I watch Scarlett kneel on my Persian rug, her perfect composure finally shattered. The woman who built her reputation on making powerful men beg is now speechless, staring up at me with those wide green eyes that once dismissed me so easily.
The moment tastes better than I imagined.
"You should see your face," I say, walking back to my desk. "Though I suppose you can't. The mirrors in here are behind you now."
She tries to speak but only manages a strangled whisper. "How long have you known I worked here?"
"Since the day I bought this company." I settle into my chair, the leather creaking softly. "Six months of watching you climb higher. Six months of you having no idea who really owned your ambition."
Her hands tremble as she finally manages to stand. The confident power walk is gone. Now she moves like someone walking through a minefield.
"The acquisition paperwork..."
