as members of the student council.

It seemed they were discussing the punishment I was about to receive. I didn't object or argue; I just nodded and accepted all the charges they listed without making any excuses.

The charge I received was for assaulting a student and causing near-fatal injuries. The punishment was two weeks of confinement in the school dormitory, a ban from using the magic training grounds, and I was also forced to wear a sealing bracelet that would prevent me from using any magic for the entire two weeks.

The punishment was quite severe, but even so, I nodded and accepted all the accusations. Shortly after, a student council member came over and fastened the bracelet onto my wrist.

I stared at the bracelet on my hand with a sense of frustration. From this day forward, I wouldn't be able to use magic for two weeks. Although I was annoyed, the fault was my own for being too careless. So, I chose to accept it. I then asked the council if I would be able to go outside the school to buy things.

Upon hearing this, the student council told me that I was strictly forbidden from leaving the school grounds under any circumstances. However, I was allowed to walk around the school, but for no longer than three hours at a time (not including class time). If I exceeded the time limit, the bracelet I was wearing would use teleportation magic to send me back to my room. And if I tried to violate this rule more than three times, the council would increase my punishment.

Hearing that, I could only grit my teeth in frustration but accepted their terms. This was no different from being locked up in prison... Sigh. But at least it wasn't expulsion.

I heard that the two students who cast magic on me were also punished, and even more severely than I was. I had no idea what they got, but they deserved it. To cast magic in the middle of a crowd like that... The rules of this school are quite strict, it seems.

Not long after, I was escorted to my room.

Normally, students live in their own dorms, but the original Alan preferred to go out and have fun outside. So, he used his family's money to buy a mansion in the city as his residence instead. In any case, there was no rule against students living outside the school, so they didn't say anything, as many wealthy students also bought houses in the city.

I threw myself onto the bed, exhausted.

Confined for two weeks and unable to use magic on top of that. How could I be this unlucky? Now, what am I going to do about charging the magic crystals?

Should I ask Cretan for help... No. By now, the news of the trouble I caused has probably spread throughout the school. The number of students who dislike me will only increase. If I let him get involved, he'll get dragged into it for no reason. Sigh... Even though I have my own problems, I'm still busy thinking about others.

Well, it can't be helped... they're characters I like, after all.

Fwip.

I sat up in bed and took the magic gauntlet out of my magic bag.

Just sitting around feeling dejected won't help anything. At the very least, I need to repair this gauntlet first.

After that, I began to repair the gauntlet, replacing the broken power-processing crystal with a new one. The process took quite a long time, plus I took the opportunity to slightly resize the gauntlet, as I thought it was currently too big.

I spent several hours fixing the gauntlet. Once it was done, I went down to have dinner at the bottom floor of the dorm. While I was eating, I wrote a letter to be sent to my mansion to inform Irene that I was currently being punished and would have to live at the school for two weeks. In this world, there are no telephones, so communication relies on sending letters. Although there are communication magic stones, they are far too expensive, and the original Alan probably wasn't interested in such things, so he never thought to buy one.

After I finished everything, I found that I still had about two hours left. At that moment, I decided to head to the weapon training grounds instead. Even though I was banned from the magic training grounds, that didn't apply to the weapon training grounds. That's right. Even without magic, training is something that must be done consistently. I had to keep that simple fact firmly in my mind.

But even so... I just hoped that when I got there, another headache-inducing incident wouldn't occur.

Even though I knew that thought was probably an impossible wish.
