Chapter 20 - the horror horror nigth

Scene: Mateo's Corpse and Martin's New Identity

The camera slowly pans across a dimly lit study room. On the wall hangs a photo of Mateo — his face twisted in horror, a noose around his neck, his body frozen in death. No one speaks. Just silence.

In another room, Martin — now under the alias Eduardo — lifts a wine glass. He drinks blood slowly, calmly, eyes half-closed. He doesn't say a word. A faint smirk curves at the edge of his lips.

Scene: Eduardo's Book Launch, Mexico City

A luxurious hall filled with writers, intellectuals, and young creatives.

MARTIN (as EDUARDO, at the podium):

"Dear guests and friends, thank you for coming. My name is Eduardo, and today I present to you a collection of my finest thoughts—philosophy, psychology, morality, fear, pain... books that may shape the way we think about humanity."

Crowd: [Applause]

EDUARDO:

"Let us drink tonight to ideas, to curiosity, and to freedom of thought. Thank you."

As people cheer, clink glasses, and gather in conversation, a figure stands silently near the back: Marco.

Scene: Marco's Trap

After the party, Marco stays behind. His friends leave with a wave.

FRIEND: "You sure you don't want us to wait?"

MARCO: "Nah, I just wanna ask Eduardo a few questions about his farm. Nothing serious. See you tomorrow."

Marco waits, gripping a small knife hidden in his coat.

Martin walks along the bookshelf, pretending to organize books.

MARTIN (without turning):

"Well, Mr. Marco... do you need something?"

MARCO:

"Not much. Just a quick question about your farm. Might be interested in investing in one myself."

MARTIN (smiling):

"A man of land and dirt, eh? I wouldn't have guessed. Let me grab a book for you."

Martin exits toward the far end of the room. Behind the scenes, he prepares an injection.

Marco, sensing opportunity, slowly unsheathes his knife, tiptoes around the edge of the massive library. Silence.

Suddenly, THSSST!

A sharp sting on Marco's neck. Martin emerges from the shadow. The injection hits. Marco collapses.

Scene: The Interrogation

Marco wakes. His body is tied to an electric chair, his mouth gagged, arms fixed.

Martin stands over him, now completely cold and detached.

MARTIN:

"Well, Marco. Agent Marco, right? High-ranking government, sent to assassinate a harmless writer?"

Marco struggles. Eyes wide.

MARTIN:

"Lie detector already says that was false. But I don't need tech to know when someone lies."

Martin pulls out a scalpel and slices off one of Marco's fingers. Blood spatters. Marco tries to scream, but the gag prevents anything clear.

MARTIN:

"Oh, don't worry. I said I wouldn't touch your throat. And I won't... for now."

He leans in.

MARTIN:

"Just tell me one thing: Did Evelyn send you?"

Marco's entire body flinches.

MARTIN:

"That's all I needed."

Marco nods, pleads with his eyes.

MARTIN:

"You want mercy?"

Marco nods.

MARTIN:

"Of course. Everyone begs at the end. But I don't believe in mercy."

He walks to a large lever.

MARTIN:

"Electric chair. Custom design. Can simulate lightning. Burns skin from the inside."

Martin flicks the first level.

Marco convulses violently. Eyes roll. Veins pulse.

Martin smiles faintly. Increases the level.

Marco shakes uncontrollably. His body jerks. His nose bleeds. His hands twitch.

MARTIN:

"Not enough. Let's try maximum."

He pushes the dial to full.

The machine releases a deafening zap. Marco's body seizes. His skull cracks open.

POP.

Blood and brain matter splatter across the room. Martin's face is painted in red.

He tastes a drop.

MARTIN:

"Boiled blood. Awful."
