I snapped awake as if breaking through the surface of water, gasping for air. The trance that had clouded my mind moments ago shattered like glass, leaving only crystal clarity and burning rage in its place.
His hand was still on my thigh, the cool touch of his fingers seeping through the thin fabric of my dress. His face hovered above mine, those blood-red eyes gleaming with triumph, as if he'd already claimed victory.
"Get away from me." I shoved against his chest with all my strength, catching him off guard. He stumbled back, surprise flashing across his perfect features before hardening into something cold and dangerous.
I scrambled off the bed, chains rattling as I put distance between us. My back hit the wall, but I refused to cower. Even without my powers, I wasn't going to make this easy for him.
